Description

PET COMB AND COMB BODY THEREOF
PRIORITY DOCUMENTS
The present application claims priority from Chinese Patent Application No. 201820413538.9 filed on 26 March 2018, the content of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a pet-grooming tool, and more particularly to a pet comb that is used to remove loose or knotted hair from the fur of a pet.
BACKGROUND
With the improvement of living standards, people’s demand for pets has gradually increased, and pets have become a part of our lives.
There may be hair on the fur of a pet that falls off the skin, that is, the hair does not adhere to the skin. A grooming tool is now available on the market that is specially designed to clean off the lost hair of the pet or to comb the hair neatly. The head of the grooming tool has a comb with a row of comb teeth. However, the pet hair is often knotted (knotted hair refers to more than two hairs that are connected with each other) , and the above conventional pet comb, when combing the pet hair, may be caught by the knotted hair.
US Pat. No. US7077076B2 discloses a pet-grooming tool comprising a comb with a blade at the root of the comb teeth. This blade location, on one hand, can prevent the hand from being cut due to the exposed blade and, on the other hand, can get the pet hair cut off and thinned. However, since pet hair is often knotted and the amount of knotted hair can be substantial, the position and orientation of the blade in this structure will struggle to cope with the knotted hair. Furthermore, when the pet hair is combed, the pet may experience pain due to the received excessive pulling force, and the hair cannot be well combed.
With the blade of the above comb provided at the root of the comb, the comb has the following problems when combing the pet hair: 1. The blade at the root of the comb may not touch the knotted hair that needs to be cut, or the blade of the comb cannot cut the knotted hair since there has been cut hair stuck at the root of the comb; and 2. unknotted hair will inevitably be cut off unnecessarily.
It is against this background that the present disclosure has been developed.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
Referring to Figures 1 to 7, there is shown a pet comb, according to an embodiment, that can be used to comb pet hair, cut knotted pet hair and/or thin overly thick pet hair. The pet comb 1 (also known as a pet-grooming tool or pet shaving tool) comprises a handle assembly 2, a mounting head 3 and a comb body 4. The handle assembly 2 is coupled to the mounting head 3, and the comb body 4 is configured to be inserted into the mounting head 3, wherein, as shown in Figure 1, the orientation of the comb body 4 is such that its back or rear side is consistent with the direction in which the pet comb moves when combing the hair. In other words, with reference to Figure 1, as the pet comb 1 is being used and pulled backwards to the right direction of Figure 1, the back or rear side follows the direction.
As shown in Figure 1, the pet comb 1 is configured to be moved or drawn through the pet hair alongside the skin of the pet, such that the comb body 4 is at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the pet skin. The comb body 4 comprises in its basic structure a base 41, and a plurality of comb teeth 42 extending from the base 41 with a certain gap between the adjacent comb teeth 42, in the same way as the comb teeth of a conventional household comb. Each of the comb teeth 42 comprise a first side whose orientation is consistent with the direction in which the pet comb moves when combing the hair, and at least one of the comb teeth is provided with a cutting blade 421 on its first side. In other words, as the pet comb 1 is being used and pulled backwards to the right direction of Figure 1, the cutting blade 421 follows the direction. Of course, the word “consistent” does not mean that the cutting blade 421 must be  exactly parallel with the direction of movement of the pet comb 1. In practice, there may be tolerance due to manufacturing limitations.
Referring now to Figures 8 and 9, where there is shown a comb body 4, according to a first embodiment, suitable for insertion into the mounting head of the pet comb 1. The comb body 4 comprises a plate-shaped base 41 and a row of strip-shaped metal comb teeth 42 extending from the plate-shaped base 41, wherein each of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 is provided with a cutting blade 421 whose orientation is consistent with the direction in which the comb moves when combing the hair. When the comb 1 is used to comb the pet hair, its moving direction is consistent with the orientation of the blade 421, which not only allows the knotted hair to be easily cut but also avoids cutting of unknotted hair to a certain extent. With the blade 421 perpendicular to the connected portion of the hairs, a certain force is applied to the blade 421 cut the knotted portion of hair.
As best shown in Figures 9, 17, 21 and 22, the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 are provided on a first, or back side (whose orientation is consistent with the direction in which the comb moves when combing the hair) with one or two curved notches 43, on the edge of which is provided the cutting blade 421. As shown in Figures 21 and 22, the curved notch 43 has a width, f, of 2.3 mm and a maximum depth, e, of 0.6 mm. It will be appreciated that as the pet comb 1 is moved through the pet hair, the cut knotted end of the hair will fall into the curved notch 43, and the blade on the curved notch 43 will cut the hair. It will further be appreciated that by virtue of the blade portion being disposed in the curved notch 43, this can prevent the user’s hand from being cut.
As shown in Figures 9 and 16, the bottom surface of the curved notch 43 is a curved surface that is inclined toward one side of the comb teeth. In order to facilitate the processing, the curved surface exhibits a regular change. It can be seen that the edge formed by the curved surface and a side 424 of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 is the cutting blade 421. An angle of 15 degrees to 85 degrees is formed between the curved surface and the side 424 of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42. It will be appreciated that the smaller the angle formed by the curved surface and the side 424 of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 is, the sharper the cutting blade 421 is, and conversely, the larger the angle formed by the curved surface and the side 424 of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42, the blunter the cutting blade 421 is. A sectional view in Figure 23 is obtained along a direction of A-Ain Figure 21, and an angle, a, is indicated therein. Since too sharp a blade is easily worn or blunted due to prolonged use, the sharpness of the cutting blade 421 can be carefully selected according to the metal material, the technics, the thickness of the pet hair to be combed, and the like.
As shown in Figures 8, 9, 13 and 14, the plate-shaped base 41 is made of a metal material and is integrally formed with the strip-shaped comb teeth 42, and the comb body is integrally formed of a metal material as a whole. The comb body may be manufactured from a stainless steel with a higher hardness to  keep the blade edge sharp for a long time, however it will be appreciated that suitable alternative materials could also be employed.
As shown in Figure 17, the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 further comprise a second, or front side whose orientation is opposite to the direction in which the comb moves when combing the hair, and front side has a first inclined surface 422 such that the end of the comb teeth have a shuttle shape. The shuttle-shaped end of the comb teeth facilitates the insertion of the comb teeth between the hairs with relatively little friction. As shown in Figure 17, the first inclined surface 422 and the back side of the comb teeth form an angle, a, of approximately 20 to 35 degrees.
As shown in Figures 13-16, the thickness, m, of a single comb tooth is 0.3-1 mm, the spacing, n, between adjacent comb teeth is 1-2 mm, and the length, b, of the comb teeth is generally controlled at 6-20 mm. It will be appreciated that the above values can be adjusted within the allowable range depending on the thickness of the pet hair and the like.
Referring now to Figures 10 and 11, where there is shown a comb body 4, according to a second embodiment. This embodiment is substantially the same as the first embodiment except that the configuration of the cutting blade 421 is different. The cutting blade 421 is a linear cutting blade located on the second, or back side of the comb body, that is, the orientation of this cutting blade is consistent with the direction in which the comb moves when combing the hair.
As shown in Figure 10, the linear cutting blade 421 is an intermediate edge of two symmetrical inclined surfaces; the smaller the angle between the two inclined surfaces, the sharper the cutting blade 421, and conversely, the larger the angle between the two inclined surfaces, the blunter the cutting blade 421.
As shown in Figures 11, 12 and 20, the plate-shaped base 41 is made of a plastic material, and each of the metal strip-shaped comb teeth 42 is provided at the rear end with a fitting portion 44, which is individually assembled and fixed into the plastic base 41. The plastic plate-shaped base 41 may be integrally molded from plastic, and then each of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 may be fixed in the plate-shaped base 41. In an alternate embodiment, the plate-shaped base 41 may also comprise two parts that are detachable; after the fitting portion 44 of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42 is fitted, the two parts are closed and fixed.
The length extending direction of the cutting blade 421 is consistent with the longitudinal direction of the strip-shaped comb teeth 42, that is, the cutting blade 421 is a linear blade, which can cut off the hair that is more severely knotted.
As shown in Figures 18 and 19, the cutting blade 421 has a second inclined surface 423, so that the end of each comb tooth has a shuttle shape; the second inclined surface 423 and the back side of the comb teeth form an angle, β, of 5 to 10 degrees; and the second inclined surface 423 is a blunt surface to protect the pet’s skin or the user’s hand from being cut.
