Description
본 발명은 광 소자 및 그 제조 방법에 관련된 것으로 보다 구체적으로는, 발광층을 트위스트(twist) 구조로 형성하지 않고서도 원편광된 빛을 방출할 수 있는 광 소자 및 그 제조 방법에 관련된 것이다.
최근 정보 통신 시대의 핵심 기술 중 하나인, 다양한 정보를 화면으로 구현하는 디스플레이는 보다 얇고 가벼워서 휴대가 가능하면서도 동시에 고성능의 품질을 갖추기 위한 방향으로 빠르게 발전하고 있다. 특히, 유기발광소자(Organic Light Emitting Diode, OLED)를 이용한 표시장치는 액정표시장치(Liquid Crystal Display, LCD)와 달리 별도의 광원을 필요로 하지 않으므로 보다 가볍고 얇은 두께로 제조가 가능할 뿐만 아니라, 높은 휘도, 낮은 소비 전력 등의 고품질 특성을 갖춰 휴대용 전자기기의 차세대 표시장치로 주목 받고 있다.
한편, 일반적으로 복굴절 기반의 원편광 유기발광소자를 구현하기 위해서는 발광층의 트위스트 구조를 유도한다. 하지만, 발광층을 트위스트 구조로 유도하는 방식은 구조 및 공정 상의 여러 문제를 가지고 있어, 원편광된 빛을 발광하는 새로운 형태의 발광층 구조가 요구되고 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 일 기술적 과제는, 발광층을 트위스트 구조로 형성하지 않고서도 원편광된 빛을 방출할 수 있는 광 소자 및 그 제조 방법을 제공하는데 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 기술적 과제는 상술된 것에 제한되지 않는다.
상기 기술적 과제를 해결하기 위해, 본 발명은 광 소자를 제공한다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 광 소자는, 서로 대향되는 기판 사이에 배치되는 유기발광층을 포함하며, 상기 유기발광층은, 제1 방향으로 정렬되며, 상기 제1 방향으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자로 이루어진 제1 발광층; 및 상기 제1 발광층 상에 적층되며, 상기 제1 방향과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 정렬되고, 상기 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자로 이루어진 제2 발광층을 포함하되, 상기 제1 광축과 상기 제2 광축은 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않을 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 제1 발광분자로부터 발광된 빛은 상기 제2 발광층을 통과하면서 원편광된 빛으로 방출될 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 제1 발광분자와 상기 제2 발광분자는 비등방성 구조로 이루어지되, 상기 제1 발광분자는 고분자 물질로 이루어지고, 상기 제2 발광분자는 저분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 제1 발광분자와 상기 제2 발광분자는 동일 또는 다른 색상의 빛을 발광할 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 광 소자는, 얼라인층을 더 포함하며, 상기 얼라인층은 상기 제1 발광층과 상기 제2 발광층 사이에 형성되며, 상기 제2 발광분자를 상기 제2 방향으로 정렬시키는 배향 패턴이 상기 제2 발광층과 마주하는 일측면에 구비될 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명은, 광 소자 제조 방법을 제공한다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 광 소자 제조 방법은, 제1 방향으로 러빙된 배향막 상에 제1 발광분자를 배향하여, 상기 제1 방향으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자로 이루어진 제1 발광층을 형성하는 제1 발광층 형성 단계; 상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 제1 방향과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 배향 패턴을 형성하는 배향 패턴 형성 단계; 및 상기 배향 패턴이 형성된 상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자로 이루어진 제2 발광층을 형성하는 제2 발광층 형성 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 제1 발광층 형성 단계에서는 상기 제1 발광분자로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 고분자 물질을 사용하고, 용액 공정을 통해 상기 배향막 상에 상기 고분자 물질을 코팅 후 가열하여, 상기 고분자 물질을 상기 제1 방향으로 정렬시킬 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 배향 패턴 형성 단계에서는 러빙, 광배향 및 스탬핑 중 어느 하나의 방법을 통해 상기 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴을 형성할 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 배향 패턴 형성 단계에서는 상기 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴을 형성하되, 상기 제2 방향은 상기 제1 방향과 서로 평행하지 않고 동시에 수직하지 않는 방향으로 설정될 수 있다.
일 실시 예에 따르면, 상기 제2 발광층 형성 단계에서는 상기 제2 발광분자로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 저분자 물질을 사용하고, 진공 분위기에서, 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴이 형성된 상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 저분자 물질을 증착시켜, 상기 저분자 물질을 상기 제2 방향으로 정렬시킬 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따르면, 서로 대향되는 기판 사이에 배치되는 유기발광층을 포함하며, 상기 유기발광층은, 제1 방향으로 정렬되며, 상기 제1 방향으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자로 이루어진 제1 발광층; 및 상기 제1 발광층 상에 적층되며, 상기 제1 방향과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 정렬되고, 상기 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자로 이루어진 제2 발광층을 포함하되, 상기 제1 광축과 상기 제2 광축은 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 발광층을 트위스트 구조로 형성하지 않고서도 원편광된 빛을 방출할 수 있는 광 소자 및 그 제조 방법이 제공될 수 있다.

도 1 내지 도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자를 설명하기 위한 도면들이다.
도 1에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자는 서로 대향되는 기판(미도시) 및 이들 사이에 배치되는 유기발광층(100)을 포함할 수 있다.
이때, 도시하진 않았지만, 예컨대, 상부 기판과 유기발광층(100) 사이, 그리고 하부 기판과 유기발광층(100) 사이에는 각각, 전극층이 구비될 수 있다. 여기서, 상부 기판, 즉, 유기발광층(100)으로부터 발광된 빛이 방출되는 경로 상에 구비되는 기판과, 유기발광층(100) 사이에 구비되는 전극층은 유기발광층(100)으로의 정공 주입이 잘 일어나도록 일함수(work function)가 큰 물질 중 유기발광층(100)에서 발생된 광이 잘 투과될 수 있는 물질로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다.
유기발광층(100)을 이루는 발광분자(112, 122)가 포토루미네선스(PL) 소재로 구비되는 경우, 양측의 전극층은 서로 동일한 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 전극층은 ITO로 이루어질 수 있다. 반면, 유기발광층(100)을 이루는 발광분자(112, 122)가 일렉트로루미네선스(EL) 소재로 구비되는 경우, 하부 기판과 유기발광층(100) 사이에 형성되는 전극층은 금속전극으로 이루어질 수 있다.
이러한 전극층은 유기발광층(100)으로부터 발생된 광을 상부 기판 측으로 반사시키는 물질 중 유기발광층(100)으로의 전자 주입이 잘 일어나도록 일함수가 작은 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 하부 기판과 유기발광층(100) 사이에 형성되는 전극층은 Al, Al:Li 또는 Mg:Ag와 같은 금속 박막으로 이루어질 수 있다.
상부 기판과 하부 기판은 동일한 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 상부 기판과 하부 기판은 투명 기판으로, 광 투과율이 우수하고 기계적인 물성이 우수한 것이면 어느 것이든 제한되지 않는다. 예를 들어, 상부 기판과 하부 기판으로는 열경화 또는 UV 경화가 가능한 유기필름인 고분자 계열의 물질이 사용될 수 있다. 또한, 상부 기판과 하부 기판으로는 화학강화유리인 소다라임 유리(SiO2-CaO-Na2O) 또는 알루미노실리케이트계 유리(SiO2-Al2O3-Na2O)가 사용될 수 있다. 이외에도 상부 기판 및 하부 기판으로는 금속산화물이나 금속질화물로 이루어진 기판이 사용될 수도 있다.
유기발광층(100)으로부터 발생된 광이 방출되는 경로 상에 구비되는 상부 기판은 유기발광층(100)으로부터 발생된 광을 외부로 방출시키는 통로 역할을 한다. 또한, 하부 기판은 상부 기판과 함께, 유기발광층(100) 및 전극층 등을 외부 환경으로부터 보호하는 역할을 한다. 이를 위해, 즉, 유기발광층(100) 및 전극층 등을 인캡슐레이션 시키기 위해, 상부 기판과 하부 기판은 이의 테두리를 따라 형성되는 씰링재, 예컨대, 에폭시(epoxy)를 매개로 서로 접합될 수 있다.
이때, 서로 대향되는 상부 기판과 하부 기판, 그리고 이들 테두리에 형성되는 씰링재에 의해 구획되는 내부 공간, 즉, 유기발광층(100)과 전극층 등이 배치되는 공간은 불활성 기체로 채워지거나 진공 분위기로 조성될 수 있다.
유기발광층(100) 전술한 바와 같이 서로 상하 방향으로 대향되는 상부 기판과 하부 기판 사이에 배치될 수 있다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 이러한 유기발광층(100)은 제1 발광층(110) 및 제2 발광층(120)을 포함하여 형성될 수 있다.
제1 발광층(110)은 제1 발광분자(112)로 이루어질 수 있다. 제1 발광층(110)은 배향막(101) 상에 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬되는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)로 이루어질 수 있다. 이때, 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)의 정렬 방향은 배향막(101)에 형성된 러빙 방향에 의해 결정될 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시 예에서는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)의 러빙 방향을 갖는 배향막(101)이 사용됨에 따라, 이의 상에 정렬되는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 제1 발광분자(112)는 액정 특성을 갖는 비등방성 구조의 고분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 제1 발광분자(112)가 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬된다는 것은 제1 발광분자(112)의 장축이 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)을 향한다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 제1 발광분자(112)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 가질 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축과 후술될 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 서로 평행하지 않을 수 있다. 동시에 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축과 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축을 기준으로, 0° 초과, 90° 미만의 각도를 가질 수 있다.
이에 따라, 제1 발광분자(112)로부터 발광된 빛은 제2 발광층(120)을 통과하면서 흡수되거나 위상 지연을 겪으면서 원편광되어 z축 방향(도면 기준)으로 방출될 수 있다.
여기서, 원편광이라 함은, z축 방향(도면 기준)으로 진행하는 빛에 있어서, 입사평면에서 x축(도면 기준) 자기장과 y축(도면 기준) 자기장 벡터 합이 원형으로 계속 변화하는 경우, 즉, x축 자기장과 y축 자기장 두 성분의 진폭이 정확히 같고 위상차가 90°일 경우를 의미할 수 있다.
이러한 제1 발광분자(112)는 자외선 흡수 시 특정 색상의 빛을 발광하는 고분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제1 발광분자(112)는 poly (9,9-dioctylfluorene-cobenzothiadiazole; F8BT) 및 poly(9,9-dioctyl-2,7-fluorene; PFO) 중 적어도 하나로 이루어질 수 있다. 이때, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 제1 발광분자(112)는 제2 발광분자(122)와 동일한 색상의 빛을 발광하는 고분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한, 제1 발광분자(112)는 제2 발광분자(122)와 다른 색상의 빛을 발광하는 고분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다.
한편, 배향막(101) 상에 정렬되는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 가지며, 격자 형태로 배열될 수 있다. 이때, 배향막(101) 상에 격자 형태로 배열되는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)는 단층 구조 또는 다층 구조로 이루어질 수 있다.
전술한 바와 같이, 배향막(101)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)의 러빙 방향을 가질 수 있다. 이러한 배향막(101)은, 비등방성 구조의 고분자 물질로 이루어지는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)가 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 갖도록, 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)의 정렬 방향을 결정할 수 있다. 이러한 배향막(101)은 하부 기판과 제1 발광층(110) 사이에 구비될 수 있다.
계속해서, 도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 제2 발광층(120)은 제2 발광분자(122)로 이루어질 수 있다. 제2 발광층(120)은 제1 발광층(110) 상에 적층되는 구조로 이루어질 수 있다. 제2 발광층(120)은 제1 발광층(110) 상에 제1 발광분자(112)의 정렬 방향인 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 다른 제2 방향으로 정렬되는 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)로 이루어질 수 있다. 이때, 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)의 정렬 방향은 제1 발광층(110) 상에 형성되는 특정 러빙 방향에 의해 결정될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 제2 발광분자(122)는 비등방성 구조의 저분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 제2 발광분자(122)가 제2 방향으로 정렬된다는 것은 제2 발광분자(122)의 장축이 제2 방향을 향한다는 것을 의미할 수 있다. 따라서, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 제2 발광분자(122)는 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 가질 수 있다.
이때, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 제1 발광분자(122)의 제1 광축, 즉, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)을 향하는 제1 광축과 서로 평행하지 않을 수 있다. 동시에, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 제1 발광분자(122)의 제1 광축과 서로 수직으로, 즉, x-y축으로 교차하지 않을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제2 발광분자(122)의 제2 광축은 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축을 기준으로, 0° 초과, 90° 미만의 각도를 가질 수 있다.
이에 따라, 제1 발광분자(112)로부터 발광된 빛은 제2 발광층(120)을 통과하면서 흡수되거나 위상 지연을 겪으면서 원편광되어 z축 방향(도면 기준)으로 방출될 수 있다.
제2 발광분자(122)는 제1 발광분자(112)와 동일한 색상의 빛을 발광하는 저분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제2 발광분자(122)는 아릴아민계, 카바졸계, 히드라존계 및 스틸벤계 물질을 포함하는 발광 저분자 물질 군 중 선택된 적어도 하나의 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 하지만, 이는 일례일 뿐, 제2 발광분자(122)는 다양한 발광 저분자 물질로부터 선택될 수 있음은 물론이다. 또한, 제2 발광분자(122)는 제1 발광분자(112)와 다른 색상의 빛을 발광하는 저분자 물질로 이루어질 수 있다.
여기서, 제1 발광층(110) 및 제2 발광층(120)을 이루는 발광분자(112, 122)들은 상기 발광층(110, 120)이 출사하는 광의 파장에 따라 정의될 수도 있다. 상기 발광층(110, 120)이 적색 광을 생성하는 경우, 상기 발광층(110, 120)은 예를 들어, CBP(carbazole biphenyl) 또는 mCP(1,3-bis(carbazol-9-[0058] yl)를 포함하는 호스트 물질을 포함하며,PIQIr(acac)(bis(1-phenylisoquinoline) acetylacetonate iridium),PQIr(acac)(bis(1-phenylquinoline) acetylacetonate iridium), PQIr(tris(1-phenylquinoline) iridium) 및 PtOEP(octaethylporphyrin platinum) 중 적어도 하나의 도펀트를 포함하는 인광 물질로 이루어질 수 있고, 이와 달리 PBD:Eu(DBM)3(Phen) 또는 Perylene을 포함하는 형광 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 만약, 상기 발광층(110, 120)이 녹색 광을 생성하는 경우, 상기 발광층(110, 120)은, 호스트 물질로 TCTA (Tris(4-carbazoyl-9-ylphenyl)amine), CBP (4,4′-Bis(Ncarbazolyl)-1,1′-biphenyl), Balq (Bis (8-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline)-(4-phenylphenoxy)aluminum) 및 PPV(poly(p phenylene vinylene)) 중 적어도 하나의 인광 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한, 상기 발광층(110, 120)이 청색 광을 생성하는 경우, 상기 발광층(110, 120)은 CBP 또는 mCP를 포함하는 호스트 물질을 포함하며, (4,6-F2ppy)2Irpic을 포함하는 도펀트 물질을 포함하는 인광 물질로 이루어질 수 있다. 이와는 달리, spiro-DPVBi, spiro-6P, 디스틸벤젠(DSB), 디스트릴아릴렌(DSA), PFO계 고분자 및 PPV계 고분자 중 적어도 하나의 형광 물질로 이루어질 수 있다.
제1 발광층(110) 상에 정렬되는 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)는 제2 방향, 즉, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 가지며, 격자 형태로 배열될 수 있다. 이때, 제1 발광층(110) 상에 격자 형태로 배열되는 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)는 단층 구조 또는 다층 구조로 이루어질 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자는 얼라인층(alignment layer)(130)을 더 포함하여 형성될 수 있다.
얼라인층(130)은 제1 발광층(110)과 제2 발광층(120) 사이에 형성될 수 있다. 얼라인층(130)은 제1 발광층(110) 상에 정렬되는 제2 발광분자(122)의 정렬 방향을 결정할 수 있다. 이를 위해, 얼라인층(130)은 제2 발광분자(122)를 제2 방향, 즉, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 제2 방향으로 정렬시키는 제2 방향 배향 패턴(도 6의 R2)를 구비할 수 있다. 이때, 제2 방향 배향 패턴(도 6의 R2)는 제2 발광층(120)과 마주하는 얼라인층(130)의 일측면에 구비될 수 있다. 이에 따라, 제2 방향의 배향 패턴(도 6의 R2)을 일측면에 구비하는 얼라인층(130) 상에 구비되는 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)는 제2 방향으로 정렬되어, 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 가질 수 있다.
즉, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에서, 배향막(101)은 제1 발광분자(112)의 정렬 방향을 결정할 수 있다. 제1 발광분자(112)은 배향막(101)에 의해 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬되어, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 가질 수 있다. 또한, 제2 발광분자(122)는 얼라인층(130)에 의해 제2 방향, 즉, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 제2 방향으로 정렬되어, 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 가질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 높이 방향(z축 방향)을 기준으로 보면, 제1 발광분자(112)와 제2 발광분자(122)는 서로 엇갈린 구조를 이루게 된다.
이때, 제2 발광분자(122)은 제1 발광층(110) 상에서 다양한 방식을 통해 제2 방향으로 정렬될 수 있는 바, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 얼라인층(130)은 생략될 수 있다.
한편, 다른 예로서, 제1 발광분자(112) 및 제2 발광분자(122)는 일렉트로루미네선스(EL) 소재로 이루어질 수 있다. 이 경우, 도시하진 않았지만, 상부 기판 측에 구비되는 전극층과 유기발광층(100) 사이에는 전공 주입층과 정공 수송층이 구비될 수 있다. 또한, 하부 기판 측에 구비되는 전극층과 유기발광층(100) 사이에는 전자 주입층과 전자 수송층이 구비될 수 있다. 이러한 구조에 따라, 양측 전극층에 순방향 전압이 인가되면, 상부 기판 측에 구비되는 전극층으로부터 정공이, 정공 주입층 및 정공 수송층을 통해 유기발광층(100) 측으로 이동하게 되고, 하부 기판 측에 구비되는 전극층으로부터 전자가, 전자 주입층 및 전자 수송층을 통해 유기발광층(100) 측으로 이동하게 된다.
이와 같이, 제1 발광분자(112)와 제2 발광분자(122)이 각각이 광축, 즉, 제1 광축과 제2 광축이 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 형태로 엇갈리게 적층되어 이루어진 유기발광층(100)으로 주입된 전자와 정공은 재결합하여 엑시톤(exciton)을 생성하고, 이러한 엑시톤이 여기상태(excited state)에서 기저상태(ground state)로 전이하면서 광을 방출하게 되는데, 이때, 방출되는 광의 밝기는 양측의 전극층 사이에 흐르는 전류량에 비례하게 된다.
한편, 도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자에 구비되는 유기발광층의 원편광 특성을 나타낸 그래프이다.
도 3을 참조하면, 배향막(101) 상에 정렬되어 있는 고분자 물질(LHCP), 즉, 제1 발광물질의 발광 파장은 432㎚이고, 제1 발광물질 상에 이의 광축과 평행하지 않고 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 방향으로 정렬되어 다른 광축을 갖는 저분자 물질(RHCP), 즉, 제2 발광물질의 발광 파장은 546㎚이다.
특정 방향의 광축을 갖는 고분자 물질로부터 발광된 빛은 고분자 물질의 광축과 평행하지 않고 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 광축을 갖는 저분자 물질로 이루어진 발광층을 통과하면서 흡수되거나 위상 지연을 겪으면서 원편광된 빛으로 방출될 수 있다.
이하, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자 제조 방법에 대하여, 도 4 내지 도 8을 참조하여 설명하기로 한다.
도 4는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자 제조 방법을 공정 순으로 나타낸 흐름도이고, 도 5은 도 4의 S110 단계를 나타낸 공정 모식도이며, 도 6은 도 4의 S120 단계를 나타낸 공정 모식도이고, 도 7은 도 4의 S120 단계를 나타낸 다른 공정 모식도이며, 도 8은 도 4의 S130 단계를 나타낸 공정 모식도이다.
도 4를 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 광 소자 제조 방법은, 제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110), 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120) 및 제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)를 포함할 수 있다.
먼저, 도 5를 참조하면, 제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자(112)로 이루어진 제1 발광층(110)을 형성하는 단계이다.
제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 러빙된 배향막(101)을 준비한다. 그 다음, 제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬된 제1 방향 배향 패턴 R1을 갖는 배향막(101) 상에 제1 발광분자(112)를 배향하여, 제1 발광분자(112)를 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬시킨다.
이때, 제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 제1 발광분자(112)로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 고분자 물질을 사용할 수 있다. 또한, 제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 제2 발광분자(122)와 동일 또는 다른 색상의 빛을 발광하는 고분자 물질을 제1 발광분자(112)로 사용할 수 있다.
제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 고분자 물질을 용액 공정을 통해 제1 방향 배향 패턴 R1을 갖는 배향막(101) 상에 코팅한 후 가열하여, 고분자 물질을 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬시킬 수 있다.
제1 발광분자(112)를 이루는 고분자 물질이 비등방성 구조로 이루어짐에 따라, 제1 방향 배향 패턴 R1를 갖는 배향막(101) 상에 배향되는 고분자 물질은 제1 방향 배향 패턴 R1과 동일한 방향의 광축을 가질 수 있다. 즉, 배향막(101) 상에 배향되는 제1 발광분자(112)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 가질 수 있다.
제1 발광층 형성 단계(S110)에서는 이와 같이, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 정렬된 제1 방향 배향 패턴 R1을 갖는 배향막(101) 상에 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)를 배향시킴으로써, 배향막(101) 상에 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 갖는 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)로 이루어진 제1 발광층(110)을 형성할 수 있다. 이때, 다수의 제1 발광분자(112)는 배향막(101) 상에서 격자 형태로 배열될 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 6을 참조하면, 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)는 제1 발광층(110) 상에 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 형성하는 단계이다.
배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 제1 발광층(110) 상에 형성되는 제2 발광층(120)을 이루는 제2 발광분자(122)의 정렬 방향을 결정하는 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 제1 발광층(110) 상에 형성될 수 있다.
배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 러빙(rubbing), 광배향(photo-alignment) 및 스탬핑(stamping) 중 어느 하나의 방법을 통해, 제1 발광층(110) 상에 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 형성할 수 있다.
이때, 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축이 향하는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직하지 않는 제2 방향으로 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 형성할 수 있다.
한편, 도 7을 참조하면, 다른 예로서, 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 먼저, 제1 발광층(110) 상에 얼라인층(130)을 형성할 수 있다. 그 다음, 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 얼라인층(130)의 표면에 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2, 즉, 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축이 향하는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직하지 않는 제2 방향으로 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 형성할 수 있다. 이때, 배향 패턴 형성 단계(S120)에서는 러빙(rubbing), 광배향(photo-alignment) 및 스탬핑(stamping) 중 어느 하나의 방법을 통해, 얼라인층(130)의 표면에 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 형성할 수 있다.
마지막으로, 도 8을 참조하면, 제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)는 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자(122)로 이루어진 제2 발광층(120)을 형성하는 단계이다.
제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)는 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2가 형성된 제1 발광층(110) 상에 제2 발광분자(122)를 배향하여, 제2 발광분자(122)를 제2 방향으로 정렬시킨다.
이때, 제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)에서는 제2 발광분자(122)로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 저분자 물질을 사용할 수 있다. 또한, 제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)에서는 고분자 물질로 이루어지는 제1 발광분자(112)와 동일 또는 다른 색상의 빛을 발광하는 저분자 물질을 제2 발광분자(122)로 사용할 수 있다.
제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)에서는 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 저분자 물질을 진공 분위기에서, 제2 방향으로 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2가 형성된 제1 발광층(110) 상에 증착시킬 수 있다. 이를 통해, 제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)는 제1 발광층(110) 상에 저분자 물질로 이루어진 제2 발광분자(122)를 제2 방향으로 정렬시킬 수 있다.
제2 발광분자(122)를 이루는 저분자 물질이 비등방성 구조로 이루어짐에 따라, 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 갖는 제1 발광층(110)의 표면에 배향되는 제2 발광분자(122)는 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2와 동일한 방향의 광축을 가질 수 있다. 즉, 제1 발광층(110)의 표면에 배향되는 제2 발광분자(122)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자(112)와 달리, 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)과 평행하지 않고, 동시에 수직으로 교차하지도 않는 방향으로 제2 광축을 가질 수 있다.
예를 들어, 제2 발광분자(122)는 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)을 향하는 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축을 기준으로, 0° 초과, 90° 미만의 각도를 갖는 제2 광축을 가질 수 있다.
제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)에서는 이와 같이, 제2 방향으로 정렬된 제2 방향 배향 패턴 R2를 표면에 갖는 제1 발광층(110) 상에 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)를 배향시킴으로써, 제1 발광층(110) 상에 제1 발광분자(112)의 제1 광축과 평행하지 않고 동시에 수직으로 교차하지 않는 제2 광축을 갖는 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)로 이루어진 제2 발광층(120)을 형성할 수 있다.
이에 따라, 다수의 제2 발광분자(122) 각각은, 높이 방향(도면 기준 z축 방향)으로, 다수의 제1 발광분자(112) 각각과 서로 엇갈린 적층 구조를 이룰 수 있다. 이때, 다수의 제2 발광분자(122)는 제1 발광층(110) 상에서 격자 형태로 배열될 수 있다.
이에 따라, 제1 발광분자(112)로부터 발광된 빛은 제2 발광층(120)을 통과하면서 흡수되거나 위상 지연을 겪으면서 원편광되어 z축 방향(도면 기준)으로 방출될 수 있다.
제2 발광층 형성 단계(S130)가 완료되면, 제1 발광층(110)을 이루면서 제1 방향(도면 기준 y축 방향)으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자(112)와, 제2 발광층(120)을 이루면서 제1 광축과 평행하지 않고, 동시에 수직으로 교차하지 않은 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자(122)가 높이 방향(도면 기준 z축 방향)으로 적층된 광 소자용 유기발광층(100)이 제조된다.
이와 같이, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에서는 발광층(110, 120)을 이루는 제1 발광분자(112)와 제2 발광분자(122)를 트위스트 구조로 형성하지 않고서도 원편광된 빛을 방출할 수 있는 광 소자 및 그 제조 방법이 제공될 수 있다.
이상, 본 발명을 바람직한 실시 예를 사용하여 상세히 설명하였으나, 본 발명의 범위는 특정 실시 예에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 첨부된 특허청구범위에 의하여 해석되어야 할 것이다. 또한, 이 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 습득한 자라면, 본 발명의 범위에서 벗어나지 않으면서도 많은 수정과 변형이 가능함을 이해하여야 할 것이다.
Claims (10)
- 서로 대향되는 기판 사이에 배치되는 유기발광층을 포함하며,상기 유기발광층은,제1 방향으로 정렬되며, 상기 제1 방향으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자로 이루어진 제1 발광층; 및상기 제1 발광층 상에 적층되며, 상기 제1 방향과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 정렬되고, 상기 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자로 이루어진 제2 발광층;을 포함하되,상기 제1 광축과 상기 제2 광축은 서로 평행하지 않고, 동시에 서로 수직으로 교차하지 않는 광 소자.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 제1 발광분자로부터 발광된 빛은 상기 제2 발광층을 통과하면서 원편광된 빛으로 방출되는 광 소자.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 제1 발광분자와 상기 제2 발광분자는 비등방성 구조로 이루어지되,상기 제1 발광분자는 고분자 물질로 이루어지고, 상기 제2 발광분자는 저분자 물질로 이루어지는 광 소자.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 제1 발광분자와 상기 제2 발광분자는 동일 또는 다른 색상의 빛을 발광하는 광 소자.
- 제1 항에 있어서,얼라인층을 더 포함하며,상기 얼라인층은 상기 제1 발광층과 상기 제2 발광층 사이에 형성되며, 상기 제2 발광분자를 상기 제2 방향으로 정렬시키는 배향 패턴이 상기 제2 발광층과 마주하는 일측면에 구비되는 광 소자.
- 제1 방향으로 러빙된 배향막 상에 제1 발광분자를 배향하여, 상기 제1 방향으로 제1 광축을 갖는 제1 발광분자로 이루어진 제1 발광층을 형성하는 제1 발광층 형성 단계;상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 제1 방향과 방향이 다른 제2 방향으로 배향 패턴을 형성하는 배향 패턴 형성 단계; 및상기 배향 패턴이 형성된 상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 제2 방향으로 제2 광축을 갖는 제2 발광분자로 이루어진 제2 발광층을 형성하는 제2 발광층 형성 단계;를 포함하는 광 소자 제조 방법.
- 제6 항에 있어서,상기 제1 발광층 형성 단계에서는 상기 제1 발광분자로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 고분자 물질을 사용하고, 용액 공정을 통해 상기 배향막 상에 상기 고분자 물질을 코팅 후 가열하여, 상기 고분자 물질을 상기 제1 방향으로 정렬시키는 광 소자 제조 방법.
- 제6 항에 있어서,상기 배향 패턴 형성 단계에서는 러빙, 광배향 및 스탬핑 중 어느 하나의 방법을 통해 상기 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴을 형성하는 광 소자 제조 방법.
- 제8 항에 있어서,상기 배향 패턴 형성 단계에서는 상기 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴을 형성하되, 상기 제2 방향은 상기 제1 방향과 서로 평행하지 않고 동시에 수직하지 않는 방향으로 설정되는 광 소자 제조 방법.
- 제6 항에 있어서,상기 제2 발광층 형성 단계에서는 상기 제2 발광분자로 비등방성 구조로 이루어진 저분자 물질을 사용하고, 진공 분위기에서, 제2 방향으로 상기 배향 패턴이 형성된 상기 제1 발광층 상에 상기 저분자 물질을 증착시켜, 상기 저분자 물질을 상기 제2 방향으로 정렬시키는 광 소자 제조 방법.
