Definitions

  • the present invention belongs to the sector of cleaning tools and, more specifically, to the sector of brooms for domestic use.
  • the sector is that of broom heads whose brush comprises a plurality of strands of fibers, each of which is formed of fibers having different characteristics and depart from the shoulder of the broom according to a direction of its own.
  • Brooms for domestic use comprise a head secured to a handle, the latter being formed of a sufficiently long stick as to enable a user to easily move the head of broom on the floor without having to bend his/her bust; tubular handles are known in order to reduce weight and telescopic tubular handles have also been developed to reduce overall dimensions.
  • the heads of brooms are comprised of a horizontal shoulder, transversally secured to the lower end of the handle; a plurality of strands of fibers, usually synthetic fibers, protrude from the intrados of the shoulder .
  • every strand is usually homogeneous, i.e. is made from fibers of the same type, and is particularly suitable for a specific type of cleaning.
  • the strands depart from the shoulder and their fibers progressively widen downwards, so that each of them takes a shape similar to that of a cone.
  • the portion of the strand proximal to the shoulder defines the vertex of the cone, which lays inside the shoulder.
  • the base of the cone is defined by the intersection of the strand itself with the lower cutting plane; the latter is substantially horizontal in order to be parallel to the floor to be swept.
  • the portion of the cone proximal to the shoulder is thus narrower than the distal portion; fiber space out from each other, hence stands progressively widen when moving towards the distal portion.
  • the strands formed of the stiffest fibers are placed at one or both ends of the shoulder and are laterally inclined so that their ends protrude outwards, in order to reach corners, edges, and interstices, more easily.

  • the strands formed of fibers featuring a medium thickness and a medium stiffness are slightly inclined outwards, in order to convey the dirt towards the center of the broom, so as to collect the most consistent dirt, such as crumbs, hairs, and hairs of animals.
  • An important advantage resulting from the strands being inclined consists in that, in the case of strands having a non-vertical axis, the cross section that is obtained from the intersection of a conical strand with the horizontal cutting plane is wider than the section that would be obtained from the intersection of the same cutting plane with the same vertical-axis strand, and consequently every strand sweeps a wider strip of the floor.
  • the strands are arranged on several lines and the strands of every line can feature different orientations and are often inclined outwards, in particular the outwards inclination of the strands is greater in the outermost strands than that of the innermost strands.

  • Brooms are also known wherein one or both ends of the shoulder are coated by a soft and elastic material to protect pieces of furniture and walls in the case of minor impacts which might occur while the broom sweeps the floor.
  • a first object of the present invention is thus to provide a broom which presents the advantages of the strands being inclined along the complete development of the transversal shoulder and, simultaneously, does not leave empty spaces in correspondence with its own centerline.
