Abstract
The present invention relates to automatically recording on a memory (4) and replaying of a broadcast content, based on data from a detection system (S) in a broadcast receiver device (1).
Description
The present invention relates to a broadcast receiver device in which a broadcast content can be recorded in a specific time interval and replayed.
Currently, user preference based customizations related to the contents being viewed or played, are widely used in devices capable of receiving broadcasts such as satellite receivers, televisions or radios. Televisions which are the most commonly used devices among these, are continuously updated in technologies such as content support, user experience variety, usage flexibility and program tracking.
In improving user experience, in order to track broadcasts and to view content without depending on the time of its broadcast, solutions are widely used such as the device being capable of downloading data by connecting to the Internet, or being capable of replaying the content when desired by recording on an integrated or external memory unit.
Even though a content can be recorded by user intervention during viewing a program and be replayed later, solutions which can activate automatically in cases such as a user being obliged to leave the television in unexpected circumstances, gain importance in terms of enhancing user experience.
State of the art Korean patent document no. KR100830470 describes a system enabling recording a broadcast when an emergency broadcasting interrupts and replaying said broadcast when desired. By this, the portion of the broadcast being viewed by the user which is unwatched due to the mandatory interruption is recorded, and missing program content is avoided as the broadcast can be resumed to be watched by means of the record.
State of the art European patent application document no. EP 3029947 describes a method which during a broadcast, enables recording another broadcast in a device memory and replaying it later. When a different program is selected by the user by means of said method, recording is started upon a user activating the selection. User experience is improved as the saved program can be viewed when desired.
The aim of the present invention is to realize a broadcast receiver device in which a user is enabled to track a broadcast stream by the broadcast receiver device executing the pausing, automatically recording and restarting processes of a broadcast video based on detecting the location of the user.
The broadcast receiver device realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims, comprises a control unit controlling the operations, a screen on which image data is reflected, at least one detection system detecting presence of the user in the environment and transmitting this information to the control unit, at least one memory storing image data, and a timer measuring the broadcasting duration of the image data.
The broadcast receiver device of the invention in which user presence in the environment is monitored by means of a detection system, comprises a control unit enabling the configurations of an attended mode in which the timer is stopped and the broadcast stream is reflected on the screen if user presence in the environment is determined, and an abandoned mode in which the timer is activated if non-presence of user is determined, enabling recording the broadcast on the memory until user presence in the environment is determined again. By this, the system automatically activates when the user has to leave the environment, enabling watching a program being viewed without missing any of the content.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a detection system detecting the location of the user by means of at least one sensor. The sensor may be suitable for sensing motion or may be one of the various types used in detecting human presence, such as an infrared imaging sensor. In order to detect and monitor presence of all users in the viewing area in the broadcast receiver device environment, an effective detecting system can be formed by using a sensor detecting according to a plurality of methods or by configuring many sensors of the same type in a plurality of positions. This enables enhancing the effectiveness of the user presence detection mechanism triggering switching of the control unit to attended and abandoned modes.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device is a television. In cases when the user has to leave the environment while watching a program on the television, the program being watched is recorded upon detecting that the user has departed from the environment and once it is detected that the user has returned to the environment, displaying the program on the television is automatically resumed, improving user experience and avoiding missing any part of the program.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a control unit which, in the abandoned mode, switches to the stand-by mode in which the screen is turned off, while enabling continuation of recording on the memory. In the abandoned mode activated by the command of the control unit upon detecting departure of the user from the environment, the broadcast which has began to be recorded, is not reflected on the screen. An efficient electricity consumption is thus provided by reducing the amount energy used by keeping the screen turned off when the user is not present.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a control unit enabling reducing the screen brightness in abandoned mode. In the abandoned mode activated by the command of the control unit upon detecting departure of the user from the environment, the broadcast stream which has began to be recorded continues. The broadcast stream is reflected with a low brightness on the screen throughout the duration in which the device is in the abandoned mode. An efficient electricity consumption is thus provided by reducing the amount energy used by decreasing the screen brightness when the user is not present.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises at least one speaker enabling transmitting sound to the user once the sound data matching with the image data is processed. In the abandoned mode, the control unit enables reducing the sound volume emitted from the speaker. There may be one or more speakers which may be integrated or externally connected to the broadcast receiver device. Once departure of the user from the environment is detected, the broadcast content sound volume from the speaker may be reduced or may preferably be muted completely. Electricity is thus used efficiently by reducing energy consumption.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a detection system having a passive mode activated by a command sent by the user, in which user location monitoring is turned off. When the detection system is switched to passive mode, the control unit enables executing the steps of switching the sensor to passive position, resetting the timer and deleting the data on the memory. The broadcast content recording based on location monitoring can thus be deactivated when desired, improving the viewing experience by diversifying user preferences.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a detection system having an active mode activated by a command sent by the user, in which user location monitoring is turned on. When the detection system is switched to active mode, the control unit executes - switching the sensor to active position, performing continuous user location monitoring, - activating the attended mode when the user is present in the environment and - activating the abandoned mode upon determining departure of the user from the environment. By this, broadcast viewing efficiency is improved by continuously monitoring user presence in the environment, and electricity consumption is reduced by decreasing the amount of energy used when the broadcast is not viewed.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a timer tracking recording duration. Once the duration which can be predetermined by the user is defined on the timer, the control unit enables recording throughout this duration. Recording operation is used to avoid missing a program being viewed due to the user leaving the environment. The ending time of a program can be determined by matching the program being viewed with the electronic program information (EPG data) in the broadcast stream. By setting the timer according to ending time of a program, the content of the related program is enabled to be viewed without missing any of the content.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a control unit enabling recording to be stopped once the duration defined on the timer is exceeded. By this, recording of a program is prevented from occupying redundant space on memory capacity if the user is not present in the environment for a long time.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device records broadcast content in the abandoned mode. The attended mode is activated upon the detection system determining that the user has entered the environment, and recording is stopped. In turn, the control unit enables the broadcast recorded on the memory to be reflected on the screen and the broadcast data from the recording which has been reflected on the screen to be deleted from the memory. This enables updating the memory and displaying the recent broadcast content of the time when the user has left the environment. The broadcast can be automatically resumed upon detecting return of the user to the environment.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device comprises a control unit enabling the recording process on the memory to be started if abandoned mode is switched to again before all of the recorded broadcast data is replayed, while the broadcast recorded on the memory is being reflected on the screen due to switching to attended mode. The recording on the memory continues so as to be played following ending of the initial recording content, and the final recorded portion is broadcast as the last during replaying the content. Program content tracking is thus facilitated.
The invention facilitates tracking program content if a user becomes obliged to leave the screen environment during viewing the program, by automatically detecting location change and accordingly executing the steps required to record the broadcast content being watched and to replay said recording.

When the detection system (S) is switched to passive mode (P), the control unit (2) enables executing the steps of switching the sensor (6) to passive position, resetting the timer (5) and deleting the data on the memory (4). A program data stored in the memory (4) which occupies space as it is not yet replayed, can be deleted from the memory (4) if it is not desired to be watched. The memory (4) can be reset by switching the system to passive mode (P), thereby enabling recording new programs. The detection system (S) is activated by switching the system back to the active mode (C) and the risk of not being able to record a new program due to the memory (4) being full is decreased.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device (1) comprises a detection system (S) having an active mode (C) activated by a command sent to the control unit (2) by the user, in which user location monitoring is turned on. When the detection system (S) is switched to active mode (C), the control unit (2) enables executing the steps of switching the sensor (6) to active position, performing continuous user location monitoring, and activating the attended mode (A1) when the user is present in the environment and activating the abandoned mode (B1) upon determining departure of the user from the environment. Program monitoring is thus facilitated by enhancing user location monitoring efficiency.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device (1) comprises a timer (5) tracking recording duration. The control unit (2) enables recording throughout a duration which can be predetermined by the user. The duration defined on the timer (5) may be a value corresponding to the duration until the end of the program being watched or a value predetermined by the user. User viewing experience is thus improved by customizing recording preferences of the user.
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device (1) comprises a control unit (2) enabling recording to be stopped once the duration defined on the timer (5) is exceeded. There is no element that would restrict recording throughout the duration elapsed in abandoned mode (B1) as long as memory (4) capacity is not exceeded. However, recording is stopped when the timer (5) determines that a duration determined by the user is exceeded, thereby preventing recorded different programs desired to be viewed from occupying further space in the memory (4) capacity.
In an embodiment of the invention, in the broadcast receiver device (1), the control unit (2) executes the steps of reflecting on the screen (3) the broadcast recorded on the memory (4) in the abandoned mode (B1) and deleting from the memory (4) the broadcast data which has been reflected on the screen (3), when the attended mode (A1) activates upon determining presence of the user in the environment in the abandoned mode (B1). Deleting the recorded content from the memory (4) after reflecting it on the screen (3), provides available space for recording new programs on the memory (4).
In an embodiment of the invention, the broadcast receiver device (1) comprises a control unit (2) enabling the recording process on the memory (4) to be started, if the abandoned mode (B1) is switched to again before all of the recorded broadcast data is replayed, while the broadcast recorded on the memory (4) is being reflected on the screen (3) due to switching to attended mode (A1). The abandoned mode (B1) activated upon determining departure of the user from the environment, automatically starts recording on the memory (4) the content being watched. When the user enters the environment again, the attended mode (A1) activates, stops the recording, and starts playing the content recorded throughout the duration of the abandoned mode (B1). If the user leaves the environment again during replaying of the record, the abandoned mode (B1) reactivates and recording is restarted. Content loss is thus minimized.
The broadcast receiver device (1) of the present invention enables executing the pausing, automatically recording and replaying processes of a broadcast video based on detecting the location of the user by means of a detection system (S) while the broadcast receiver device (1) is being watched.
