Description
ORTHODONTIC PALATAL ANCHORAGE SCREW
The Related Art
The invention is related with screws that defined as temporary anchoring devices/screws are used in the palatal (palatinal) side of the upper jaw to be used as a point of support for pulling and pushing forces required to move teeth.
The invention contains these parts of the palatal screw:
• The slot in which the main wire can be fitted to the anchor screw head
• Fixing cap used to secure the main wire to the anchor screw head
• The screw head that has the same geometrical form as the fixing cap
• The body of the anchor screw extending into the bone.
Background of the Invention
The main aim of orthodontics, which is a branch of dentistry, is to ensure that the teeth in poor position are moved to a proper tooth alignment. Push or pull force is applied by supporting from another tooth to move to another area of a jaw. This force leads to undesirable movements in the support tooth. Supports are obtained from the screws, which are defined as temporary anchorage devices / screws that are placed inside the bone on the palate side in order to create the targeted movement in the desired tooth and not to affect the other teeth. With the springs on the wires connected to these screws, force is applied to the teeth. In each screw system, different methods are used to attach wires to the screws.
One of the previous methods used, the patent number EP2742901 : the main wire is threaded through the hole in the screw head. Considering a lever assembly, the excess screw head length will increase the forces acting on the anchor screw. In the long term this situation leads to screw losses. In addition, the increase of the applied force reduces the resistance of the screw and creates the risk of fracture. In addition, a second screw is used for fixing the main screw through the hole in the head of the screw. Due to the small structure of the anchoring system, it does not have sufficient physical stability, since this second screw must also be produced quite small.
The second method used in palatal anchorage systems is the patent number DE102007058108. This anchorage system does not have a mechanical connection on the screw head to which the main wire can be attached. Soldering is required for fixing the main wire to the screw head. Metal alloys such as borax and nickel are used for soldering. These alloys lead to corrosion after the application of the screw to the mouth. In addition, the necessity of soldering in the laboratory requires an additional cost and the dentist to obtain a detailed impression before soldering.
Another method used in palatal anchorage systems is the patent number 2015/17292. It is indicated that the screw can be applied by both palate (palatal) and labial (vestibule) direction. However, in this system, the stopper part of the screw is placed inside the fixing head so that the total diameter is about 1.5 times larger.
This size does not disturb the patient in the palate (palatal) region, but the screw can cause a very large volume and discomfort when placed on the side of the cheek (vestibule). Since the diameter of the screws used in the area of the palate is 1.8 mm, on the cheek side, the screws are placed between the tooth roots, due to this anatomical neighborhood, their diameter is 0.8 mm. Since there is no risk of damaging any anatomical structure in the palate area, the screws are designed longer and thicker. It is not possible to apply the same design principles to the cheek side.
The design of the stopper part on the inside of the fixing head causes an increase in the diameter of the fixing head in order to prevent the reduction of mechanical strength. This creates an environment that both irritates the patient and causes more food residual accumulation with the increase of volume.
At the same time, the mounting of the stopper into the fixing head creates the necessity to produce a separate screw wrench for this part. This is a cost-increasing factor.
Consequently, in order to solve the aforementioned problems in the prior technics, the need for a new anchor screw and the inadequacy of existing solutions necessitated an improvement in the relevant technical field.
Purpose of the Invention

The most important object of the invention is to increase the resistance of the screw. Another object of the invention is to avoid using toxic material (solder) and to have a low health risk.
Another object of the invention is that; by eliminating the need to take impression in the mouth from the screw, the lab requirement is to save additional costs and time.
Another object of the invention is to reduce the risk of loosening the screw by reducing the force falling on the screw body remaining in the bone.
Another object of the invention is to allow the screw and cap to be used with a single wrench to provide ease of application.
Another object of the invention is that the screw grips the anchor wire more firmly and improves the mechanical strength.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The main features of the invention are: the head part (11 ) of the anchor screw (10) that contains a slot (12) for securing the anchor wire and the fixing body (11.1 ) with threads (13) of the head part, and a fixing cap (17) having a cavity (19) with threads (18) suitable for the fixing body.
Figure 1- indicates a drawing of anchorage screw (10) according to the invention The body of the anchorage screw (14) has a circular diameter. Anchorage screw has drilling part (16) which is at the end portion of the screw, facilitates bone entrying and also screw has body thread (15) which allow the screw body (14) to penetrate and retention in the bone.
In the upper part of the screw body (14), there is a head part (11 ) with head threads (13) and has a slot (12) with a extending along its diameter to for the fit of the main wire.
In order to compress the main wire inserted into the slot (12) of the head (11 ), the fixing cap (17), which is compatible with the cap threads (18) on the inner side, is mounted. The height of the compression body (3.1 ) is configured to be equal to or smaller than the height of the cap space (19).
Head (11 ) has a hexagonal form and wrench fits to this form. The screw body (14) moves into the bone with the help of the rotational force from the wrench.
Figure-3 shows the fixing cap (17) that compress and fix the main wire of the anchor screw (10) according to the invention. Fixing cap (17) fixes the main wire in the slot (12) which is the part of the anchorage screw (10) on the gingiva with compressed by the applied rotation force of head threads (13) and cap threads (18). Since the head (11 ) and the fixing cap (17) have the same geometrical shape, it is also used to tighten the main wire inside the slot (12) by rotating the same wrench for fixing cap (17). In this way, the screw and cover are applied without the need for two separate wrenchs, making the fixing process easier and reducing the cost of an additional wrench.
Figure 5 shows the fixing cap (17) mounted on the head (11 ) of the anchor screw (10). After the anchor screw (10) is inserted into the bone with the wrench, the main wire is seated in the slot (12) located in the head (11 ) and the fixing cover (17) is rotated with the same key and tightened until it is in contact with the rail wire. Thus, the main wire is secured to the anchor screw (10) to prevent it from being removed from the slot. With the springs applied to the main wire connected to the anchor screw (10), the teeth are moved.
Since the main wire can only be fixed with the fixing cap (17) without any additional screws or parts, the risk of loosening is reduced and the fixing is made more easily and quickly. This does not require any additional laboratory processes, costs or time, so costs are reduced.
Attachment of the main wire with only the fixing cap (17) without any additional screws or parts reduces the volume of the cap (11 ) and forms a hygienically cleanable surface by covering the slot (12) and the main wire.
The design of the fixing cap (17) to cover the head (11 ) from the outside enables the main wire in the slot (12) to more firmly grip and to increase the mechanical strength. With the diameter of the fixing cap (17) of the fixing body (11.1 ) suitable for the diameter of the cavity (19), the fixing cap (17) can be integrated into fixing body (11.1 ) by the force of rotation.
The design of the base of the slot (12) close to the screw body (14), allows to shorten the portion of the anchor screw (10). This reduces the force exerted by the screw body (14) in the bone and reduces the risk of loosening of the anchor screw (10). The scope of protection of this application is defined in the claims section and is not limited to those described above for sampling purposes. It is evident that one skilled in the art will be able to demonstrate the novelty set forth in the invention by using similar systems and / or to apply this system to other similar purposes as used in the art.
