Description
NON-CONDUCTIVE TRANSPARENT SHEATH USED IN SURGICAL DISSECTION
APPARATUS Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a sheath structure developed to be used in surgical instruments, and preferably in hand-operated instruments utilized for dissecting tissues, for dissecting layers of stratified tissues from one another, for the separation of upper and lower tissues without injuring them, as well as for joining and cauterizing tissues in open and closed surgeries. The present invention particularly relates to a sheath compatible with a surgical instrument like forceps and/or surgical scissors.
State of the Art
In surgical procedures, dissecting scissors, as one the surgical instruments employed for dissecting, and making incisions to separate tissues in the state of the art, are mainly used for dissecting all tissue bundles, veins and superimposed tissues in all organs within the human body.
Dissection is a process performed for rendering all tissues/components visible by separating said tissues and components thereof layerw ise in cases where two tissues are superimposed. This process is performed by using dissecting scissors that are used for separating tissues layer by layer during dissection. These dissecting scissors usually feature various dimensions and geometries as well as blunt or tapered blade points. Dissecting scissors allow for creating a gap by accessing the subsection of tissue in the upper layer, thereby separating the tissue from the adjacent second tissue located in the subsection. Subsequent to separating two tissues, a sharp surgical instrument is employed in order to incise one of the tissues if necessary. The surgeon who will carry out the operation initially performs a dissection by using a pair of dissecting scissors, and accordingly, a second person who is preferably an assistant surgeon or a surgical nurse helps the operating surgeon to maintain the gap between two tissues in order to prevent the gap from closing. A second person who is wearing a pair of sterile latex gloves inserts a finger or his/her hand between the tissue to be
dissected and the tissue located thereunder in order to prevent the gap created by the surgeon via a pair of dissecting scissors from closing. The surgeon who is performing the operation dissects the respective tissue over said person's finger or hand by means of whom the gap in the dissection area is prevented from closing. In the state of the art, the surgeon who is going to perform dissection is forced to dissect the respective tissue (the tissue that remains under the finger or hand) without seeing it due to the fact that the finger/hand of the second person who is wearing sterile latex gloves is positioned between two tissues dissected before during these processes performed in due course of the surgery. Concordantly, the hand or the finger of the second person who is wearing sterile latex gloves may suffer bums or might get damaged due to the surgical instrument operated by the surgeon who is performing a dissection. Consequently, the surgeon is forced to perform and conclude the surgery in a defect-free and safe manner by depending only on his/her experience since the surgeon is unable to see the tissue that remains under the latex glove during dissection. Hence, problems of any nature to be experienced in dissection and any procedures to be performed thereafter by inexperienced surgeons not only pose risks for the second person who may consequently suffer any injuries but also endanger the operation and preventing it from being concluded in a fast and safe manner. Objects of the Invention and Advantages Thereof
The present invention not only separates the function of the dissecting scissors used in dissection but also ensures the visibility of the tissue that remains under the hand/finger of the second person along with eliminating the need for another person who will provide assistance in separating two tissues.
The present invention ensures that the surgeon may perform and conclude the operation without injuring any of the tissues to be dissected.
The present invention allows the surgeon to observe the underlying tissue while dissecting it by exerting energy when the shanks of the dissecting scissors that are inserted under the tissue to be dissected, are open without any risk of injuring the underlying tissue thanks to the non-conductive and transparent structure of the inventive product.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The present invention relates to a transparent sheath (20) developed to be used for hand-operated surgical instruments that are joined at a single center and that comprise at least two shanks/ends moving from this center, and that are utilized for dissecting tissues, for dissecting layers of stratified tissues from one another and for the separation of upper and lower tissues without injuring them as well as for joining and cauterizing tissues in open and closed surgeries. The present invention particularly relates to a transparent sheath (20) compatible with a dissection apparatus (10) like forceps and/or surgical scissors. More specifically, the present invention is a transparent sheath (20) compatible with a dissection apparatus (10) that comprises a joint in at least one point, and two dissection apparatus shanks (11) that move closer and away from one another based on said joint, that is sheathed from the distal ends of the dissection apparatus (12) of said dissection apparatus shanks (11) and that comes to an end at any point on the apparatus shank (11) until the proximal end of the dissection apparatus (13) or before reaching the proximal end of the dissection apparatus (13), and that allows the dissection apparatus (10) to perform respective motions without any restrictions. The distal end of the dissection apparatus (12) is either the blunt or the tapered end portion where the dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) of the dissection apparatus (10) reach to an end, and the end that is in close proximity of the joint where the distal apparatus shanks (11) of the dissection apparatus (10) are joined together and where the respective motion is performed is defined as the proximal end of the dissection apparatus (13).
Transparent sheath (20) is preferably manufactured from a non-conductive, flexible, taut, and latex material, and comprises two fixation ends (21) that are going to run through each of the dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) of the dissection apparatus (10). The aforementioned two fixation ends (21) have hollow structures so that dissection apparatus shanks may pass therethrough. Said fixation ends (21) of the inventive transparent sheath (20) comprise a shank canal (25) such that dissection apparatus shanks (11) of the dissecting apparatus (10) may enter from the distal end of the dissection apparatus (12) and advance towards the proximal end of the dissection apparatus (13). Said shank canal (25) extends from the fixation proximal end (23) to the fixation distal end (22) of each of the fixation ends (21 ). Fixation proximal end (23)
is the end that is located in close proximity of the proximal end (13) of dissection apparatus shank (11 ) of the dissection apparatus (10), whereas the fixation distal end (22) is the end that is located in close proximity of distal end (12) of dissection apparatus shank (11) of the dissection apparatus (10). The proximal end (21) of each of the fixation ends (21) of the inventive transparent sheath (20) has a wider diameter when compared to the fixation distal end (22). Fixation ends (21) that have a geometrical form compatible with dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) such that it covers the dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) of the dissection apparatus (10) and shank canals (25) located therein are provided with gradually decreasing diameters just like fixation ends (21) in order to ensure that they do not dislocate from dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) without being subjected to a certain amount of force. Shank canal (25) that begins at the fixation proximal end (23) of the fixation ends (21 ) has a diameter that gradually decreases towards the fixation distal end (22) of the fixation end (20). The present invention comprises a sheath interface (24) that is positioned between two fixation ends (21) of the inventive transparent sheath (20), and that allows for connecting two fixation ends (21 ) to one another. As said sheath interface (24) may be a flat surface between the two fixation ends (21 ), it may also be a surface furled around rotatable shafts positioned at the fixation ends (21), wherein said surface may feature a structure that enables the surface to unfurl from rotatable shafts and turn into a flat surface when dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) of the dissection apparatus (10) move away from one another. In another embodiment of the present invention, sheath interface (24) interface is manufactured from a non-conductive, flexible, taut and transparent latex material, and has a structure such that it becomes a flat surface when the two dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) move away from one another, and assumes a folded shape, and remains between dissection apparatus shanks (11 ) when the two dissection apparatus shanks (11) move closer to each other. Said sheath interface (24) renders the underlying tissue visible while the surgeon is performing dissection during an open or closed surgery, thereby preventing any potential accidents from occurring. The inventive transparent sheath (20) of the dissection apparatus (10) developed according to the present invention preferably has a light, transparent plastic structure that may easily be processed, cut, and punctured.
Although the inventive transparent sheath (20) of the dissection apparatus (10) developed according to the present invention is preferably applied to dissectors, it may also be used with any hand-operated surgical instrument that has a structure comprising two shanks, and that has a tapered or blunt point.
