Abstract

A wheelchair (1) for assisting with patient care comprises a frame (2); a seating means (23) configured to allow a user to sit thereon, the frame (2) and the seating means (23) configured and connected such that a user can sit in a normal seated position on the seating means (23) when the seating means (23) is connected to the frame (2); a back support (15) extending upwards from the rear of the frame (2) and configured to support the back of a user seated on the wheelchair (1); a raising and lowering means (13, 14) connected between the back support (15), the seat (23), and the frame (2); the raising and lowering means (13, 14), the back support (15), the seat (23), and the frame (2) all configured so that a user seated in/on the chair (1) can be raised from a seated position to a standing position, and/or lowered from a standing position to a seated position, with their back continuously supported by the back support (15).
