- Annular preventers advantageously can seal varying size of pipe as compared to a ram type BOP.
- Many BOP stacks contain one or more annular preventers at the top of the stack. If a kick or blow out is detected or determined imminent, the annular preventer may be closed first prior to ram BOPs.

Abstract
L'invention concerne un obturateur anti-éruption (BOP) qui peut sceller un puits de forage pour commander et surveiller des puits de pétrole et de gaz. Le BOP est un obturateur annulaire de type à verrou comprenant un corps, un intérieur, un piston et un élément de bouchage en caoutchouc. L'obturateur assure l'étanchéité autour du tube de forage et, dans certains cas, contre un trou de forage ouvert.
