Abstract

The invention relates to a physical contention device for mobility-impaired persons. Said device consists of a cushion having, in the front central region, a through-housing, the cross-section of which matches a complementary retaining bar, said retaining bar being retractable and having a height of 150 to 500 millimeters and a cross-section of 50 to 150 millimeters.

Field of the invention

The present invention relates to the field of geriatric equipment, and more specifically the field of physical restraint equipment for people with degraded muscle tone or disoriented people with a risk of falling.

In a geriatric environment, caregivers regularly resort to the physical restraint of elderly subjects at risk of falling. The term "physical restraint" refers to the passive restraint of restricting an individual's motor skills.

It is characterized by the use of means, methods, materials or clothing that prevent or limit the ability to involuntary or voluntary mobilization of all or part of the body to prevent the inadvertent slipping, slumber, dizziness or lack muscle tone or neurological disorders. The risk of passive fall exists especially when the subject slides gradually forward of the seat until falling on the footrest.

For this, it has been proposed the use of belts, bonnets, vests and jackets for bed and chair support, which makes it possible to maintain people with low muscle tone or disoriented people (Alzheimer's disease ... ) at risk of falling.

State of the art

A first set of solutions concerns pelvic restraint belts to immobilize the person in a lounge chair or wheelchair.

These solutions are not really satisfactory.

On the one hand, paradoxically, they introduce traumatic risk factors and complications related to restraint. These can be serious accidents (skin lacerations, bruises, hematomas ...), see fatal (death by asphyxiation during fires, or strangulation during a slide through a chest compression or an armchair tablet).

In addition, the number of serious falls (those responsible for a fracture, an injury, requiring the use of a doctor, or resulting in a bed rest of more than two days) increases in the attached patients.

Finally, the psychological consequences are frequent. Restraints inflict on those who suffer them moral suffering: feeling of humiliation, anguish, anger, despair.

Depressive states, regressive states, aggressiveness or stress states are sometimes observed, linked to this violation of the patient's dignity. These solutions also provoke a painful feeling of the care teams taking care of patients, including anxiety, frustration and feelings of guilt.

US5123699 also proposes a portable and personalized patient support system which is intended to keep a person in a substantially vertical sitting position.

The system includes a seat cushion, a back cushion and left and right side cushions. Each of the cushions is selected to conform to certain measured dimensions of the person.

The cushions are attached to each other by means of interconnection devices. The assembled system can be used with most conventional chairs and seats, including wheelchairs. This solution provides steps for measuring certain patient dimensions, selecting appropriately sized cushions and securing the cushions together using the interconnecting devices.

Another solution is described in US2011 / 041251 which relates to a child support device for supporting a child in a supine position, comprising a base having a support surface extending between the side members on the upper part of the base. The support surface is defined by two parts:

(I) a body support surface disposed proximate the front portion of the support device and terminating adjacent to the front portion of the device, and

(II) a leg support surface extending rearwardly from the end of the body support surface to the rear portion of the device. The child is supported in a supine position on the support surface between the side members, the legs being supported on the leg support surface and retained by said handle to minimize child rolling to a lying on the back.

different.

British patent GB2102283 is also known describing a support wedge for infants and children in young, especially for children with multiple disabilities and

severely disabled in kindergarten and school,

comprising a wedge-shaped base plate, corner elements mounted laterally on the base plate to define a recess therebetween and individual elements which are of different shapes and are capable of being placed between the corner elements in a any desired position in which all components are releasably attached to one another.

Disadvantages of prior art

The solutions of the prior art are not satisfactory either because they are effective only if they are perfectly adjusted to the morphology of the person for whom it is intended, which represents a cost and a time of inappropriate treatment for structures reception of elderly people.

Solution provided by the invention

In order to remedy these drawbacks, the invention relates, according to its most general meaning, to a physical restraint device for people with reduced mobility, characterized in that it consists of a cushion having, in the central front area, a through-housing of complementary section to a complementary support bar, said support bar being retractable and having a height of between 150 and 500 millimeters, and a section of between 50 and 150 millimeters.

Preferably, said holding bar has peripheral padding.

Advantageously, said holding bar is surrounded by a synthetic foam. According to a particular embodiment, the device further comprises a tablet having a connecting means on the upper part of said holding bar.

According to particular modes of implementation:

it comprises a rigid plate inserted in said cushion and has a hole complementary to the section of the lower end of said support bar;

- It comprises a rigid plate inserted into said cushion extended by a tubular sleeve flush with the surface of said cushion and having a complementary section to the section of the lower end of said holding bar.

- The holding bar is extended at its upper part by a crossbar.

- The holding bar cooperates with a sleeve by a bayonet coupling.

Detailed description of an example embodiment

The present invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, referring to a nonlimiting exemplary embodiment illustrated by the accompanying drawings in which:

Description of a first variant

The device is constituted by a cushion (1), for example a molded cushion for the seat of a wheelchair.

It can be constituted by a viscoelastic gel with high crosslinking for preventing the phenomenon of punching with a high density HR foam envelope conferring flexibility and comfort of the patient.

It contains a rigid plate, for example of wood, which is housed in the filling of the cushion (1), or possibly overmolded at the time of manufacture of the cushion (1) ·

This plate (2) and the cushion (1) have in the median front area a bore to open into the area, when a person is sitting on the cushion, the pelvic area between the thighs.

A tubular sleeve (3) is engaged in the bore of the plate (2) to extend perpendicular to the plate (2), and opening to the outer surface of the cushion (1). A fabric ring (4) closes the bore around the sleeve (3). This sleeve may be made of plastic or metal.

A holding bar (5) can be engaged or withdrawn in this sleeve (3). The connection between the holding bar (5) and the sleeve (3) can for example be achieved by a bayonet coupling facilitating the establishment of the support bar (5), while avoiding the unexpected withdrawal by the person installed in the chair.

The holding bar (5) is surrounded by a synthetic foam (6).

This holding bar (5) secures the person installed in the chair and prevents slipping forward, or pivoting may unbalance and cause a fall.

The height of the holding bar (5) is determined to exceed the height of the thighs of the person.

Optionally, the holding bar (5) is completed at its upper part by a shelf (7) which can be rotatable and / or translational. This tablet can serve as a support for resting objects or a book, and confer an additional function to the device object 1 of the invention.

Optionally, the cushion has means of connection with the chair to prevent it from sliding relative to the seat of the chair. This is for example a strap provided at the rear of the cushion, allowing the connection with the chair structure.

Realization variant

Figure 2 corresponds to an alternative embodiment wherein the holding bar (5) is extended at its upper part by a transverse bar (8). The assembly can be made by molding or welded connection of two tubular elements (5, 8), or by clipping on the upper end of the holding bar (5). The transverse bar (8) is also surrounded by a protective foam (9). This transverse bar (8) serves two functions: a) It ensures that the legs of the person installed in the chair are locked, so that a person who is agitated does not pass a leg over the support bar (5), in the absence of shelf b) it is used as a support for putting the hands and give a capacity to the person installed in the chair.

Optionally, the assembly formed by a cushion (1), a sleeve (5), a shelf (7) and a crossbar (8) snap is a kit for adapting the invention to different modes of use.
