Description
CLOSED SYSTEM ASPIRATION and DRAINAGE NEEDLE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to a closed aspiration and drainage needle system developed in the field of medical technology and used in interventional treatments, such as hepatic hydatid cysts, simple cysts, percutaneous drainage of abscesses and needle aspiration biopsy, in order to prevent the medical personnel and patients from contamination.
The flow control system has been adapted to the needles with and without plungers and the closed aspiration and drain needle system subject to the invention.
PREVIOUS TECHNIQUE
In the treatment of hepatic hydatid cysts, simple cysts, percutaneous drainage of abscesses and needle aspiration biopsy, etc., performance of the operations directly from the rear of the needle after the withdrawal of the plunger causes contamination and poses a risk both to the patient and the physician.
As medical technology is a recently emerging technology in Turkey, production of the related materials is also very limited. Thus, although certain needle and syringe configurations have been developed using the former technique, there are no flow control systems, etc. associated with the needle that can be employed to prevent contamination.
The invention subject to the patent entitled "Single-use biopsy syringe, with forward piston motion control, intended for fine needle aspiration" having the registration number of 2006 02038 is the single-use biopsy syringe, with forward piston motion control, intended for fine needle aspiration and the forward piston motion creates a vacuum at the tip of the needle instead of pressure. This adverse effect (creation of vacuum instead of pressure with the forward piston motion) is achieved by separating the syringe reservoir into two separate volumes such as V1 and V2.
Interventional radiodiagnostic radiology, which is one of the areas of use of the invention, is a new field that develops within radiology, where the diagnosis of the diseases has been made within the Radiodiagnostic Radiology used for the diagnosis and treatment of
the diseases, and their treatment, if necessary, is made with the assistance of radiological devices ((conventional x-ray, ultrasonography, computed tomography and digital subtraction (D.S.) angiography)) instead of surgery.
In the former technique, the materials used in the field of Radiodiagnostic Radiology are suitably shaped in accordance with the purpose and/or most of these medical materials are imported from abroad. Thus, although the invention has its analogs comprising different materials used for different purposes, it does not have an exact equivalent.
The hepatic hydatid cyst was previously performed only with a 18 G needle with a plunger. However, when infected content flows onto the sterile area as the plunger of the needle is removed after the lesion; it causes the patient and the medical personnel to get contaminated.
The invention is a closed aspiration and drainage needle system to be used in interventional treatments (hepatic hydatid cysts, simple cysts, percutaneous drainage of abscesses and needle aspiration biopsy, etc.), which has been developed to overcome the problems of the known technique and to prevent the contamination of the medical personnel and the patients.
The flow control system placed on the rear of the needle prevents the spread of the infected content onto the area after the withdrawal of the plunger, and the three-way tap added to the flow control system connection provides more efficient operation. The sterility of the area was ensured thanks to these arrangements and the needle's manipulation capability has been increased.
In summary, this is an invention designed to prevent the patient, the medical personnel and the area used for the treatment of the patient, from contamination in the treatment of percutaneous hydatid cyst and during the drainage and aspiration. The invention is a closed circuit that prevents the sterile working area from becoming contaminated. In this system, no contact with the infected content is possible as the infected content is collected in the closed circuit (in the syringe), therefore the sterility of the area is not impaired.
The invention serves the medical field first, and is then utilized in the field of Radiodiagnostic Radiology.
Description of the Invention
The aim of the invention is to achieve a closed aspiration and drainage needle system in order to prevent the contamination of the medical personnel and the patients.
The objective of the invention is to achieve a closed aspiration and drainage needle system to be utilized in the field of the Radiodiagnostic Radiology in particular.

The invention is a closed aspiration and drainage needle system which is used in interventional treatments to prevent the contamination of medical personnel and patients. Essential components that constitute the invention are; the needle (1 b), the flow control system (2) connected to the rear of the needle (1 b) and the three-way tap (3) connected to the flow control system (2) connection.
In one embodiment of the invention, flow control system (2) is connected to the rear of the needle (1 b) and the plunger (1 a) is connected to the end of the flow control system (2). The needle (1 b) used in the invention may be used with (1 a) or without a plunger. Said needle (1 b) may be in the 16G-22G range in different embodiments of the invention.
Said flow control system (2) comprises control system (2a) and the interconnection (2b). As shown in Figure 2, the control system (2a) is connected to the needle (1 b) on one end and preferably to the plunger (1 a) on the other end.
The flow control system (2) is connected to the three-way tap (3) at the end of the extension of the interconnection (2b). The three-way tap (3) consists of a three-way passage (3a) and a switch (3b) used to open or close the passageways.
The invention allows prevention of the infected content to spread into the area after withdrawal of the needle (1 b) due to having the needle (1 b) connected to the flow control system (2) and the three-way tap (3). The three-way tap (3), which is connected to the connection of the flow control system (2), enables the flow control system (2) to operate more efficiently. The sterility of the area was ensured thanks to these arrangements and the manipulation capability of the needle (1 b) has been increased.
Among the needle (1 b), flow control system (2) and the three-way tap (3) mentioned in the invention, only the needle (1 b) was subject to the innovation. The flow control system (2) and the three-way tap (3) are included in the embodiment of the invention, in their original forms that exist in the former technique.
Innovation carried out in the needle (1 b) was carried out since the length of the needle (1 b) was increased due to mounting the flow control system (2) to the needle (1 b). The needle (1 b) has been shortened to the same extent that the flow control system (2) has been lengthened, in order to shorten the overall length.
On the other hand, the said plunger (1 a) fell short after being passed through the control system (2a). Whereas this problem has been solved by shortening the length of the needle (1 b) relative to the plunger (1 ) in order to withdraw the plunger (1 a) from the end of the needle (1 b).
In the embodiment of the invention, first, the needle (1 b) and the flow control system (2) are assembled together. The plunger (1 a) is then inserted into the needle (1 b) passing the plunger through the flow control system (2). A three-way tap (3) and the three-way passage (3a) is mounted to the interconnection (2b) of the flow control system (2). Finally, the passageway is closed by switching the switch (3b) of the three-way tap (3) to the interconnection (2b) of the flow control system (2) and the system's installation is completed.
By means of the invention, the infected content is prevented to spread onto the sterile area and to cause any contamination, after obtaining the desired lesion and after the withdrawal of the plunger (1 a). The three-way tap (3) added to the flow control system (2) ensures that the process is more controlled during drainage and aspiration. Another advantage of the invention comes to the fore in the case of examinations for which the treatment will be continued. It can be implemented in the patients that had the first treatment and who will have the catheter placed on them to allow unconstrained drainage. For this purpose, the valve of the flow control system (2) is opened and the guide wire is sent through the flow control system (2) to be placed on the lesion. Then, the system can be removed and catheter manipulation can be done easily over the guide wire.
