Description

LOCK MOUNTING SYSTEM AND ASSEMBLY METHOD THEREOF
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to two wheeled vehicles and, more particularly, to a system of mounting a lock and a method of assembling the lock of a two wheeled vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Two wheelers typically include a frame that is designed to act as a base onto which various components are attached. Typically, the frame carries the power unit, such as the internal combustion engine, and various body members, such as fuel tank, vehicle seat etc. In addition, wheels, front fender, rear fender, side panels, vehicle seat etc. are also supported on the frame either directly or indirectly. Further, a fender seat lock is also provided on side of the vehicle to lock the vehicle seat in its place. Typically, the fender seat lock includes a key access portion visible from the side of the vehicle, a lock latch mounted on the frame underneath the vehicle seat, and a lock cable connecting the key access portion and the lock latch.
[0003] In order to assemble the seat lock on the vehicle, one end of the lock cable is required to be connected to the lock latch. Subsequently, a second end of the lock cable is required to be connected to the key access portion. However, typically the points at which the connections of the ends of the lock cable are to be made are often relatively inaccessible. Therefore, the installation and assembly of the seat lock, takes considerable time, and often proves to be quite difficulty. Further, even in case of servicing and repair, uninstallation and disassembly of the seat lock is difficult, time consuming and cumbersome. SUMMARY
[0004] In one aspect of the present invention, a lock mounting system of a vehicle is provided. The lock mounting system comprising: a frame member comprising, a first seat frame, a second seat frame, and a bridge coupled to each of the first seat frame and the second seat frame; a lock comprising, a locking member positioned on a bottom surface of the bridge, and a connecting cable connected to the locking member, a lock actuating member adapted to be coupled to a rear fender of the vehicle, the locking actuating member being connected to the connecting cable.
[0005] In an embodiment, the rear fender includes a body portion, an opening on a first side of the body portion, and an alignment member on a second side of the body portion.
[0006] In an embodiment, the rear fender further includes a connecting cable guiding provision. At least one of the first seat frame and the second seat frame includes an alignment mount. Further, the alignment mount is provided on the second seat frame. The alignment mount is adapted to receive the alignment member of the rear fender.
[0007] In an embodiment, the opening of the rear fender is adapted to receive the lock actuating member. The connecting cable guiding provision of the rear fender is adapted to engage the connecting cable. [0008] Therefore, the lock mounting system of the present invention reduces time required for mounting a lock, such as a seat lock, on the vehicle. Further, the lock mounting system of the present invention reduces effort involved in mounting the lock on the vehicle. Specifically, the present invention provides the locking member, being connected to the bridge, the connecting cable being coupled to the locking member, and the lock actuating member being connected to the connecting cable, and they are preassembled, and are a part of the frame of the vehicle. Therefore, a need for coupling the connecting cable with the locking member, and a need for coupling the connecting cable with the lock actuating member, during assembly of the vehicle (10), for example on assembly line of the vehicle, is avoided
[0009] In another aspect of the present invention method of assembly of a lock of a vehicle is provided. The vehicle comprising: a frame member having a first seat frame, a second seat frame, and a bridge; a lock having a locking member positioned on a bottom surface of the bridge, and a connecting cable connected to the locking member; and a lock actuating member. The method comprising: engaging an alignment member of a rear fender with an alignment mount on the second seat frame, moving the rear fender engaged with the alignment mount to align the lock actuating member with an opening on the rear fender, and inserting the lock actuating member into the opening on the rear fender. The method of assembly of the lock of the vehicle further comprises, engaging the connecting cable with the connecting cable guiding provision on the rear fender.
[00010] Therefore, the method provided by the present disclosure substantially reduces the time required and effort involved in assembling the lock on the frame and fender of the vehicle. Specifically, by precluding the need to manually engage the first engaging tab of the inner cable with the connecting portion of the locking member, the present invention substantially reduces the time and effort required for assembly and installation of the lock. Further, the method provided by the present disclosure also substantially reduces the time required and effort involved in disassembly and repair of the lock of the vehicle.
