DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Figure 1 shows a support base 1 according to the invention as seen from side. The support base 1 has a front surface 11 and a back surface 12, which the back surface 12 is arranged to be attached to the wall structure. The support base 1 is also attachable to adjacent support bases from its top and bottom edges. The support base 1 comprises a gripper 2 protruding from the front surface 11. One support base 1 may comprise multiple grippers 2 although figure 1 shows only one gripper 1 for the sake of clarity. This also applies to all embodiments of the invention. The gripper 2 comprises a first gripper arm 20 protruding from the front surface of the support base 1 to a first direction. The gripper is preferably made by punching it from the support base 1 and bending it into a desired shape. The gripper 2 further comprises a first locking part 21 extending from the first gripper arm 20 to a second direction transverse to the first direction and a second locking part 22 extending from the first gripper arm 20 to a third direction transverse to the first direction on an opposite side of the first gripper arm 20 than the first locking part 21. In other words, the gripper comprises in this embodiment of the invention at least two locking parts 21, 22 such that at least one of the locking parts is arranged to provide a locking connection with the tile while the other locking part may act as a spring to counterforce the first locking part. The spring force ensures that the first locking part will not escape from its cavity within the tile. The second locking part will also serve as a guide when installing the tile to the support base 1. Further, the at least two locking parts 21, 22 are provided on different sides of the first gripper arm 20 so as to tie the tile with the locking in two different directions. The first locking part 21 and the second locking part 22 are arranged to connect a back surface 102, 202 of the tile 100, 200 to the front surface 11 of the support base 1 and to lock the tile 100, 200 to the support base 1 such that the front surface 101, 201 of the tile is facing away from the support base 1.
Figure 1 shows also a tile 100 in a separated position before forming a tile joint with the support base 1. The tile 100 comprises at least one first cavity 4 having a first cavity portion 41 and a second cavity portion 42. The first cavity 4 is formed to receive the first gripper arm 20 of the gripper 2 together with the first locking part 21 within the first cavity portion 41 and the second locking part 22 within the second cavity portion 42. The first cavity 4 may also be formed such that there is a separate cavity portion for the first locking part 21 or the first cavity 4 may be formed so that the whole gripper 2 is provided within the same cavity portion having a form so as to provide a locking connection with the first and second locking parts 21, 22.
The first gripper arm 20 is arranged to protrude from the support base
I to the first direction. The angle a between the first gripper arm 20 and the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is preferably less than 90°. The first locking part 21 is arranged to extend from the first gripper arm 20 in the second direction. In the embodiment shown in figure 1 an angle between the second direction and a direction A orthogonal to the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is less than 90°. When the first locking part 21 is provided in connection with the tile 100, the effect of the first locking part 21 extending toward the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is that it pulls the tile toward the support base 1. However, the second locking part 22 may also be provided such that it extends toward the front surface
II of the support base 1, but it is enough that at least one of the locking parts is providing a pulling force toward the front surface 11 of the support base 1. The angle a being a smaller of the angles between the front surface 11 of the support base 1 and the first gripper arm 20. Thus, the first gripper arm 20 may protrude from the front surface 11 of the support base 1 for example upwards or downwards at the angle a.
Figure 2 shows a tile joint according to the invention in which the support base 1 shown in figure 1 and the tile 100 shown in figure 1 are connected together for forming the tile joint. The first gripper arm 20 and the first locking part 21 are provided in the first cavity portion 41 and the second locking part 22 is provided within the second cavity portion 42 such that the gripper 20 is inside the first cavity 4 and the back surface 102 of the tile 100 is arranged against the front surface 11 of the support base 1.
Figure 3 shows one example of a support base 1 according to the invention which shows two grippers 2 protruding from the support base 1. As shown in figure 3 the grippers 2 are formed by punching a plate-like support base 1 and bending the grippers 2 such that first and second locking parts 21, 22 are formed. For the sake of clarity, the support base 1 shown in figure 1 is illustrated without forms other than the grippers 2. The grippers 2 comprise the first gripper arms 20 having a first surface 20a and a second surface 20b. The first surface 20a of the first gripper arm 20 is arranged in an angle less than 90° relative to the front surface 11 of the support base 1, and in a preferable embodiment of the invention the angle between the first surface 20a of the gripper 2 and the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is between 20-70° and more preferably between 30-60°. When the support base 1 is attached to a wall structure in a position as it is shown in figure 3 a tile is mounted on the support base 1 by moving it obliquely towards the support base 1.
Figure 4 shows the support base 1 shown in figure 3 as seen from side in which it can be seen that the second locking part 22 is provided in this example such that it extends from the first gripper arm 20 in an angle towards the front surface 11 of the support base 1. In the embodiment shown in figure 4 the first gripper arm 20 is also provided to extend from the front surface 11 of the support base 1 in an angle which is 45°. The first locking part 21 extends from the first gripper arm 20 substantially parallel to the front surface 11 of the support base 1 and forms a further bend in a direction away from the front surface 11 of the support base 1.
Figure 5 shows another example of a support base 1 according to the invention in which the first gripper arm 20 extending into the first direction is bent for forming the second locking part 22. The first locking part 21 is extending from the second locking part 22 and is formed by bending the gripper 2 toward the second direction from the end of the second locking part 22 thereby forming an integral structure with the second locking part 22. In this example the first locking part 21 is slightly extending toward the front surface 11 of the support base 1. These are better seen in figure 6 which shows the support base 1 shown in figure 5 as a side view. In other words, the figures 5 and 6 show the same features shown in different viewing angles.
Figure 7 shows tile joints according to the invention in which three tiles 10, 100 are provided in connection with the support bases 1 for forming the tile joints. The tiles 10, 100 are provided in connection with the support bases 1 such that the back surfaces 102, 202 of the tiles 10, 100 are against the front surface 11 of the support bases 1 and the front surface 101, 201 of the tiles 10, 100 faces away from the wall structure 300. The tiles 10, 100 having first and second side surface 103, 104, 203, 204 such that when the tiles 10, 100 are connected to the support bases 1 the first side surface 103 of the first tile 10 is facing toward the second side surface 204 of the second tile 100.
Figure 8 shows another example of a tile joint according to the invention in which a corner tile 100 is connected to the support base 1. The support bases 1 are connected together such that the corner tile 100 can be attached to the support bases 1. In this example the corner tile 100 comprises multiple cavities 4 for the grippers 2 protruding from the front surfaces 11 of the support bases 1. In case of corner tiles, the connection between the support base 1 and the tile 100 is very advantageous through the back surface 102 of the tile 100 since the side surfaces 103, 104 of the tile 100 are not facing each other. The angle between the first gripper arm 20 and the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is more critical with the corner tiles 100 because of assembling. The angle between the first gripper arm 20 and the front surface 11 of the support base 1 is preferably 45°.
Figure 9 shows another example of a support base 1 and a tile joint according to the invention which differs from the example shown in figure 8 such that the support base 1 further comprises side grippers 3. The side grippers 3 comprise a gripping part 30 for forming contact with the tile 100. The side grippers 3 having a first gripper surface 3a and a second gripper surface 3b opposite to the first gripper surface 3a. The first gripper surface 3a of the side gripper 3 extending transverse relative to the first surface 20a of the first gripper arm 20. The tiles 100 comprise a back surface 102 and a front surface 101. In case of a corner tile 100 the back surface 102 is formed of two portions having for example an angle of 90° between the two portions of the back surface 102. Therefore, the first side 103 and the second side 104 of the corner tile 100 are not facing each other. The tile 100 further comprises a top surface 105 and a bottom surface. Figure 9 shows the top surface 105 of the tile 100. The side gripper 3 is arranged to be connected to the top surface 105. Similarly, another side gripper is arranged to be connected to the bottom surface of the tile.
Figure 10 shows still another example of a support base 1 according to the invention comprising the side grippers 3. The side grippers are arranged in connection with the support base 1 such that the second gripper surfaces 3b are facing each other, i.e. that the grippers 3 are provided such that a tile 100 to be arranged in connection with the support base 1 is provided between the side grippers 3 while the gripper 2 is provided within the tile 100. Figure 11 shows a tile joint according to the invention in which the tile comprises a first cavity 4 and a second cavity 40 such that the first gripper arm 20 is provided within the first cavity 4 and the second gripper arm 200 is provided within the second cavity 40. The first locking part 21 of first gripper arm 20 and the first locking part 201 of the second gripper arm 200 are facing towards each other but in separate cavities 4.
Figure 12 shows a tile joint according to the invention in which the tile comprises a first cavity 4 such that the first gripper arm 20 and the second gripper arm 200 are provided within the same first cavity 40. The first locking part 21 of first gripper arm 20 and the first locking part 201 of the second gripper arm 200 are facing away from each other. The grippers shown in figures 11 and 12 may be similar to any of the gripper embodiments shown in figures 1-10.
The invention has been described above with reference to the examples shown in the figures. However, the invention is in no way restricted to the above examples but may vary within the scope of the claims.
