Description

DESCRIPTION
DEVICE FOR TREATING AND APPLYING PIECES OF ABSORBENT
ARTICLES
Technical field
This invention relates to a device for treating and applying pieces of absorbent articles.
The term piece of absorbent articles means for example an absorbent pad, or an elasticated band, without limiting the scope of the invention.
Background art
In order to increase the production speeds of machines for making and packaging absorbent articles, the need was felt to make a device for treating and applying pieces of absorbent articles which meets the new production speed targets.
Disclosure of the invention
The device comprises a system for feeding a continuous web to a cutting station at which a scoring element forms at least a first cut line and a second cut line along a transversal direction of the continuous web with respect to the feed direction of the continuous web, according to a predetermined spacing.
A first cut line and a second cut line, consecutive to each other on the continuous web according to the above-mentioned spacing, are designed to form a separate piece of the continuous web.
Downstream of the cutting station, according to the feed direction of the continuous web, the device comprises a unit for conveying separate pieces from a cutting station of the continuous web to a station for releasing the separate piece above at least one receiving sub-layer.
The conveying unit comprises a plurality of pads, rotating about a shared axis of rotation, each of which has a respective surface for retaining a respective piece. The cutting station comprises a cutting element the movement of which is coordinated with the rotation of the pads, in such a way that the cutting of the continuous web occurs at the first cut line and at the second cut line.
At the cutting station the portion of the continuous web, having at least one between the first and the second cut line, is positioned in an empty space between two consecutive pads of the conveying unit.
Advantageously, forming a cut line facilitates the operation of cutting the web along that cut line, speeding up the production process.
Moreover, advantageously, forming a cut line allows the cut to be made along the latter by means of a cutting element without the need to adopt an anvil opposing the cutting element, significantly limiting the wear on the cutting element, and consequently, its substitution.
Brief description of drawings
Further features and advantages of this invention will be more apparent in the non-limiting description of a preferred but non-exclusive embodiment of a device for treating and applying pieces of absorbent articles, as illustrated in a schematic perspective view in Figure 1.
Detailed description of preferred embodiments of the invention
With reference to Figure 1 , the numeral 1 denotes a device for treating and applying pieces 8 of absorbent articles.
That device 1 comprises a system 2 for feeding a continuous web 3 to a cutting station 4 at which a scoring element 5 forms at least a first cut line 6 and a second cut line 7.
The first cut line 6 and the second cut line 7 are formed along a direction transversal to the feed direction of the continuous web 3, according to a spacing corresponding to the length of a separate piece 8.
In other words, the first cut line 6 and the second cut line 7, consecutive to each other along the continuous web 3 according to the feed direction, are designed to form a respective separate piece 8. The terms first cut line 6 and second cut line 7 refer to an alternating sequence of cuts, for example in the form of dots or lines, which allow the continuous web 3 to be kept whole as it is fed.
Downstream of the cutting station 4, the device 1 comprises a unit 9 for conveying pieces 8 from a cutting station 10 which severs the continuous web along at least the first cut line 6 and the second cut line 7 to a station 11 for releasing the piece 8 on a receiving sub-layer 12.
The conveying unit 9 rotates about its axis of rotation 9a, to bring each pad 13 from the cutting station 10 to the release station 11 , and from the release station 11 to the cutting station 10.
The conveying unit 9 comprises a plurality of pads 13, rotating about a shared axis 9a of rotation, each of which has a respective surface 13a for retaining a respective piece 8.
The cutting station 10 comprises a cutting element 14, rotating about its axis 14a of rotation, configured to sever the continuous web 3, along the first cut line 6 and the second cut line 7.
The movement of the cutting element 14, that is to say, the rotation about its axis 14a, is coordinated with the rotation of the pads 13, about the axis 9a of rotation of the opposing unit 9, in such a way that the cutting of the continuous web 3 occurs at the first cut line 6 and at the second cut line 7. In a preferred embodiment, the cutting of the continuous web 3 is performed before the moving away of one pad 13 from another, during the passage from the cutting station 10 to the release station 11.
In an alternative embodiment, the cutting of the continuous web 3 is performed during the moving away of one pad 13 from another, during the passage from the cutting station 10 to the release station 11.
During the cutting of the continuous web 3 at the first cut line 6 and at the second cut line 7, the portion of continuous web 3 having at least one between the first cut line 6 and the second cut line 7 is interposed in a gap 15 between two consecutive pads 13, in particular in the gap 15 between the retaining surfaces 13a of the two pads 13. The terms gap 15 between two consecutive pads 13, or gap between the respective retaining surfaces 13a of the two pads 13, refer to the empty space between two consecutive pads 13.
Advantageously, the cutting of the continuous web 3 along at least the first and the second cut line 6 and 7 to obtain respective separate pieces 8 occurs without the use of an opposing element, thereby providing greater protection from wear for the cutting element 14.
With reference to the movement of each pad 13 of the conveying unit 9, it should be noticed that each pad 13 is equipped with a rotational movement about its axis 13b to vary the respective orientation from the cutting station 10, where the long side of the pad 13 is parallel to the feed direction of the continuous web 3, to the release station 11 , where the long side of the pad 13 is transversal to the feed direction of the receiving sub layer 12, and vice versa.
Each pad 13 is also provided with a translational movement, along a direction parallel to the respective axis 13b of rotation, towards and away from the shared axis 9a of rotation of the pads 13.
The translational movement along the direction parallel to the respective axis 13b of rotation occurs during the rotational movement about its axis 13b of rotation to prevent the pads 13 from colliding with each other.
From the cutting station 10 to the release station 11 , and vice versa, the conveying unit 9 is configured for rotating each pad 13 about the shared axis 9a of rotation by varying its speed of rotation at least from a first rotation speed, equal to the feed speed of the continuous web 3 at the cutting station 10, to a second speed, equal to the feed speed of the sub layer 12 at the release station 11.
With reference to the cutting station 10, once the continuous web 3 has been severed at one of either the first cut line 6 or the second cut line 7, the variation in the relative speed of the pads 13 causes two consecutive pads 13 to move away from each other, considering the direction of rotation of the conveying unit 9.
