Abstract

A diving mask (100,200,300,400) is disclosed comprising a faceplate (10,110,210) having a lateral partition (20,120,220) on an interior surface delineating an upper and lower section, the lower section comprising a region (5,105,205) that extends away from the upper section and includes at least one cutout opening (6,106,206) fitted with a complementary-shaped flexible insert (8,108,208) that enables a user to grasp the nose. The faceplate (10,110,210) further includes a snorkel coupling (26,226) having a passageway (27,227) contained therein and conduits (60) connecting the passageway (27,227) with a lower chamber (24,124,224). The faceplate (10,110,210) further includes a flexible tubular insert (109,209) defining a passageway (190,290) extending through the faceplate (10,110,210) to the lower chamber (24,124,224). The tubular insert (109,209) has a distal end (192,292) dimensioned to fit and seal onto the mouthpiece receiver tube (85,185,285) of a conventional second stage scuba regulator (84,184,284). The mask ( 100,200, 300,400) may be interchangeably configured for both scuba and snorkeling environments.
