Abstract
1HKEYPAD is a modified version of desktop QWERTY computer keyboard which can be operated by either left hand or right hand, has 16 input keys, 10 modifier keys, Ctrl and Alt keys. Each input key will function as one default key and 4 modified keys. 16 input keys are equal to 80 keys of a normal QWERTY keyboard. Since 1HKEYPAD is operated by one hand, to reach each key without struggle, 16 input keys are arranged in two rows of eight keys each. Each row is operated by four fingers of right hand or left hand. 10 modifier keys are arranged in two groups of 5 keys each below the input key rows, one set at the left edge and other set at the right edge. Modifier keys are operated by left hand or right hand thump finger. 1HKEYPAD is designed for persons with hand disability.
Description
Description
Title of Invention: 1HKEYPAD
1 Inventor Kudai Suresh Thacholi has already applied for patent of the title 1HKEYPAD in Indian Patent Office and the patent application number is 202021000199 dated 03-01-2020. In the title of 1HKEYPAD, “1H” stands for one hand, due to this keypad can be operated by one hand, either left hand or right hand.
Technical Field
2 1HKEYPAD is a new type of desk top computer keypad which is a modified version of existing QWERTY computer keyboard. This keypad is initially designed to work with the existing desktop and laptop computers by hand disabled persons.
Background Art
3 Existing QWERTY computer keyboards have more than 100 keys. These keyboards are operated by two hands. Hand disabled persons typing on these keyboards struggle too much to reach different keys with one hand. Because of this the typing speed is very less. Main aim of this invention is to reduce the number of keys and arrange these keys in such a way that the keyboard can be operated by one hand either left hand or right hand without struggle and attain a maximum typing speed.
Advantageous Effects of Invention
4 Main aim of this invention is to obtain the functions of an 86 keys computer keyboard with a 28 keys keypad which can be operated by one hand either with left hand or right hand.
Brief description of attached drawings
5 There is only one drawing titled as Figure-1. In Figure-1 there are 28 keys and out of these 28 keys, 16 keys are input keys titled as Key-1, Key-2, Key-3, Key-4, Key-5, Key-6, Key-7, Key-8, Key-9, Key-10, Key-11, Key-12, Key-13, Key-14, Key-15 and Key-16. 2 sets of 5 modifier keys titled as Row-2(21, 24), Row-3(20, 25), ShiftLock(19, 26), Func(18, 27) and NumLock(17, 28). Remaining two keys are Ctrl(23) and Alt(22) for short cut operation. Modifier keys and Short cut keys are arranged below the input keys.
Description of Embodiments
6 On the QWERTY keyboards, keys are arranged in five rows, from the bottom, 3 rows are mainly alphabets. Fourth row is mainly for numbers and fifth row is mainly for functions. On the 1HKEYPAD layout, Out of 28 keys on the keypad, 16 keys are input keys, 2 sets of duplicate 5 keys are modifier keys, Ctrl key and Alt key.
7 Since 1HKEYPAD is operated by one hand, to reach each key without much struggle, 16 input keys are arranged in 2 sets of 8 keys groups in 2 rows. Input Keys (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are arranged in bottom row and Input Keys (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) are arranged in top row.
Modifier Keys (17, 18, 19, 20, 21) are arranged on the left edge of the keypad below row-1 and operated by right hand thump finger while the keypad is operated with right hand. Modifier keys (24, 25, 26, 27, 28) are arranged on the right edge of the keypad below row-1 and operated by left hand thump finger while the keypad is operated with left hand. Alt key(22) is arranged adjacent to left side modifier keys set and Ctrl key (23) is arranged adjacent to right hand modifier keys set. Alt key and Ctrl key are the short cut keys operated by thump finger. Modifier key (ShiftLock) has the same function of Shift key on the QWERTY keyboard and operated by thump finger. Outputs generated by 16 input keys are given in table- 1 and table-2. Below table-1 gives the output generated by input keys (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).
Claims
CLAIMS A desktop computer keypad titled as 1HKEYPAD, which has 28 number of keys, can be operated by one hand, either left hand or right hand, has a layout as shown in the Figure- 1, which has the same function of an 86 keys QWERTY keyboard and can be USB cable type or Bluetooth/wireless type. 1HKEYPAD is designed for persons with hand disability. But normal people can also operate this keypad with one hand while other hand used for other activities. Out of 28 keys on the keypad, 16 keys are input keys, 2 sets of 5 duplicate keys are modifier keys, Ctrl key and Alt key. 2 sets of 5 modifier keys are Row-2(21, 24), Row-3(20, 25), ShiftLock(19, 26), Func(18, 27) and NumLock(17, 28). Since 1HKEYPAD is operated by one hand, to reach each key without much struggle, 16 input keys are arranged in 2 sets of 8 keys group in 2 rows. Alt (22) key is arranged adjacent to left side modifier keys set and Ctrl (23) key is arranged adjacent to right hand modifier keys set. Alt key and Ctrl key are operated by thump finger. Each input key has one default output and four modified output. So, the 16 input keys are equal to 80 keys of a standard QWERTY keyboard. Output generated by each key is given in the attached Table- 1 and Table -2. 5 outputs generated by each input key are marked on it. By reading from left to right, first row of alphabet outputs are the default one which are generated by pressing only input keys. Second row of alphabet outputs are generated by pressing modifier key Row-2 and each input keys together. Third row of alphabet outputs are generated by pressing modifier key Row-3 and each input keys together. Fourth row of numeric outputs are generated by pressing NumLock key and each input keys together. Fifth row of Function outputs are generated by pressing Func key and each input keys together. Ctrl and Alt keys have the same function of short cut operation as on the QWERTY keyboard and operated by thump finger. ShiftFock key has the same function of Shift key on the QWERTY keyboard and operated by thump finger.
