Abstract

A spinal bone fastener assembly (1) is provided comprising a bone fastener (10) comprising a bone fastener head and an elongated shaft; a rod receiving head (20) having a top end and a bottom end, and defining a central axis extending between the top and bottom ends, the rod receiving head (20) further comprising a first rod receiving elongated slot and a central pocket; a rod receiving insert (40) to engage and translate within the central pocket substantially parallel to the central axis, and comprising a second rod receiving elongated slot, and further comprising a bottom seat; and a set screw (60) for tightening a rod into the rod receiving insert (40), which comprises a thread (50) configured to engage with the set screw (60) to allow the bottom seat to approach the spinal rod in response to a tightening rotation of the set screw (60) while being threadedly engaged with the thread, and while in contact with the rod. The assembly (1) comprises a latching mechanism (42) defining an unlatched state, and a latched state, in which the rod is configured to be pressed against the latching mechanism (42) to thereby inhibit a translational movement of the rod receiving insert (40) in relation to the rod receiving head (20).
