半透過反射膜は、カソード電極の上に形成されており、
カソード電極の膜厚は、発光色毎に異なるように形成されている、
表示装置を有する電子機器である。

本開示に係る表示装置、本開示に係る電子機器に用いられる表示装置、及び、本開示に係る表示装置の製造方法によって得られる表示装置(以下、単に、これらを「本開示の表示装置」と呼ぶ場合がある。)において、反射膜は、アノード電極の機能を有する構成とすることができる。
2L/λ+Φ/2π=m(mは整数)
の条件を満たす構成とすることができる。
第1の実施形態は、本開示の第1の態様に係る、表示装置、表示装置の製造方法、及び、電子機器に関する。
2L/λ+Φ/2π=m(mは整数)
の条件を満たすように設定されている。
有機層上を含む全面にカソード電極を形成する工程と、
カソード電極の膜厚を、発光色毎に異なるように加工する工程と、
を有する。後述する他の実施形態においても同様である。
先ず、駆動回路が形成された回路基板20を準備する。基材21を用意し、基材21上に所定の成膜およびパターニングプロセスを経ることにより、薄膜トランジスタを含む駆動回路を形成する。続いて、駆動回路上の全面に平坦化膜27をスピンコート法、スリットコート法、スパッタリング法、CVD法などにより形成する。次いで、平坦化膜27に開口部を形成した後、開口部にコンタクトプラグ28を形成し、次いで、反射膜31を形成することによって、図3Aに示す回路基板20を得ることができる。
次いで、反射膜31と反射膜31との間に、画素間絶縁膜としての隔壁部32を形成する。反射膜31を含む全面にシリコン酸窒化物などの無機絶縁膜をスパッタリング法またはCVD法などによって成膜する。続いて、成膜した無機絶縁膜をリソグラフィ法およびドライエッチング法によって所定の凹構造となるように画素開口部をパターニングすることによって、隔壁部32を形成することができる。その後、反射膜31上を含む全面に、例えば、ホール注入層、ホール輸送層、赤色発光層、発光分離層、青色発光層、緑色発光層、電子輸送層を順次成膜し、白色で発光する有機層40を形成する。
次いで、有機層40上の全面に、カソード電極50を形成する。例えば、スパッタリング法によってインジウム亜鉛酸化物(IZO)から成る膜を全面に亘って形成することによって、カソード電極50を得ることができる。
次いで、発光色に合わせてカソード電極50の膜厚を調整する。先ず、発光色が青色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極50上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極50に凹部OPBを形成する(図5参照)。次いで、発光色が緑色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極50上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極50に凹部OPGを形成する(図6参照)。その後、発光色が赤色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極50上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極50に凹部OPRを形成する(図7参照)。凹部の深さは、OPB>OPG>OPRといった関係にある。
次いで、カソード電極50上の全面に、半透過反射膜60を形成する。半透過反射膜60は、例えば蒸着法を用いて形成することができる。
その後、半透過反射膜60上の全面に、例えばCVD法を用いて保護膜70を形成する。次いで、必要に応じて対向基板などを貼りあわせる。以上の工程によって表示装置1を得ることができる。
第2の実施形態は、第1の実施形態の変形である。第1の実施形態に対して、カソード電極が組成の異なる層の積層構造である点が、主に相違する。
先ず、上述した[工程-100]と[工程-110]で説明したと同様の工程を行い、回路基板20上に、隔壁部32と有機層40を形成する(図3B参照)。
次いで、有機層40上の全面に、カソード電極250を形成する。例えば、成膜条件を異にして、スパッタリング法によってインジウム亜鉛酸化物(IZO)から成る層を積層して、第1層250A、第2層250B、第3層250C、第4層250Dから成るカソード電極250を形成する。
次いで、発光色に合わせてカソード電極250の膜厚を調整する。先ず、発光色が青色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極250上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極250に凹部OPBを形成する。次いで、発光色が緑色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極250上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極250に凹部OPGを形成する。その後、発光色が赤色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極250上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極50に凹部OPRを形成する。凹部の深さは、OPB>OPG>OPRといった関係にある。
その後、上述した[工程-140]と[工程-150]で説明したと同様の工程を行う。以上の工程によって表示装置2を得ることができる。
第3の実施形態も、第1の実施形態の変形である。第1の実施形態に対して、発光層は画素毎に形成されており、また、発光層は画素の発光色に応じた色の光を発光する点が、主に相違する。
第4の実施形態も、第1の実施形態の変形である。第1の実施形態に対して、一部の画素について凹部の形成を省略することができるといった点が相違する。
先ず、上述した[工程-100]と[工程-110]で説明したと同様の工程を行い、回路基板20上に、隔壁部32と有機層40を形成する(図3B参照)。
次いで、有機層40上の全面に、カソード電極450を形成する。上述したように、カソード電極450は、赤色に適した共振状態が得られる厚さで形成する。
次いで、発光色に合わせてカソード電極450の膜厚を調整する。先ず、発光色が青色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極450上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極250に凹部OPBを形成する。次いで、発光色が緑色である画素10に対応した開口を有するマスクをカソード電極450上に形成し、ドライエッチングを施してカソード電極250に凹部OPGを形成する。
その後、上述した[工程-140]と[工程-150]で説明したと同様の工程を行う。以上の工程によって表示装置4を得ることができる。
以上説明した本開示の表示装置は、電子機器に入力された映像信号、若しくは、電子機器内で生成した映像信号を、画像若しくは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器の表示部(表示装置)として用いることができる。一例として、例えば、テレビジョンセット、デジタルスチルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話機等の携帯端末装置、ビデオカメラ、ヘッドマウントディスプレイ(頭部装着型ディスプレイ)等の表示部として用いることができる。
図17は、レンズ交換式一眼レフレックスタイプのデジタルスチルカメラの外観図であり、図17Aにその正面図を示し、図17Bにその背面図を示す。レンズ交換式一眼レフレックスタイプのデジタルスチルカメラは、例えば、カメラ本体部(カメラボディ)411の正面右側に交換式の撮影レンズユニット(交換レンズ)412を有し、正面左側に撮影者が把持するためのグリップ部413を有している。
図18は、ヘッドマウントディスプレイの外観図である。ヘッドマウントディスプレイは、例えば、眼鏡形の表示部511の両側に、使用者の頭部に装着するための耳掛け部512を有している。このヘッドマウントディスプレイにおいて、その表示部511として本開示の表示装置を用いることができる。すなわち、本例に係るヘッドマウントディスプレイは、その表示部511として本開示の表示装置を用いることによって作製される。
図19は、シースルーヘッドマウントディスプレイの外観図である。シースルーヘッドマウントディスプレイ611は、本体部612、アーム613および鏡筒614で構成される。
なお、本開示の技術は以下のような構成も取ることができる。
画素の発光色毎に反射膜と半透過反射膜とが異なる距離で配置され、
反射膜と半透過反射膜との間に、発光層を含む有機層と透明なカソード電極とが積層されており、

カソード電極の膜厚は、発光色毎に異なるように形成されている、
