Description

HOOKAH HEAD
FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a hookah head. More particularly, this invention relates to a disposable hookah head.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION The hookah is well known and widely used for vaporising and smoking tobacco, more particularly flavoured tobacco.
The hookah consists mainly of a container for receiving water, a head (also known as a bowl) that is mounted on the container for operatively receiving tobacco, and a hose which is connected to the container. More specifically, the head is mounted atop a vertical stand on the inside of which a downward stem extends from the mount for the head to inside the container. The hookah head is usually made from any of the materials consisting of clay, marble, glass or ceramic. In use, the container is filled with a liquid such as water so that the operatively lower end of the stem is submerged in the liquid, the head is filled with (flavoured) tobacco the top of which is covered with a layer of tinfoil through which holes are pierced, and an ignited coal is placed on top of the tinfoil in order to heat the tobacco located directly below the tinfoil. When a user draws on the hose, smoke generated from the tobacco is caused to move down the stem and through the water, which cools and filters the smoke, before the smoke is delivered to the user through the hose.
Once the tobacco inside the head is exhausted, the user needs to replenish it with fresh tobacco. Hookah tobacco is typically enhanced with flavouring syrups, molasses and/or glycerol to give hookah smoke its distinctive sweet smell and taste. Burning of the tobacco thus releases the glycerol and flavouring syrups added to the tobacco into the head, leaving behind a sticky residue. To replenish the head with fresh tobacco, the user needs to dispose of the burnt tobacco and clean the head of the sticky residue, then re-fill the head with fresh tobacco, cover the tobacco with a new layer of tinfoil and pierce holes through the fresh tinfoil. This is a time-consuming process and inconvenient to a user. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a disposable hookah head with which the aforementioned disadvantage could be overcome or at least be alleviated, and/or to provide a useful alternative to known devices.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention there is provided a disposable hookah head comprising:
- a base portion that is configured to operatively seat on a hookah, and - a receptacle portion extending from an operatively upper end of the base portion, for receiving a smokable substance therein.
According to an example embodiment of the invention, the receptacle portion may contain the smokable substance. Preferably, the smokable substance may be in the form of tobacco.
There is further provided for the receptacle portion to be, at least partially, covered by a barrier wherein the smokable substance is sealed in-between the barrier and receptacle portion.
According to the invention, the barrier may be bonded to an operatively upper edge of the receptacle portion. The barrier may be bonded to the operatively upper edge by means of any one selected from the group comprising an adhesive substance, heat and pressure.
The barrier may comprise tinfoil.
The head may be manufactured from ceramic material.
There is provided for the receptacle portion to have a hollow inverted dome-shaped appearance.
According to an example embodiment of the invention, the base portion may comprise a sleeve. These and other features of the invention are described in more detail below.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS The invention will now further be described, by way of a non-limiting example only, and with reference to the accompanying diagrams wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view from above of a disposable hookah head according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view from below of the disposable hookah head of
Figure 1 ; and
Figure 3 is a cross-section view along line III-IIG shown in Figure 1 .
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
With reference to the accompanying diagrams, a disposable hookah head according to a non-limiting example embodiment of the invention is generally indicated by reference numeral 10.
The disposable hookah head 10, that is manufactured from ceramic material, comprises a base portion 12 that is configured to operatively seat on a hookah (not shown), and a receptacle portion 14 that extends from an operatively upper end of the base portion 12, for receiving a smokable substance 16 therein, typically being in the form of tobacco.
The base portion 12 is in the form of a sleeve that has a truncated cone-like appearance which allows the head 10 to easily seat on the hookah. A resiliently deformable tube (not shown) is usually positioned in-between the head 10 and the hookah in order facilitate a tight seal between the two, as is well known in the art. The receptacle portion 14 has a hollow inverted dome-shaped appearance and includes a number of holes 18 that extend through it and which are in register with the inside of the base portion 12.
At least part of the receptacle portion 14 is covered by a barrier 20, being in the form of tinfoil. More specifically, an operatively open upper end of the receptacle portion 14, which contains the smokable substance 16, is covered by the barrier 20 wherein the smokable substance 16 is sealed in-between the barrier 20 and the receptacle portion 14. According to an example embodiment of the invention, the barrier 20 is bonded to an operatively upper end 22 of the receptacle portion. More specifically, the barrier 20 is sealed against the rim 22 of the receptacle portion 14 by means of an adhesive material (not shown).
Furthermore, although not shown, it should be appreciated that in another embodiment of the invention, an operatively lower open end of the base 12 may be closed-off by means of a cover (not shown) in order to prevent the smokable substance 16 from drying out. The cover could be removably attached over the open end. More specifically, the cover could be bonded to an operatively lower edge of the base 12. The cover may comprise a sheet-like article manufactured from tinfoil, plastics material, paper, or the like.
In use, the disposable hookah head 10, is removed from its packaging (not shown) and mounted on a hookah device, as is known in the art. The barrier 20 is pierced with any suitable tool in order to permit ambient air to pass through it and to come into contact with the smokable substance 16. It furthermore enables smoke generated from the smokable substance 16 to pass through the holes 20, down the base portion 12, through a remainder of the hookah and ultimately to a user, as is known in the art. When the smokable substance 16 in the head 10 is exhausted, a user can simply remove the head 10 from the hookah, discard it, and replace it with a new disposable hookah head 10. It will be appreciated that this is very convenient to a user as it is a quick process to carry out. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the invention is not limited to the precise details as described herein and that many variations are possible without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. For example, the barrier 20 could be bonded to the receptacle portion 14 by means of a heat-seal or pressure-seal. Also, the barrier 20 could be from any heat resistant material sheet. Furthermore, the head 10 could be manufactured from other suitable materials such as clay, marble, glass or metal.
The description is presented in the cause of providing what is believed to be the most useful and readily understood description of the principles and conceptual aspects of the invention. In this regard, no attempt is made to show details of the invention in more detail than is necessary for a fundamental understanding of the invention.
