Abstract

Sun loungers and massage tables are supplemented with a clip-on device, which has a padded ring portion for to hold the user's head for free breathing in prone position while it allows unobstructed view on a book, drink, mobile phone or computer tablet, to be placed on a socket or tray below. Furthermore, headphone-type miniature loudspeakers can be used for additional musical enjoyment.

Headrest for Sunbeds

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Sun bathing for many is to the best relaxation and recovery, for mood enhancement and improved infection control by thus causing melatonin and vitamin D secretion within the body. An important aspect is, of course, the tinting and improvement of the complexion, which makes the appearance - according to European standards - healthier and more attractive. This tanning inevitably is performed to a good extent in prone position, which by many - es- pecially corpulent and very bony people - is sensually unpleasant after some time, even laid on lawns, in sea sand or on soft cushions.

In particular, the bedding of the head then is a problem: it must either be twisted to one side, or it results in an unpleasant pressure on the sensitive parts of the face, e.g. nose and forehead.

For massage tables, where even an additional pressure on the head / shoulder area is to be coped with, therefore an annular cushioned head ring is common as a head rest.

However, for massages there is less time needed, while hours are often spent in the tanning. Accordingly, the latter is done - depending on mentality - rather in a semi-sleep-like rest position and possibly with a smartphone and headphones.

The mentally demanding would rather like to read. But laying there and keeping a book in sight and turning pages will soon make your arms go limp, and looking at a screen against the sun is difficult, even when lying on your back and nearly impossible when lying prone. Side position is also unpleasant for many and unfavorable in terms of browning.

PRIOR ART

There are quite a few sun loungers and massage tables known, some even with annular headrest, that would allow to lie in prone position more easily, as seen from TecTake [1] und Napio [2].

However, those are only made with a headrest enlarging the reclining area, they are not for retrofitting and not yet known on sun loungers.

Attempts to fix a headrest of this kind to an existing massage bed or sun lounger sofar obviously have failed, since the resulting overhang with its leverage provokes instability of the whole bed and implies a heavy load to the attachments.

However, there are many couches, with an optionally adjustable, angled head part, such as in DE 20201 7006 070 U1 and USD 515.324S1

Similarly, the idea of an additional back or head restraint is also disclosed in EP 2 639 101 B1 , but based on a support on the lying surface, which allows only for better sitting, as well as in US 4,673,216A and US 5,029,350A, which are more like a back support for sitting positions on the floor. Moreover, numerous headrests for sedentary posture are known, including some for retrofitting, such as for vehicles, that are more a continuation of the backrest.

However, there are no additionally mountable devices known for improved comfort in prone position

TASK OF THE INVENTION

It is therefore object of the present invention to allow a longer-term prone position without loss of comfort and to be implemented on most kinds of massage tables and sun loungers.

SOLUTION

This is achieved by the use of a head mount, similar to those on massage tables, which is attached to sunbeds by simply clamping it on. It allows the unobstructed regarding of a cell phone screen, computer tablet or book in prone position.

The inventive step therefore is to use universal clamping devices, that can be locked to almost all kinds of frames, together with the application of a telescopic support arm, that can be extended to hold the headrest in level or in a desired angle to the ground it is based on. Therefore the torus is padded with cushions, that support the head around the forehead and on the sides.

The cushions contain recesses for small near-field loudspeakers (13a and 13b), which create an optimal sound field on ears in prone or dorsal position, without the isolating effect of headphones.

The headrest is supported by a pedestal, a pillar that may carry a holder for book or screen, adjustable for best viewing in prone position.

The connection between the lying surface and the headrest can then be executed with simple clamp holders that need to resist to only small bending forces and therefore can easily be attached to the edge of many different loungers.

As to this embodiment, the pedestal piller is adjustable with locking rails to a desired height of the headrest.

Moreover, there is a problem with prone position, to rest one’s arms somewhere conveniently. Therefore hand or arm pads are provided in the present invention, which can be folded out laterally under the head pad. FURTHER DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE DRAWINGS

Fig. 1 shows the structure of the headrest on a sun lounger (1 ) in an overview: The open-annular cushion (2), mounted on a flat, open support ring (18, see Fig. 2) can be fastened with clamping jaws (5a and 5b) to the frame of different kinds of sun loungers or massage tables. For stabilizing the headrest, a support column (3), containing telescopically extensible sections (21a, 21 b in Fig. 4), is fastened by a hinge (20) to the underside of the support ring (18).

Said support column may have one or more ftray-like holders (4), fixed in height by flangelike attachments which represent trays for book, computer tablet, drinks or mobile phones.

On said support column (3), its extensions (21a and 21 b) and trays are adjustable in height and can be locked into notches, (22 and 23) as seen in Fig. 4.

In addition, a sunshade (9) can be mounted with its holding arm (8) on a hinged clip (20) to the support column (3).

The top side of this sunshade may contain solar cells, which can supply energy for gadgetry, that e.g. drive the loudspeakers (13a and 13b), built in the cushion.

Figure 2 shows the annular support (18) from the bottom. Here the locking rails (19a and 19b) on the clamping devices (5a and 5b) can better be recognized, by which the height adjustment of the head portion is effected.

Here the telescopic support column, as well as the tray (4) are shown folded and secured on hinge (20).

Furthermore, bracings (12 and 14) to the annular support (18) are demonstrated.

The pad (2) also provides a hidden pocket (6) for personal items to be protected during possible sleep or walk to the pool or beach.

Fig. 3 shows the annular support (18) in top view. It demonstrates the push buttons for attaching the upholstery (17a and 17b), on top and those (16a to 16d) at the bottom, by which the cushion can be set narrower or wider, as to the head shape of the user.

Claims

1. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers (1), comprising an open-annular head pad (2) which is attached to a flat support ring (18 in Fig., 2) that is mountable and adjustable to different couches (7) with clamping devices (5a, 5b).

2. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 , wherein the height adjustment of the support ring is effected with locking rails (19a, 19b) which connect the support ring to the clamping devices.

3. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 , wherein the support ring contains fold-out hand rests (15a, 15b) for bearing the forearms or hands of the user.

4. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 , wherein the support ring (18) is additionally based on a telescopically adjustable (21 a and 22b in Fig.4) support leg (3).

5. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 , wherein the head pad (2) can be fixed with push-buttons on top (17a. 17b) and bottom (16a -16d) of the support ring.

6. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 5, wherein each two of the lower 4 push-buttons (16 a - 16c) can be selected so to adjust the opening width of the pad (2) as to the size of the user’s head.

7. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 3, wherein the support leg has pegged-on tray-like holders (4) for books, display monitors or drinks.

8. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 and 5, wherein the padding contains an inconspicuous pocket (6) for valuables.

9. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 1 , wherein the padding contains near-field loudspeakers (13a, 13b ).

10. Headrest for massage tables and sun loungers as to claim 2, wherein the support leg inherits a fastening device atop to carry the holder (8) of a sun visor (9) above.
