Description

AN ADJUSTABLE SUPPORTING SYROFOAM
DESCRIPTION
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a supporting styrofoam, which is used to protect particularly the air conditioner indoor unit against impacts coming from the middle part, and which can be adapted to products of different sizes by means of its adjustable structure. Background of the Invention
In the state of the art, use of styrofoam is frequently preferred for packaging the indoor and outdoor units of air conditioners. The styrofoam supports, which enable the products to be kept in a certain position within the packaging boxes, have to be in different sizes for products having different designs and sizes. This causes difficulty in terms of both cost and stock tracking.
In the current air conditioner packaging, in addition to the styrofoam supports placed on both sides, i.e. right and left sides, of the unit, a cardboard support having styrofoam glued on both sides thereof is used in the middle part of the unit. The middle support cardboard is used to protect the air conditioning indoor unit against impacts to the middle part and different sizes of supporting styrofoam are used because of different sizes of different models. The cardboard support requires additional labor due to the fact that it is a structure specially produced by gluing styrofoam on both ends of the cardboard. In addition, since the cardboard support cannot fully grip the filter and the decor in the air conditioner unit, it is observed that the filter and the decor are displaced in the drop test which is carried out to determine the adverse situations that may occur during the transfer of the package. The Chinese utility model document no. CN208022085U, an application known in the state of art, discloses a protective structure for packaging of an air conditioner indoor unit. The packaging structure of the invention has a buffer arrangement comprised of an elastic member and a cushion. The elastic member is placed inside a housing and the cushion connected to the other end of the elastic member continuously applies a pushing force. Thus, the effect of hitting the ground can be buffered and deformation can be prevented.
The Chinese utility model document no. CN202624959U, an application known in the state of art, discloses a packaging bottom support assembly for air conditioner. The foam plastic buffer supporting body of the bottom support of the invention can be used in packaged products with different sizes and thus the cost of producing new dies for products of different sizes is avoided.
The Chinese utility model document no. CN204038235, an application known in the state of art, discloses a packing structure and a packing case for air conditioner units. By means of the packing structure of the invention, the problems of high damage rate in the prior art during transportation can be solved.
The Japanese patent document no. JP2015193398, an application known in the state of the art, discloses a packing device for an air conditioner, which can be used in place of a curing sheet and the like.
Summary of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide cost advantage by using the same type of supporting styrofoam in air conditioner indoor units having different width and height.
Another objective of the invention is to ensure that the supporting styrofoam grips the product better thereby preventing the pieces of the product from getting displaced and broken during transportation and in cases of falling down, etc. A further objective of the invention is to provide the feature of common use of the supporting styrofoam for all models thanks to its adjustable design.

The adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention enables to support a white good product (U) (preferably air conditioner units) during packaging from the middle part thereof in addition to the right styrofoam support (R) and the left styrofoam support (L) that enable the product (U) to be supported from both sides thereof, and comprises
at least one movable female styrofoam (2) in the form of an inverted L shape, comprising at least one female vertical plate (21), which is positioned at the middle part of the product (U) between the two ends thereof supported by the right styrofoam support (R) and the left styrofoam support (L) so as to enable the product (U) to be supported from the lateral surface thereof, and which has an inner surface compatible with the lateral surface of the product (U) and extends towards the side surface of the product (U); and at least one female horizontal plate (22) which extends over the product (U) perpendicular to the said female horizontal plate (21),
at least one movable male styrofoam (3) in the form of an inverted L shape (symmetrical to the inverted L-shaped movable female styrofoam (2) in the vertical axis), comprising at least one male horizontal plate (32), which is positioned so as to support the product (U) by applying pressure from the surface opposite to the surface where the movable female styrofoam (2) supports the product (U), and extends so as to fit over the female horizontal plate (22); and at least one male vertical plate (31) that extends perpendicular to the male horizontal plate (32) enabling to support the surface of the product (U) which is opposite to the side surface supported by the female vertical plate (31),
at least one protrusion (33); which is located on the male horizontal plate (32) of the movable male styrofoam (3) and is inserted into at least one channel (23) that is on the corresponding female horizontal plate (22) and extends longitudinally between its end corresponding to the female vertical plate (21) and its end extending towards the male vertical plate (31); and which moves along the said channel (23) to enable the male horizontal plate (32) to make a regular movement on the female horizontal plate (22) when connecting the movable male styrofoam (3) to the movable female styrofoam (2) and compressing the product (U) therebetween,
at least one notch (34) in the form of a recess which, when the movement of inserting the protrusions (33) on the male horizontal plate (32) into the channels (23) on the female vertical plate (21) and advancing them therein for compressing the product (U) between the movable female styrofoam (2) and the movable male styrofoam (3) is finished (when the product (U) is compressed from its lateral surfaces), enables to easily break off the excessive part of the male horizontal plate (32) that exceeds the edge where the female horizontal plate (22) and the female vertical plate (21) meet (if the end of the male horizontal plate (32) that extends towards the movable female styrofoam (2) exceeds the edge where the female horizontal plate (22) and the female vertical plate (21) meet), and causes the wall thickness on the male horizontal plate (32) to be reduced, at least one notch (35) which is located on the end of the male vertical plate (31) extending towards the product (U) and which enables to easily break off the excessive part thereof in case its length is greater than the length of the product (U),
at least one notch (24) which is located on the end of the female vertical plate (21) extending towards the product (U) and which enables to easily break off the excessive part thereof in case its length is greater than the length of the product (U).
In one embodiment of the invention, the male horizontal plate (32) has a C section and the bent ends of this C section form the protrusions (33) that are inserted into the channels (23) provided on the female horizontal plate (22).
The adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention is comprised of one movable female styrofoam (2) and one movable male styrofoam (3). This movable female styrofoam (2) and movable male styrofoam (3) can be attached to each other by means of an interlocking structure comprising a channel (23) provided on the movable female styrofoam (2) and a protrusion (33), which is located on the movable male styrofoam (3) and can move within this channel (23) along the channel (23); and the distance therebetween can be adjusted according to the sizes of the product (U) that will be gripped. This movable female styrofoam (2) and movable male styrofoam (3), which are in the form of two inverted Ls arranged in vertical axis symmetry of each other, are compressed on the lateral surface of the product (U) therebetween. Thus, the product (U), which is supported at both ends thereof using a right styrofoam support (R) and a left styrofoam support (L), is enabled to be supported also at the middle part thereof.
In the adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention, unlike the conventional applications, instead of the application of cardboard support (K) used for supporting the air conditioner unit at the middle part, the feature of adjustability and common use for products (U) of different sizes is enabled. By means of the sliding structure of the movable female styrofoam (2) and the movable male styrofoam (3) constituting the invention, which structure is comprised of channels (23) provided on the female horizontal plate (22) of the movable female styrofoam (2) and the protrusions (33) that are located on the male horizontal plate (32) of the movable male styrofoam (3) and are inserted to the said channels (23); the movable male styrofoam (3) is enabled to be properly moved relative to the movable female styrofoam (2) and the movable male styrofoam (3) is enabled to be firmly fastened to the movable female styrofoam
(2) so as to form an integral structure. As a result of this movement, the size of the gap between the movable female styrofoam (2) and the movable male styrofoam
(3), which form an inverted U shape, can be adjusted and the adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention can be brought to the desired dimensions.
The adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention is brought to a form suitable to the product (U) upon being positioned around the product (U) and thus grips the lateral surface of the product (U), and then the idle parts of the styrofoam that are longer than the product (U) are broken thereby finalizing the obtaining the final form of the structure. Notches (24, 34 and 35) are used in order to perform the process of breaking and removing the abovementioned idle parts properly and by making the process easy for the operator. After engagement of the movable male styrofoam (3) to the movable female styrofoam (2), i.e. insertion of the protrusions (33) on the male vertical plate (31) into the channels (23) on the female vertical plate (21); the movement of the protrusions (33) in the channels (23) upon pushing the movable male styrofoam (3) towards the product (U) and/or the movable female styrofoam (2) ends when the male horizontal plate (32) of the movable male styrofoam (3) abuts the product (U) and/or the female vertical plate (21) of the movable female styrofoam (2). After the termination of this movement, if the end of the male horizontal plate (32) extending towards the movable female styrofoam (2) exceeds the edge where the female vertical plate (21) and the female horizontal plate (22) meet, then the remaining excess part of the male horizontal plate (32) is broken off. In order to facilitate this breaking off process, preferably a plurality of notches (34), which extend in compliance with this junction edge and which are in the form of recesses that reduce the wall thickness of the male horizontal plate (32), are positioned on the surface of the male horizontal plate (32). Thus, the operator performing the packaging can easily break off the male horizontal plate (32) from the notch (34) that determines the boundary of the part which is excessive, just like tightening a belt and aligning it through the hole on the proper position. Similarly, after the movement for connection of the movable female styrofoam (2) and the movable male styrofoam (3) is finished, if the obtained structure is higher than the height of the product
(U), the excess portion of the female vertical plate (21) and the excess portion of the vertical plate (31) can be broken off from the notches (24) on the female vertical plate (21) and the notches (35) on the male vertical plate (31), respectively, and thus a proper appearance can be provided.
By means of the adjustable supporting styrofoam (1) of the present invention, in addition to attaining cost advantage by using the same type of supporting styrofoam for products (U) having different width and height; the product is better gripped thereby preventing the pieces of the product from getting displaced and broken during transportation and in cases of falling down, etc. The product (U) to be packaged in the scope of the present invention is an air conditioner unit and the invention is developed particularly for air conditioner indoor units.
