Abstract

The subject of the invention includes a method of filling and insulating gaps between an installed window frame or a door frame and a wall using thermal insulation layers, characterised in that a 0.1-lOmm thick layer of a waterproof insulating coating with low vapour insulation parameters is applied on the thermal insulation layer on the outside of a building, and a 0.1 -5mm thick layer of high vapour insulation parameters is applied on the thermal insulation layer inside the building.

Description

A method of filling and insulating gaps between an installed window frame or a door frame and a wall
The subject of the invention is a method of filling and insulating gaps between an installed window frame or a door frame and a wall.
Placement of a window or a door within an opening requires adequate expansion gaps to be maintained. Such gaps are filled with a layer of thermal insulation. The gaps are usually filled with polyurethane foam. The foam is hygroscopic, absorbs moisture from the surroundings and once wet, it loses thermal insulation properties, it is also not resistant to sunlight as it corrodes under the influence of UV radiation and the external part of the coating becomes brittle and falls off. This results in the need to use additional sealing layers or elements protecting expansion gaps against the negative influence of weather conditions.
The objective of the invention is to develop an precise, easy, durable, cost-saving and effective method of filling and insulating gaps between an installed window frame or a door frame and a wall.
The nature of the invention lies in the fact that a 0.1 -10mm thick layer of a waterproof insulating coating with low vapour insulation parameters is applied onto the thermal insulation layer on the outside of the building, and a 0.1 -5mm thick layer of a coating with high vapour insulation parameters is applied on the thermal insulating layer inside the building. This method ensures an effective and durable sealing and insulating barrier. The initially liquid or semi-liquid insulating layers precisely fill the entire surface of the expansion gap. After curing, the filling becomes a waterproof insulation layer, resistant to wind loads, mechanically durable and ensuring low thermal penetration.
High vapour insulation of the internal layer protects the thermal insulation of the gap against moisture present inside the building, and low vapour insulation of the external layer allows moisture to evaporate outside the building.
Example I
A 0.3mm-thick layer of semi-liquid, waterproof insulation coating is applied onto a level layer of thermal insulation using a roller. Inside the building, the 3mm-thick semi-liquid layer of a coating with high vapour insulation parameters is applied on the thermal insulation layer inside the gap using spraying tools or machines.
Example II
A 5 mm-thick layer of semi-liquid, waterproof insulation coating is applied onto a level layer of thermal insulation using a spraying machine. Inside the building, the 1 mm-thick semi-liquid layer of a coating with high vapour insulation parameters is applied on the thermal insulation layer inside the gap using a roller or a brush.
