Description

IMPROVED RESPIRATORY PROTECTIVE DEVICE k k: k: k: k: k:
The present invention relates to an improved respiratory protective device.
More in particular, the present invention relates to a device of the mask type (e.g., of the surgical type or the like) having the function of protecting the airways of the individual, such as the mouth and nose, from the inhalation of dangerous substances present in the air such as particles, dust, bacteria or pollen.
Such devices have the function of preventing the individual wearing them from contact and, therefore, an inhalation of more or less coarse secretions and/or splashes caused by sneezes or coughs of other individuals (considering the fact that the particles emitted with coughs or sneezes are rich in bacteria which can cause the transmission of diseases such as colds, influenza or other more or less complex and dangerous diseases of the airways).
Furthermore, the same protection devices can be worn by an individual suffering from respiratory diseases (such as colds, coughs and the like) in order to prevent the spread of bacteria to other individuals which may be emitted by coughs or sneezes, or the like, and which may result in undesirable infections.
Respiratory protection devices, and more specifically masks, are applied to the face to cover the entire nose and mouth and can also cover the chin.
A typical type of mask is that of a medical or surgical type which is defined by a mask which is generally, but not exclusively, disposable, typically made of a multi-layer non- woven fabric comprising a filtering external layer, a central layer impermeable to liquids and an internal layer of hypoallergenic type in contact with the skin of the individual, with such a type of mask functional to a filtering of emissions from the interior toward the exterior. Such types of surgical masks can also be made of fabric, so that they can be reused several times.
Other known types of masks are those characterized by greater filtering capacities from the exterior to the interior and are classified (depending on the filtering capacity) as FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3 (Filtering Face Piece) according to European regulations; such masks are made of multi-layer non-woven fabric with layers with different filtering capacities.
However, the types of masks described above have a significant drawback related to the fact that they must be removed from the face if the individual wearing them is drinking or smoking, with such actions often carried out in outdoor environments in which the airways can be greater exposed to the problems reported above.
A further disadvantage of the traditional masks, a consequence of the disadvantage described above, is that a repeated slippage of the mask from the face tends to cause a rapid wear of the mask or even a breakage of the same.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks described above.
More in particular, the object of the present invention is to provide a respiratory protection device, defined by a mask of the type for medical or surgical use or of other types with greater filtering capacities, adapted to allow the individual wearing it to drink from a bottle or a glass or the like or to smoke (a cigarette, cigar, pipe or an electronic cigarette) without the need to remove the mask from the face.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a respiratory protection device which preserves the functionality of the mask when it is not used for the functions set forth above.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a respiratory protection device of the mask type which is simple and easy to use.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a mask which can be easily washed, disinfected and, likewise sterilized if of the reusable type.
A further object of the present invention is to provide users with a respiratory protection device of the mask type adapted to ensure high resistance and durability over time and such as to be easily and economically made.
These and other objects are achieved by the invention having the features according to claim 1.
According to the invention, an improved respiratory protective device is provided defining a mask to be applied to the face of the individual to protect the mouth, nose and possibly the chin which comprises a thin, flexible and soft or pre-shaped body with a rounded shape to adapt to the shape of the face and which, at opposite lateral edges, comprises straps suitable to allow the mask to be coupled to the ears or to the nape of the individual wearing the mask, said body comprising a mouthpiece suitable for the introduction of a straw, cannula or cigarette or the like.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention appear from the dependent claims.
The constructive and functional features of the improved respiratory protective device of the mask type of the present invention can be better understood from the following detailed description in which reference is made to an embodiment thereof, given for exemplary and non-limiting purposes only, and in which: figure 1 schematically depicts a front view of the respiratory protection device of the medical or surgical mask type and, in particular, depicts a front view of the external front opposite the internal one in contact with the face of the individual; figure 2 depicts an enlarged detail of the device of the invention according to figure 1; figure 3 schematically depicts a partial cross-sectional view of the device of the invention and, in particular, a view of the internal front of the mask of the device.
With reference to the aforementioned figures, the improved respiratory protective device of the present invention is defined by a mask (indicated overall with 10) which, in the preferred embodiment referred to in the figures, is of a medical or surgical type, comprises a body 12 of thin, flexible and soft thickness to adapt to the shape of the face at the chin, mouth and nose areas; it is to be understood that what is described below also applies to a type of mask other than the surgical one (of simple type), i.e., also for masks classified as FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3 which tend to have a convex shape which adapts to the shape of the face.
The body 12, at opposite lateral edges 13, comprises straps 14 (elastic or non-elastic) suitable to allow the mask to be coupled to the ears or to the nape of the individual wearing the mask.
An accessory defined by a mouthpiece 16 is applied to the body 12 which comprises a first portion 16' or external portion with respect to an external front 12' of the body 12 and a second portion 16'' or internal portion with an internal front 12'' of the same body 12 coaxial with said first portion 16', with said internal front 12'' facing the direction of the face of the individual wearing the mask.
The first portion or external portion 16' comprises a centrally hollow tubular element 18.
The second portion or internal portion 16'' is also of the tubular and hollow type.
The mouthpiece 16 comprises a membrane or septum 20 placed in separation between said first 16' and second 16'' portion, made of soft and flexible material of the silicone, rubber or similar type which allows to put the exterior of the mask in communication with the interior thereof for the function which will be better described below.
In the preferred embodiment of the figures, the membrane or septum 20 is of the segment type, i.e., provided with a plurality of flexible elements or segments 20' (three or more flexible elements or segments) which deform to accommodate objects with different diameters or shapes (of the drinking straw, cigarette, pipe mouthpiece or electronic cigarette type or the like) as better detailed below.
According to an alternative embodiment, the membrane or septum 20 can comprise a funnel element (with a taper facing the direction of the internal front 12'' of the mask (thus in the direction of the face of the user wearing the mask)) made of an elastic and flexible material so as to be able to accommodate objects with different diameters or shapes (such as a drinking straw, cigarette, pipe mouthpiece or electronic cigarette or the like) as described above.
The first portion or external portion 16' and the second portion or internal portion 16'' and the membrane or septum 20 are made in a single body.
According to an alternative embodiment, the first portion or external portion 16', the second portion or internal portion 16'' and the membrane or septum 20 are independent and interchangeable parts; this in order to allow a replacement, for example, of the second portion or internal portion 16'' with a second portion or internal portion 16'' having a different extension in length (longer or shorter as a function of specific needs) or to allow a replacement of individual parts in case of wear or tear, this is particularly advantageous in the case of reusable-type protection devices (for example, in the case of washable masks).
According to a further embodiment, the membrane or septum 20 can be made in a single body with the first portion or external portion 16' or with the second portion or internal portion 16''.
The first portion or external portion 16' of the mouthpiece 16 comprises a closure element 22 integral with the tubular element 18 and adapted to open or close the mouthpiece 16.
Said closure element 22 is defined by a cap which, in the preferred embodiment referred to in the figures, is of the flip-top type (openable as indicated by the arrow K in figure 3) or, alternatively, a cap of the screw or pressure type coupled/integral with the tubular element 18 (typically known as "tethered cap").
In accordance with an alternative embodiment, the closure element 22 can be defined by a retractable door slidable transversely with respect to the tubular element 18 of the first portion 16' of the mouthpiece 16.
In the preferred embodiment of the figures, the mouthpiece 16 has a circular section shape; however, it can also comprise an oval, square, rectangular or quadrangular section shape or other shape suitable for the purpose.
The mask of the invention can comprise a flap or tongue made of the same material as the mask or of different material with aesthetic function to temporarily cover the mouthpiece 16.
The respiratory protection device of the invention, described above with reference to the constructive features thereof, is described below with reference to the functionality thereof.
A user wearing the mask of the invention, if he is in the condition to drink a beverage, does not have to remove or shift the mask from the face to leave the mouth free, as it would be sufficient for him to remove the closure element 22 of the mouthpiece 16 and insert a straw into the tubular element 18 of the first portion 16', with said straw passing through the membrane or septum 20 to then reach the mouth of the user who can thereby drink the beverage.
Similarly, if the person wearing the mask wants to smoke a cigarette, cigar (both traditional and electronic) or pipe.
Once this activity is finished, the user of the mask closes the mouthpiece 16 by means of the cover element 22 and, if present, covers said mouthpiece with any flap or tongue of fabric described above.
As can be seen from the above, the advantages obtained by the device of the invention are clear. The improved respiratory protective device of the present invention advantageously allows to perform actions such as drinking from a bottle/glass or smoking or the like without the need to remove or detach the mask (which defines the protection device) from the face.
Further advantageous is the fact that the membrane or septum of the mouthpiece, by virtue of the segmented shape, easily adapts to different diameters of introduced objects (straw, cigar, cigarette, etc.), prevents the sliding of the object which is introduced and, at the same time, prevents the passage of unfiltered air.
Further advantageous is the fact that the mouthpiece of the device of the invention avoids the presence of beverage residues or the like inside the mask and in the mouthpiece itself.
A further advantage of the protection device of the invention is that it preserves the functionality of the mask which, once the mouthpiece is closed by the closure means described, continues to perform the protective function thereof.
Further advantageous is the fact that the device of the invention is easy and quick to use as well as of economical construction.
