Abstract

A cosmetic device (1) comprising: a base (2) comprising at least one first cosmetic composition, a cover (3) pivotably connected to the base (2) between a closed position and an open position, and a tray (15) carrying at least one second cosmetic composition, the tray (15) being pivotably connected to a side (9) of the base (2) between an open position giving a user access to the at least one second cosmetic composition and a closed position where the tray (15) is facing the base (2) and is prevented from pivoting in the open position by the cover (3) when the latter is in the closed position.

Cosmetic assembly

Field of the invention

The present invention relates to a cosmetic device, in particular for the makeup of keratinous materials, especially but not limited to the skin and/or eyelids, of the type having a base housing a cosmetic composition and a cover articulated to the base between a closed position and an open position, the cosmetic device also housing at least one second cosmetic composition.

Background of the invention

WO 2008/130790 discloses a cosmetic container, said container being a compact for storing a plurality of cosmetics and including a tray for storing cosmetics on first and second sides theroeof, a base having a pair of hinge pins received by the tray, the tray pivoting in the hinge from a first position making the first side accessible to a user to a second position making the second side accessible to the user.

US 6 619 297 discloses a cosmetic case including a frame unit and a stack of trays for storing cosmetic items, the trays being pivotally mounted on the frame unit, and being turnable about a single axis to move between a closed position in which the trays are aligned with each other and an open position in which the trays are out of alignment from each other.

There exists a need to benefit from a new cosmetic device housing several cosmetic compositions, said device being convenient to use, having a compact design, and being nice to look at.

Summary of the invention

Cosmetic device

According to one aspect, the invention provides a cosmetic device comprising:

- a base comprising at least one first cosmetic composition,

- a cover pivotably connected to the base between a closed position and an open position, and

- a tray carrying at least one second cosmetic composition, the tray being pivotably connected to a side of the base between an open position giving a user access to the at least one second cosmetic composition and a closed position where the tray is facing the base and is prevented from pivoting in the open position by the cover when the latter is in the closed position.

By virtue of the invention, it is possible to house at least two different cosmetic compositions in two different housings of the device, in a compact and convenient manner.

The cover and the tray advantageously pivot around respective articulation axes that are perpendicular to each other.

The base may comprise a housing accommodating the tray when the latter is in the closed position. This allows a compact configuration of the device in the closed position of the cover.

The base may be configured to maintain the tray in the closed position when the cover is opened, until the user forces manually the tray to pivot. This gives the user the choice to open or not the tray when the cover is in the open position. In such case, the tray may be retained in the closed position by friction or by snap fastening of the tray in the base or by in any other way.

Alternatively, the tray is freely pivotable so as to pivot into the open position under the effect of its own weight as soon as the cover is opened. This provides instantly the user a choice between all the cosmetic compositions.

The tray may comprise a salient edge protruding from the base when the tray is in the closed position. In such case, the cover may comprise a skirt that overlaps said salient edge when the cover is in the closed position to prevent the tray from pivoting in the open position. The salient edge preferably comprises two bosses separated by a central recess. The salient edge preferably has an undulating profile. The salient edge may have other shapes.

Thanks to the salient edge, the tray can be maintained by the cover in the closed position thereof. Furthermore, the salient edge can form a member that a user can handle to open or close the tray.

The tray has in the closed position an exposed surface of an appearance that is similar to the appearance of at least one side of the base adjacent the tray. The device in the closed position of the cover therefore conceals the tray.

The tray has for example a width substantially equal to a height of a side of the base. This width of the tray does not include the width of the salient edge, if any.

The tray may comprise at least two compartments, each of them housing a second cosmetic composition. The tray may comprise more than two compartments for housing more than two cosmetic compositions.

The first cosmetic composition and the at least one second cosmetic composition may be of different colors and/or formulations.

The first cosmetic composition is for example a foundation and the at least one second cosmetic composition is at least one of an eye-shadow and/or a blush.

The first cosmetic composition may comprise several cosmetic compositions housed in the case.

The device may comprise a puff holder articulated to the base around an articulation axis, which is preferably parallel to the articulation axis of the tray, preferably that is opposite the tray. The device may comprise an applicator, such as a puff, for the application of at least one of the cosmetic compositions.

The tray may be articulated on the base near a bottom edge of the base.

The base for example comprises a body with an opened bottom, to which the tray is articulated, and an insert accommodated in the body and defining a housing for receiving a cup defining a reservoir for the first cosmetic composition.

Make-up method

The invention also relates, according to another aspect, to a make-up method using a cosmetic device as defined above, comprising :

- opening the cover,

- opening the tray, if necessary,

- making-up with the first and/or the at least one second cosmetic compositions, possibly using at least one puff or another applicator that is housed or not within the device,

- closing the tray,

- closing the cover.

Detailed description of the drawings

In the following, identical elements or elements having equivalent functions bear same reference signs. Their description may not be repeated for each of the figures as only the main differences between the embodiments may be highlighted.

Figures 1 to 4 show an embodiment of a cosmetic device 1 according to the invention, comprising a case 2 and a cover 3 pivotably connected to the base 2 between a closed position shown in figure 1 and an open position shown in figure 2. In this example, the cosmetic device 1 has an overall substantially polygonal shape when viewed from above, for example a square shape. The base 2 houses a first cosmetic composition C _1.

The base 2 may house several first cosmetic compositions without departing from the scope of the present invention.

The cosmetic device 1 also comprises a tray 15 carrying at least one second cosmetic composition C ₂.

The tray 15 is pivotably connected to a side of the base 2 between an open position, shown in figure 3, giving a user access to the at least one second cosmetic composition and a closed position, shown in figure 2, where the tray 15 is facing the base 2 and is prevented to pivot into the open position by the cover 3 when the latter is in the closed position, as shown in figure 1.

In this example, as shown in figure 4, the base 2 comprises a body 11 with an opened bottom, to which the tray 15 is articulated. The base 2 also comprises an insert 14 accommodated in the body 11 and defining a housing for receiving a cup 10 defining a reservoir for the first cosmetic composition C ₁.

The tray 15 comprises at least one compartment 25 for containing said second composition. In this example, the tray 15 carries two cosmetic compositions C ₂₁ and C ₂₂ in two separates compartments 25. The compartments 25 and/or these compositions may be identical or not. In this example, the compartments 25 are identical, of rectangular shape. They are positioned adjacent to one another in the tray 15, one of their small sides being placed adjacent to one another, in a parallel manner.

The cover 3 is pivotably connected to the base 2 around an articulation axis X as shown in figures 2, 3 and 4, at one side 4 of the base 2.

On a side 5 of the base 2, opposite to the side 4 and parallel thereto, the base 2 comprises a push-button 6 provided, on an upper edge thereof, with a locking tab 7 for locking or unlocking the cover 3. The base 2 comprises another side 8 linking the

4 and 5, extending perpendicularly thereto.

A fourth side 9 of the base 2, opposite and parallel to the side 8, is facing the tray 15 when the latter is in the closed position. This side 9 is set back relative to the side of the cosmetic device 1, which side is formed by an external surface 16 of the tray 15 when the cover 3 is in the closed position, as shown in figure 1, or when the cover 3 is in the open position but the tray 15 is in the closed position, as shown in figure 2.

The side 9 is parallel in this example to the external surface 16 of the tray 15. The fact that the side 9 is set back provides a housing 26 accommodating the tray 15 when the latter is in the closed position. In this example, the tray 15 has in the closed position an exposed surface, which is the external surface 16, of an appearance that is similar to the one of the side 5 of the base 2 adjacent the tray 15. The external surface 16 of the tray 15 is perpendicular to the

4 and 5 of the base 2, when the tray 15 is in the closed position.

The tray 15 is pivotably connected to the side 9 of the base 2 around an articulation axis Y perpendicular to the articulation axis X, as shown in figures 3 and 4, in this example near a bottom edge 23 of the side 9.

The insert 14 comprises an upper surface 13 surrounding the cup 10.

The cup 10 is covered in this example by an internal cover 12, which may tightly close the cup 10. The internal cover 12 is pivotably connected to the upper surface 13, near the side 8 of the base 2, at an articulation 17, around an articulation axis Z, shown in figures 2 to 4. The articulation axis Z is in this example perpendicular to articulation axis X and parallel to articulation axis Y. The internal cover 12 is also a puff holder for housing an applicator of the composition (s) . In this example, the applicator is not shown.

As shown in figure 4, in this embodiment, the upper surface 13 of the insert 14 defines an opening 19 for receiving the cup 10. The insert 14 also comprises a cylindrical skirt 18 configured for surrounding the cylindrical wall 19 of the cup 10. The insert 14 also comprises the side 9 facing the tray 15 in the closed position thereof.

The body 11 of the base 2 includes the

4, 5 and 8 and a lower surface 20 forming an opened bottom, defining an opening 21 for the cup 10, the tray 15 being articulated to this opened bottom.

The base 2 also includes the push-button 6 and the locking tab 7.

In the example of figures 1 to 4, the base 2 is configured to maintain the tray 15 in the closed position when the cover 3 is opened, as shown in figure 2, until the user forces manually the tray 15 to pivot. The tray 15 is retained in the closed position by friction of the tray 15 in the base 2. It could be retained by snap fastening or in any other manner without departing from the scope of the invention.

In the device 1 of figures 1 to 4, the tray 15 comprises a salient edge 30 protruding from the base 2 when the tray 15 is in the closed position. The cover 3 comprises a skirt 31 that overlaps the salient edge 30 when the cover 3 is in the closed position to prevent the tray 15 from pivoting in the open position. The skirt 31 may define a side of the cover 3, as is the case in the example of figures 1 to 4 or in the example of figures 5 and 6.

In the example of figures 1 to 4, the salient edge 30 comprises two bosses 32 separated by a central recess 33, the salient edge 30 having an undulating profile.

The tray 15 has a width w substantially equal to a height h of the side 5 of the base. This width w does not include the width of the salient edge 31.

As can be seen in figure 1, the cosmetic device 1 does not make the tray 15 apparent when the device 1 is closed. It is only when the cover 3 is opened that the salient edge 30 of the tray 15 is visible to the user, as shown in figure 2, and only when the tray 15 is open that the compositions carried by the tray become accessible to the user, as shown in figure 3.

The first cosmetic composition C ₁ and the at least one second cosmetic composition C ₂₁ or C ₂₂ may be of different colors and/or formulations. In this example, the first cosmetic composition C ₁ is a foundation and the cosmetic composition C ₂₁ and C ₂₂ are at least one of an eyeshadow and/or a blush of different colors.

When the tray 15 is in the closed position, the bottom of the cup 10, which has a flat shape in this embodiment, and the bottom of compartments 25, are substantially perpendicular to one another. When the tray 15 is in the open position, the bottom of the cup 10 and the bottom of the compartments 25 are substantially in a same plane or in parallel planes.

The cup 10 and the compartments 25 are not superposed to each other nor are aligned. The cup 10 may have a shape other than circular. It may be square-or rectangular-shaped.

In figures 5 and 6, the tray 15 is freely pivotable so as to pivot into the open position under the effect of its own weight when the cover 3 is opened.

The thickness of the salient edge 31 and the thickness of the skirt 31 of the cover 3 are, together, substantially equal to the thickness of the tray, as shown in figure 6. The external surface 16 of the tray 15 is in the same plane as the external surface of the skirt 31 of the cover 3.

Claims

A cosmetic device (1) comprising:

‐ a base (2) comprising at least one first cosmetic composition (C ₁) ,

‐ a cover (3) pivotably connected to the base (2) between a closed position and an open position, and

‐ a tray (15) carrying at least one second cosmetic composition (C ₂₁, C ₂₂) , the tray (15) being pivotably connected to a side (9) of the base (2) between an open position giving a user access to the at least one second cosmetic composition (C ₂₁, C ₂₂) and a closed position where the tray (15) is facing the base (2) and is prevented from pivoting in the open position by the cover (3) when the latter is in the closed position.
The device (1) of claim 1, wherein the cover (3) and the tray (15) pivot around respective articulation axes (X; Y) that are perpendicular to each other.
The device (1) of claim 1 or 2, the base (2) comprising a housing (26) accommodating the tray (15) when the latter is in the closed position.
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3, the base (2) being configured to maintain the tray (15) in the closed position when the cover (3) is opened, until the user forces manually the tray (15) to pivot.
The device (1) of claim 4, the tray (15) being retained in the closed position by friction or by snap fastening of the tray (15) in the base (2) .
The device (1) of any one of claims 1 to 3, the tray (15) being freely pivotable so as to pivot into the open position under the effect of its own weight when the cover (3) is opened.
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 6, the tray (15) comprising a salient edge (30) protruding from the base (2) when the tray (15) is in the closed position, and the cover (3) comprising a skirt (31) that overlaps said salient edge (30) when the cover (3) is in the closed position to prevent the tray (15) from pivoting in the open position, the salient edge (30) preferably comprising two bosses (32) separated by a central recess (33) , the salient edge (30) preferably having an undulating profile.
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 7, the tray (15) having in the closed position an exposed surface of an appearance that is similar to the appearance of at least one side (5) of the base (2) adjacent the tray (15) .
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 8, the tray (15) having a width substantially equal to a height of a side (5) of the base (2) .
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 9, the tray (15) comprising at least two compartments (25) , each of them housing a cosmetic composition (C ₂₁, C ₂₂) .
The device according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the first cosmetic composition (C ₁) and the at least one second cosmetic composition (C ₂₁, C ₂₂) are of different colors and/or formulations.
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein the first cosmetic composition (C ₁) is a foundation and the at least one second cosmetic composition (C ₂₁, C ₂₂) at least one of an eyeshadow and/or blush.
The device (1) according to any of the preceding claims, comprising a puff holder (12) articulated to the base (2) around an articulation axis (Z) , which is preferably parallel to the articulation axis (Y) of the tray, preferably that is opposite the tray (15) .
The device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 13, the tray (15) being articulated on the base (2) near a bottom edge of the base (2) .
The device (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the base (2) comprises a body (11) with an opened bottom, to which the tray (15) is articulated, and an insert (14) accommodated in the body (11) and defining a housing for receiving a cup (10) defining a reservoir for the first cosmetic composition (C ₁) .
