Definitions
- the present invention relates to a prosthesis which is generally used in orthopedic wrist operations, is attached to the wrist of the patients whose wrist joint does not perform its task and performs the task of the natural wrist joint in a more efficient manner.
- the invention is an orthopedic product which can be used for the reconstruction of the defects that occur due to distal radius and/or any reason in the carpal bones .
- the invention particularly relates to an orthopedic prosthesis in the medical field which is designed for eliminating the painful joint deformations caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, tumor, fracture etc .
- the prosthesis applications made specific to the symptoms experienced by the patient can eliminate these difficulties.
- the prostheses are artificial products which can be used instead of any organ or tissue which are absent in the body.
- the prosthesis in orthopedic applications is generally described as an implant which is located into the bone or on the surface of the same by surgery in order to replace a diseased joint or a joint that lost its integrity .
- various prostheses are used in order to eliminate the damage in large bone defects that occur in wrist, in the tumoral or traumatic, degenerative applications. In the applications known in the art, there is no such a prosthesis which can be used tumoral or traumatic, degenerative at once .
- suture holes In the state of the art, there are no suture holes on the anatomical radial component dorsal surface.
- the suture holes especially in traumatic situations, assist to eliminate the risk of bone tissue remaining on the prosthesis or occurrence of adhesions between the prosthesis and the tendon.
- connection of the radial shaft and the radial metaphyseal is enabled with the screw system in the modular systems.
- the screw system leads to a reduction in the stem diameter, affects the resistance of the stem negatively and leads to the risk of early loosening in the rotational (rotation) movements that will occur in time.
- a reduction in diameter and insufficiency in strength occurs in the modular stems which provides connection with the screw and early loosening risk in rotational (rotation) movements occurs.
- the prostheses applied to the wrist have a more plain and single-plan surface. These conditions limit the movement area of the wrist after prosthetic surgery.
- the aim of the invention is to eliminate the painful joint deformations caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, tumor, fracture etc. in the medical field and to enable the wrist appearance to be similar to the real by means of the prosthesis serving as a joint.
- the problem can be solved at once with one wrist prosthesis set with the invention.
- suture holes on the anatomical radial component dorsal surface there is one or a plurality of suture holes on the anatomical radial component dorsal surface. Especially in traumatic situations, the risk of bone tissue remaining on the prosthesis or occurrence of adhesions between the prosthesis and the tendon is eliminated by means of the holes on the anatomic radial component dorsal surface that enables the suture passages.
- the invention has a design that is suitable for the anatomic radial component metaphyseal region sigmoid notch, it can be used when necessary in a manner that can mimic the distal radioulnar joint.
- the carpal component in the invention is fixed to the metacarpals except for the metal back, stem with the lock screws. This situation eliminates the early loosening risk by means of increasing the stability (durability) of the carpal component .
- connection of the radial shaft and the radial metaphyseal is provided with the conical intertwinement system in the modular stems. Therefore, the stability (durability) of the stem increases and the risk of early loosening that will occur with micro movements in time decreases .
- the radial stems in the invention are designed by using two different coating methods such that they are suitable for both cemented and cementless applications. This provides an option for the stem which will be used in the surgical process based on the current bone stock of the patient and decreases the risk of early loosening in rotational (rotation) movements.
- the polyethylene carpal bearing in the invention is designed to mimic the real anatomy of the wrist carpal bones.
- the polyethylene carpal bearing which can be produced in different sizes and dimensions can mimic the condition of the carpal bones by means of the scaphoid, lunatum, triquetrum. This situation also contributes to the stability (durability) of the prosthesis after the implantation of the prosthesis.
- this product which is an orthopedic prosthesis and its components to be used in the reconstruction of the defects occur as a result of the distal radius and/or any reason in carpal bones, are shown in the attached figures.

- the carpal component (1) included in Figures 3a, 3b, 3c comprises at least two screw holes (1.3) with different diameters, grooved shaft (1.1) and nail. The risk of loosening of the prosthesis due to the movement of the hand is eliminated by means of the locked screws used in the carpal component (1) .
- the polyethylene carpal bearing (2) included in Figures 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e can be produced and used in different sizes and different thicknesses. Therefore, it can be adapted to different joint sizes.
- the spherical protrusions (2.2) on the surface of the polyethylene carpal bearing (2) provides movement range suitable to the carpal bone anatomy and stability (durability) after implantation.
- the cementless modular stem (4) included in Figure 6a and the cemented modular stem (5) included in Figure 6b provides cementless compression with the shaft section channel profile (4.1) and coated round profile (5.1) .
- the modular stems are applied to the radius bone.
- the male taper (4.2) on the base of the cementless modular stem and the male taper (5.2) on the base of the cemented stem provide the connection between the anatomic radial component (3) and the stems.
- the extension part (6) included in Figure 7a, 7b, 7c are used in articulation or tumoral applications.
- the female taper (6.1) on the base of the extension part provides the conical connection between the cementless and cemented modular stems (4,5) and the extension part (6) .
- the male taper (6.2) on the upper portion of the extension piece provides the connection between the anatomic radial component (3) and the extension piece (6) .
- rotation pin (6.3) is a rotation pin (6.3) on the upper portion of the extension piece (6) in order to prevent the rotation.
- the round profile extension piece (7) included in the Figures 8a, 8b is used in tumor cases.
- the female taper (7.1) on the base of the round profile extension part provides the conical connection between the cementless and cemented modular stems (4,5) and round profile extension part (7) .
- the prosthesis can be located to the third metacarpal bone by means of being centered to the capitatum bone and fixed without cement by means of the grooved shaft (1.1) on the base of the carpal component (1) and the locked screws.
- the polyethylene carpal b earing (2) and the carpal component (1) are locked to each other by means of the nail (2.3) located on the base of the polyethylene carpal bearing (2) and the nails (1.2) located on the side portions of the carpal component (1) .
- the female taper (3.4) on the base of the anatomic radial component (3) provides the conical connection between the cementless modular stem (4) or cemented modular stem (5) and the anatomic radial component (3) ( Figure 1) .
- extension piece (6) and round profile extension piece (7) can be used between the anatomic radial component (3) and the cementless modular stem (4) or cemented modular stem (5) .
