  • the strap 14 defines apertures which are alignable with the apertures 12.4.
  • the strap 14 is attachable to the sole 12 by way of suitable anchor pins 16 which are locatable through the apertures of the strap 14 and within the apertures 12.4 of the sole 12 to anchor the strap 14 to the sole 12.
  • the anchor pins 16 are typically elongate pins which comprise transversely extending barbs / hooks 16.1 which facilitate anchoring the anchor pins 16 within the apertures 12.4 by resisting withdrawal of the pins 16 by engaging the walls of the sole 14 which define the apertures 12.4. In this way, the strap 14 is secured in a non removable fashion from the sole 12.
  • the sole 12 may define a suitable ledge / recessed notch 12.5 so as to accommodate the strap 14 so that the same is substantially flush with the lateral surface 12.3.
  • the notch 12.5 may be further recessed so as to allow the strap to be attached to the sole 12 with a slight inset or spacing from the lateral surface 12.3 thereof.
  • the sole 12 may be constructed of suitable synthetic material, natural material, or combinations thereof as is the case with conventional soles for sandals. Moreover, it will be appreciated that the upper surface 12.1 of the sole 12 may define thereon (not illustrated) suitable features to assist with comfort and / or grip, in use as also the case with conventional sandals.
  • the anchor pins 16 typically comprise attachment members 18 provided at trailing ends thereof so as to facilitate attachment of additional strap members / uppers 20 as illustrated in Fig’s. 3 to 6.
  • the additional strap member 20 typically has a rear major face 20.1 and a front major face 20.2.
  • the rear major face 20.1 typically defines complimentary attachment members 22 which engage in a complementary fashion with the attachment members 18 of the sandal 10.
  • the attachment members 18 and complementary attachment members 22 may be in the form of fiction fit press-stud arrangement / spigot-socket arrangement wherein the attachment members 18 or 22 define suitable projections which engage in a fictionally fitting manner with complementary recesses provided in the complementary attachment members 22 or 18 so as to facilitate removable attachment of the additional strap member 20 to the sandal 10, particularly to the strap 14.
  • the strap member 20 is typically quadrilateral shaped with a pair of opposite parallel ends 20.2, 20.3 and a pair of non-parallel edges 20.4, 20.5. In the illustrated example embodiment, it is the non-parallel edges / edge portions 20.4, 20.5 that are attachable adjacent to the sole 12. However, it will be appreciated that the strap member 20 may have different shapes.
  • the front face 20.2 of the additional strap member 20 may typically comprise ornamentation 20.6 provided thereon.
  • the reverse surfaces of the attachment members 22 may be attached to suitable decorative ornamentation in the form of charms, etc. 24.
  • the strap 14 of the sandal 10 is typically located relative to the sole 12 such that edge portions thereof a located substantially in the recess 12.5 and apertures of the strap 12 is aligned with the apertures 12.4 of the sole 12.
  • the anchor pins 16 with the attachment members 18 located at trailing edges thereof are driven with their opposite leading ends first into the apertures 12.4. It will be noted that the bars 16.1 slant away from the direction of urging of the pins 26 which prevent easy removal thereof from the sole 12. In this way the strap 14 is secured to the sole 12.
  • the sandal 10 may be used as is by a user. However, if the user wishes to change the appearance of the sandal 10, they may removably attach the additional strap member 20 to the strap 14 and/or sole 12 by urging the attachment members 22 into engagement with the attachment members 18 thereby securing the strap member 20 to the sandal 10.
  • one or more of the additional strap members 20 may be provided in a kit form with the sandal 10. Moreover, it will be appreciated that strap members 20 with different ornamental designs 12.6 may also be provided for use with the sandal 10. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the field of invention, that the kit referred to above comprises a pair of sandals 10 (for both feet).
  • FIG. 7 of the drawings where another sandal in accordance with example embodiment of the invention is generally indicated by reference numeral 100.
  • the sandal 100 is substantially similar to the sandal 10 and thus similar parts will be referred to by the same reference numerals.
  • the sandal 100 comprises a different attachment member 1 18 to the sandal 10.
  • the strap member 120 also comprises a complementary attachment formation 1 18 in the form of an aperture 122 as opposed to the attachment 22 as described above.
  • the attachment member 1 18 is in the form of a rotatable clasp which may be locatable within an attachment formation in the form of an aperture 122 provided on the strap member 120.
  • the clasp 1 18 may be receivable within the aperture 122 when the clasp 1 18 is in a horizontal position. However, with rotation of the attachment member 1 18 to a vertical position, the clasp 18 has a length which is greater than the height of the aperture 122 which prevents removal of the strap member 120 from the sandal 100.
  • the sandal 100 is substantially similar to the sandal 10 as described above.
  • the attachment mechanisms between the strap member 20, 120 and the sandal 10, 100 may be varied in a multitude of different ways.
  • FIG. 8 and 9 of the drawings where another sandal in accordance with example embodiment of the invention is generally indicated by reference numeral 200.
  • the sandal 200 is substantially similar to the sandal 100, and sandal 10 for that matter, and thus similar parts will be referred to by the same reference numerals.
  • the sandal 200 comprises a different anchored attachment member 218 to the sandal 10, 100.
  • the attachment member 218 is in the form of an anchor pin having a distal end portion 218.1 embedded in the sole 212 of the sandal 200 and a proximal end portion 218.2 having engaging formations in the form of screw threading provided thereon.
  • the member 218 may serve to attach the strap 220 to the sole 212 of the sandal 200 such that the proximal end 218.2 is accessible and is generally flush with the lateral surface of the sandal 200.
  • suitable adhesives such as glue, etc. may be used to attach the strap 220 to the sole 212.
  • the additional strap member 220 also comprises attachment formations in the form of apertures 222 disposed adjacent end portions of opposite ends 220.1 , 220.2 of the additional strap member 220.
  • each opposite end portion 220.1 , 220.2 of the additional strap member 220 may comprise a pair of spaced apart apertures 222.
  • the apertures 222 are typically alignable with the proximal end portions 218.2 of the anchored attachment members 218.
  • the additional strap member 220 is attachable to the sandal 200 by aligning the apertures 222 of the additional strap member 220 with the proximal end portions 218.2 of the anchored attachment members 218 and locating a suitable fastener 224 through each aperture 222 and operating the fasteners 224 to attach the same to the anchored attachment members 218, thereby attaching the additional strap member 220 to the sandal 200.

  • the fastener 224 may comprise a head portion 224.2 attached to the operative stem portion 224.1 thereof, wherein the head portion 224.2 comprises indicia provided thereon.
  • Various additional straps 20, 120, 220 may be used with the sandal 10, 100, 200 using various other attachments schemes not described herein.

Abstract
