Abstract

An embodiment herein provides a system and method for suggesting a suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of a first user. The system includes an apparel recommendation server (114) that is communicated to a first user device (104) and a second user device (110). The apparel recommendation server (110) (i) obtains apparel information from the second user device (110) of a second user (108), (ii) categorizes the apparel information, (iii) obtains body characteristics of the first user (102) from the first user device (104), (iv) calculates the body shape and the waist placement of the first user (102), (v) selects the suitable apparel from the apparel information stored in a server database (302) and (v) generates recommendation for the first user (102) based on the selected suitable apparel of the first user (102).

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RECOMMENDING SUITABLE APPAREL
USING BODY SHAPE AND WAIST PLACEMENT
BACKGROUND
Technical Field [0001] The embodiments herein generally relate to suggesting a suitable apparel, and more particularly, to a system and method for suggesting a suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of a user.
Description of the Related Art
[0002] Recent years have seen an overwhelming growth of electronic commerce in the apparel industry. One of the greatest problems plaguing both electronic/stores apparel merchants and customers is the difficulty in determining how garment will fit the customer and also the customers do not know which design will look good on their body type while shopping both online/offline. Online retailers spend millions of dollars every year processing the returns of customers who choose to buy cloths which have wrong size or have wrongly fitted their body shape, a style that does not flatter their figure or color that does not compliment their skin tone. Shoppers have difficult times visualizing how the garment would look on them without trying.

[0004] Automated methods like computer aided design program (e.g. Accumark MTM of Gerber scientific, FitNet of Lectra system and MtM.assyst of Assyst of GmbH) are used with body type information of the customer to measure the fitness of the garments to that specific customer. Istook and Devrajan felt that customization could be improved if it started form the most correctly shaped garments customized for each customer’s body type. Ashdown and Dunne noted that accuracy of body chart, reliability of body measurement data and fit preferences are critical elements in a system design to automate patternmaking (Ashdown, S.P., and Dunne L., A., Study of automated custom fit: Readiness of the technology with the apparel industry, Clothing Textile Res. J.24(2), 121-136, (2006). However even after interactive correction of these issues, researchers have found out that seven out of ten custom made garments by the system could not provide a good fit to the customer. Thus, the existing system could not provide a consistent good fit to the customer even after repeated correction for the issues enumerated in Ashdown and Dunne’s study.
[0005] Hence there is a need for a system for recommending suitable apparel that suits for a user with a particular body type, a waist placement and an event type pertaining to the user for consistent fitting.

[0006] In view of the foregoing, an embodiment herein provides a system for suggesting a suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of a first user. The system includes an apparel recommendation server that is communicated to a first user device and a second user device. The apparel recommendation server includes a memory that stores a set of instructions and a processor that executes the set of instructions and is configured to (i) obtain apparel information from the second user device of a second user, (ii) categorize the apparel information based on the apparel information provided by the second user, (iii) obtain body characteristics of the first user from the first user device, (iv) calculate the body shape and the waist placement of the first user based on the body characteristic information provided by the first user, (v) select the suitable apparel from the apparel information stored in the server database based on the calculated body shape and the waist placement of the first user and (v) generate recommendation to the first user based on the selected suitable apparel of the first user. The apparel information is at least one of neckline of the apparel, sleeves style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel, wherein the apparel information is stored in a server database. The body characteristics are (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hip and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline. The recommendation includes a suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel and current fashion trend of the first user.

The apparel information is at least one of neckline of the apparel, sleeves style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel, wherein the apparel information is stored in a server database. The body characteristics are (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hip and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline. The recommendation includes a suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel and current fashion trend of the first user.
[0013] In one embodiment, the method includes step of communicating the selected suitable apparel of the first user to the first user device.
[0014] In another embodiment, the method includes steps of (i) providing, using the first user device, questions to the first user to obtain the body characteristics information of the first user and (ii) communicating, using the first user device, the body characteristics information of the first user to the apparel recommendation server. The questions include (a) the height, (b) the shoulder measurement, (c) the hip and bust size, (d) the body type, (e) the skin tone, (f) the hair color, (g) the eye color, (h) the event type, (i) the location and (j) the waistline/magicline related to the first user.

[0015] In yet another embodiment, the method includes steps of (i) obtaining, using the first user device, the generated recommendation of the first user from the apparel recommendation server and (ii) displaying, using the first user device, the generated recommendation that is received from the apparel recommendation server to the first user.

The system ensures accurate fitting of the recommended apparel based on the body shape and the waist placement of the first user in particular. The server ensures for an accurate automatic categorization of the apparel information so that the apparel recommendation server recommends most suitable apparel to the first user. The system further suggests suitable apparel to the first user with relevant to the current fashion trend as well as a consisting fitting to the first user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0026] As mentioned, there remains a need for a system for recommending suitable apparel that suits for a user with a particular body type, a waist placement and an event type pertaining to the user for consistent fitting. The embodiments herein achieve this by providing an apparel recommendation system for recommending which apparel would suits the user as per the body shape and the waist placement and also provide with consistent fitting to the user. Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIGS. 1 to 6, where similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the figures, preferred embodiments are shown.
[0027] FIG. 1 illustrates a system view interacting with an apparel recommendation system 106 to obtain recommendation of suitable apparel to a first user 102 from an apparel recommendation server 114 through a network 112 according to an embodiment herein. The system view includes the first user 102, a first user device 104, the apparel recommendation system 106, a second user 108, a second user device 110, a network 112 and the apparel recommendation server 114. In one embodiment, the apparel recommendation system 106 is installed in the first user device 104. In one embodiment, the apparel recommendation system 106 is installed in the second user device 110. In one embodiment, the apparel recommendation system 106 is installed in the apparel recommendation server 114. An apparel recommendation such as suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel, current fashion trend etc. may be suggested to the first user 102. The first user 102

may be a male user or a female user. The second user 108 may be a designer of the apparel, a manufacturer of the apparel and/or a seller of the apparel. The first user 102 provides body characteristics information using the first user device 104. The first user device 104 may be a computer, a mobile phone, a kindle, a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), a tablet, an electronic notebook or a Smartphone or a smart screen. The body characteristics information may include but it is not limited to (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hips and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline etc., of the first user 102. The first user device 104 communicates the body characteristics information from the apparel recommendation system 106 to the apparel recommendation server 114 through the network 112. The network 112 may be but it is not limited to a wireless network, a local area network (LAN) and a wide area network (WAN) etc.
[0028] The apparel recommendation server 114 calculates the body shape and the waist placement of the first user 102 based on the body characteristics information obtained from the apparel recommendation system 106. The second user 108 communicates apparel information to the apparel recommendation server 114 using the second user device 110. The second user device 110 may be a computer, a mobile phone, a kindle, a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), a tablet, an electronic notebook or a Smartphone or a smart screen. The apparel recommendation system 106 may be a standalone application, an android application, an IOS, etc., running in a browser (e.g. the website) in the first user device 104. The apparel recommendation server 114 may be a computer, a mobile phone, a Personal computer (PC), a laptowp, a tablet, an electronic notebook or a Smartphone or a smart screen.
[0029] FIG. 2 illustrates an exploded view of the apparel recommendation system 106 of FIG. 1 according to an embodiment herein. The apparel recommendation system 106 includes a device database 202, a first user login module 204, a body characteristics information obtaining module 206, a body characteristic information communicating module 208, a suitable apparel information obtaining module 210 and a suggestion display module 212. The device database 202 stores the body characteristics information of the first user 102, and suggested apparel information from the apparel recommendation server 114. The first user login module 204 receives the body characteristics information about the first user 102 as the first user 102 login in the apparel recommendation system 106. The body characteristics information obtaining module 206 obtains the body characteristics information of the first user 102. The first user 102 provides about his or her body characteristics information by answering questions on the apparel recommendation system 106. The question asked to the first user 102 may be but not limited to (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hips and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color, (h) event type and (i) a location (j) waistline/magicline etc., related to the first user

102. The body characteristics information communicating module 208 communicates the body characteristics information of the first user 102 to the apparel recommendation server 114. The suitable apparel information obtaining module 210 obtains the information about a set of suitable apparels for the first user 102 from the apparel recommendation server 114. The suggestion display module 212 displays suggested apparel from the apparel recommendation server 114 on the first user device 104 to the first user 102.
[0030] FIG. 3 illustrates an exploded view of the apparel recommendation server 114 of FIG. 1 according to an embodiment herein. The exploded view of the apparel recommendation server 114 includes a server database 302, a second user login module 304, an apparel information receiving module 306, an apparel categorization module 308, an apparel information storage module 310, a body characteristics information obtaining module 312, a body shape and waist placement calculation module 314, an apparel selection module 316, an apparel suggestion module 318, and a suggested apparel information communication module 320. The second user login module 304 enables the second user 108 to login in the apparel recommendation server 114 and for providing apparel information through the second user device 110. The apparel information may be but it is not limited to neckline of the apparel, sleeves style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel etc., The apparel information receiving module 306 receives the apparel information from the second user device 110 of the second user 108 when the second user 108 login in the apparel recommendation server 114. The apparel categorization module 308 categorizes the apparel

information based on the apparel information provided by the second user 108 to the apparel recommendation server 114.
[0031] The apparel information is stored in the apparel recommendation server 114 through the apparel information storage module 310 to suggest the suitable apparel to the first user 102. The body characteristics information obtaining module 312 obtains the body characteristics information of the first user 102 from the apparel recommendation system 106. The body shape and waist placement calculation module 314 calculates the body shape and the waist placement of the first user 102 based on the body characteristic information communicated by the apparel recommendation system 106 to the apparel recommendation server 114. Among the body characteristics information communicated by the apparel recommendation system 106 to the apparel recommendation server 114, the shoulder, hip, bust, waistline or magicline, waist size of the first user 102 is used to calculate the body shape and the waist placement of the first user 102.
[0032] The apparel selection module 316 selects the suitable apparel from the apparel information stored in the server database 302. In an embodiment, the selected apparel is based on the calculated body shape and the waist placement of the first user 102. The apparel suggestion module 318 suggests the suitable apparel from the selected apparel information stored in the server database 302. The suggested apparel information communication module 320 communicates the suggested apparel information to the apparel recommendation system 106 to be displayed on the first user device 104 of the first user 102 to view the suggested suitable apparel.

[0033] FIG. 4 is a flow diagram illustrating a method for suggesting the suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of the first user 102 according to an embodiment herein. At step 402, the apparel information is obtained from the second user device 110 of the second user 108. The apparel information is at least one of neckline of the apparel, sleeves style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel. The apparel information is stored in a server database 302. At step 404, the apparel information is categorized based on the apparel information provided by the second user 108. At step 406, the body characteristics of the first user 102 is obtained from the first user device 104. The body characteristics are (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hip and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline of the first user 102. At step 408, the body shape and waist placement of the first user 102 is calculated based on the body characteristic information provided by the first user 102. At step 410, the suitable apparel is selected from the apparel information that is stored in the server database 302 based on the calculated body shape and the waist placement of the first user 102. The recommendation includes a suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel and current fashion trend of the first user 102. At step 412, the recommendation to the first user 102 is generated based on the selected suitable apparel of the first user 102.
[0034] FIG. 5 illustrates an exploded view of the first user device 104 of FIG. 1 according to the embodiments herein. The first user device 104 having a memory 502 having a set of computer instructions, a bus 504, a display 506, a speaker 508, and a processor 510 capable of processing a set of instructions to perform any one or more of the

methodologies herein, according to an embodiment herein. The processor 510 may also enable digital content to be consumed in the form of video for output via one or more displays 606 or audio for output via speaker and/or earphones 508. The processor 510 may also carry out the methods described herein and in accordance with the embodiments herein.

The I/O adapter 18 can connect to peripheral devices, such as disk units 11 and tape drives 13, or other program storage devices that are readable by the system. The system can read the

inventive instructions on the program storage devices and follow these instructions to execute the methodology of the embodiments herein.

Claims

I Claim:
1. A system for suggesting a suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of a first user (102), said system comprising:
an apparel recommendation server (114) that is communicated to a first user device (104) and a second user device (110), wherein said apparel recommendation server (114) comprises:
a memory that stores a set of instructions; and
a processor that executes said set of instructions and is configured to
obtain apparel information from the second user device (110) of a second user (108), wherein the apparel information is at least one of neckline of the apparel, sleeves style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel, wherein the apparel information is stored in a server database (302);
categorize the apparel information based on the apparel information provided by the second user (108);
obtain body characteristics of the first user (102) from the first user device (104), wherein said body characteristics are (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hip and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline of the first user (102);
calculate the body shape and the waist placement of the first user (102) based on the body characteristic information provided by the first user (102);

select the suitable apparel from the apparel information that is stored in the server database (302) based on the calculated body shape and the waist placement of the first user (102); and
generate recommendation for the first user (102) based on the selected suitable apparel of the first user (102), wherein the recommendation comprises a suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel and current fashion trend of the first user (102).
2. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the apparel recommendation server (114) communicates the generated recommendation of the first user (102) to the first user device (104).
3. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second user device (110)
obtains the apparel information that comprises the neckline of the apparel, the sleeves style, the waist size, the shoulder style, the height of the apparel, the bust size of the apparel, the arm size, the back depth, the waist placement of the apparel from the second user (108); and
communicates the apparel information to the apparel recommendation server
(114).
4. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first user device (104)

provides questions to the first user (102) to obtain the body characteristics information of the first user (102), wherein said questions comprise (a) the height, (b) the shoulder measurement, (c) the hip and bust size, (d) the body type, (e) the skin tone, (f) the hair color, (g) the eye color, (h) the event type, (i) the location and (j) the waistline/magicline related to the first user (102); and
communicates the body characteristics information of the first user (102) to the apparel recommendation server (114).
5. The system as claimed in claim 4, wherein said first user device (104) further
obtains the generated recommendation of the first user (102) from the apparel recommendation server (114); and
displays the generated recommendation that is received from the apparel recommendation server (114) to the first user (102).
6. The system as claimed in claim 4, wherein the body characteristics information of the first user (102), and the generated recommendation from the apparel recommendation server (114) is stored in a device database.
7. A method for suggesting a suitable apparel using body shape and waist placement of a first user (102), said method comprising:
obtaining apparel information from a second user device (110) of a second user (108), wherein the apparel information is at least one of neckline of the apparel, sleeves

style, waist size, shoulder style, height of the apparel, bust size of the apparel, arm size, back depth, waist placement of the apparel, wherein the apparel information is stored in a server database (302);
categorizing the apparel information based on the apparel information provided by the second user (108);
obtaining body characteristics of the first user (102) from a first user device (104), wherein said body characteristics are (a) height, (b) shoulder measurement, (c) hip and bust size, (d) body type, (e) skin tone, (f) hair color, (g) eye color (h) location and (g) waistline/magicline ;
calculating body shape and waist placement of the first user (102) based on the body characteristic information provided by the first user (102);
selecting the suitable apparel from the apparel information that is stored in the server database (302) based on the calculated body shape and the waist placement of the first user (102); and
generating recommendation for the first user (102) based on the selected suitable apparel of the first user (102), wherein the recommendation comprises a suitable apparel, an apparel type, color combination of the apparel and current fashion trend of the first user (102).
8. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the method includes step of communicating the selected suitable apparel of the first user (102) to the first user device
(104).

9. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the method includes steps of
providing, using the first user device (104), questions to the first user (102) to obtain the body characteristics information of the first user (102), wherein said questions comprise (a) the height, (b) the shoulder measurement, (c) the hip and bust size, (d) the body type, (e) the skin tone, (f) the hair color, (g) the eye color, (h) the event type, (i) the location and (j) the waistline/magicline related to the first user (102); and
communicating, using the first user device (104), the body characteristics information of the first user (102) to the apparel recommendation server (114).
10. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the method includes steps of
obtaining, using the first user device (104), the generated recommendation of the first user (102) from the apparel recommendation server (114); and
displaying, using the first user device (104), the generated recommendation that is received from the apparel recommendation server (114) to the first user (102).
