Abstract
The invention relates to a disposable cap (1) designed to fix a central venous catheter (3) placed in the jugular vein by means of a cord (2) located on its side. The objective of the invention to develop a disposable cap for fixing a central venous catheter placed on the jugular vein having a cord from the side.
Description
DISPOSABLE CATHETER FIXING CAP
Technical Field The invention relates to a cap which allows the catheter to be fixed by means of a cord thereon.
More particularly, the invention relates to a disposable cap designed to fix a central venous catheter placed on the jugular vein with a cord on its side.
Prior Art
Central venous catheterization is the process of placing a catheter of various characteristics into a central vein that rotates directly into the heart. This procedure is frequently used for various purposes such as fluid-electrolyte treatment, safe infusion of several drugs, transfusion of blood products, total parenteral nutrition and invasive pacing and monomerization of hemodynamic status. Central venous catheters can be applied to four different veins such as the subclavian, jugular, brachial and femoral.
Among these applications, the jugular vein is the most difficult to fix catheter in and is most susceptible to complications due to the procedure. After the jugular catheter intervention, the catheter is fixed to the skin by suture and covered with dressing material. There is currently no mechanism for fixing jugular catheter connections in clinical environments, yet.
Therefore, the catheter connections move freely in relation to the patient position and the dressing in the area is often opened. Thus, the catheter insertion zone can come in contact with the environment and the body fluids of the patient, which may lead to the risk of trauma and infection.
The prior art United States patent document Numbered US2336950 discloses a cap. A cord is provided along the edges of this cap. The size of the cap is adjusted by pulling the cord.
The United States patent document Numbered US2011272605 of the prior art refers to a cap which is developed to protect the user's head from radiation and contains radiation attenuating material. The cap comprises a cord at the back to be attached to the user's head.
The caps shown in the exemplary patent documents, which are already produced and in use, are only used for collecting the hair of the patient. Therefore, a cap which enables to fix the catheter by means of the cord located thereon has been required to be developed.
Objectives of the Invention
The objective of the invention to develop a disposable cap for fixing a central venous catheter placed on the jugular vein having a cord from the side. Another object of the invention is to develop a cap allowing the catheter to be fixed to the neck that reduces vital risks such as opening of the suture that fixes the catheter, catheter dislocation, bleeding and embolism.
Another object of the invention is to develop a cap which prevents the opening of the dressing in the area by fixing the jugular catheter connections. Another object of the invention is to develop a cap which is easy to use, practical and cost-effective.
Detailed Description of the Invention
The disposable cap developed to achieve the object of the invention is shown in the attached figures. Figures;
Figure 1: A schematic view of the cap of the invention.
Figure 2: A schematic view of the cap of the invention from different angles.
Figure 3: A schematic view of the cap of the invention that is being used by a person. The parts in the figures are numbered one by one and the corresponding numbers are given below.
1. Cap
2. Cord
3. Catheter
4. Catheter Entrance Point
5. Dressing Material
The invention is a disposable cap (1) and; the catheter (3) comprises a cord (2) located at the ear level of a patient sewn to the disposable head covering cap (1) in order to connect the tubes of the catheter.
Disposable caps (1) are produced by non-woven polypropylene fabric (Nonwoven-Spunbond PP), in colors white, green and blue, with ultrasonic stitching technique. It is a product used by patients and employees in all units requiring invasive intervention in hospitals. Disposable caps are hygienic, anti- allergenic, air permeable and they provide isolation of the hair region.
The developed disposable cap (1) has properties of the caps (1) known in the prior art and has been developed to fix a central venous catheter (3) placed in the jugular vein by means of a cord (2) from the side of the cap (1).
The cord (2) on the cap (1) fixes the catheter (3) to the patient's neck, preventing the free movement of the catheter (3). Thus, the risk of the opening of the suture,
the dislocation of the catheter (3), bleeding and embolism is reduced and unnecessary pain and suffering of the patient is prevented. At the same time, the dressing material (5) at the catheter insertion zone (4) is fixed by means of the cap (1). Thereby, the risks of catheter (3)-related infections are also reduced.
Claims
1. The invention is a disposable cap (1); characterized by comprising a cord (2) located at the ear level of a patient sewn onto the disposable head covering cap (1) in order to connect the tubes of the catheter (3).
