Abstract

The invention aims to provide a simple, convenient and effective method for purifying outdoor air. The system (100) can be widely popularized on taxis, buses and official business vehicles in cities, so that the influence of haze in the cities can be actively eliminated. A principle of the system (100) includes a simple detachable air purifier which is mounted to the top of a motor vehicle, air flows into the device by the aid of advancing action of the motor vehicle and is purified by mesh layer (104) and cassette assembly (500), and then clean air can be exhausted. The system has the advantage that purposes of purifying the outdoor air and reducing the influence of the haze can be achieved.

Description

A DETACHABLE VEHICLE MOUNTABLE AIR PURIFIER FOR FILTERING OUTDOOR AIR
Embodiments described herein relate to a detachable air purifier that is mountable on a vehicle. More particularly the embodiments relate to an apparatus and a system for filtering outdoor air. Further, the present invention relates to a method of using a motor vehicle for outdoor air purification and pertains to the field of environmental protection.
The importance of clean air is well known in today’s scenario and has increasingly become the subject of governmental and private concern. Lack of clean air that is contaminated with pollutants can be linked to various illnesses and physical ailments.
The air pollution can be linked to various causes that include both natural and man-made ones. Natural air pollution is from volcanoes, biological decay, forest fires, etc. and man-made pollutants are majorly caused due to burning of fossil fuels. As humans do not have any control over natural pollutants however, we can control the pollution from man-made resources.
In view of the same many air purifier devices and systems are developed for indoor air purification. However, nothing much has been done for outdoor air purification.
Unfortunately, the lack of innovation and effective investment in research and development to address the issues which had no solution to these problems. Accordingly, there exists a need for innovation in relation to this technology in the market.
Hence, the present disclosed invention focuses to provide for an apparatus and system for detachable Air Purifier for open area cleaning. The users can attach the air purifier on their vehicles and can aid in cleaning the outside air on the go.
However, this summary is not an extensive overview of the disclosure. It is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of the disclosure, nor to delineate the scope of the present disclosure. Rather, the sole purpose of this summary is to present some concepts of the disclosure, its objects, and advantages in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented hereinafter.
The present invention is to provide a simple yet effective system and method of outdoor air purification, which shall be widely promoted in the city by taxi, bus and vehicles used by general public, in order to eliminate the influence of urban haze resulting from particulate matter dispersed in air.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a detachable Air Purifier for purification of air in open area.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a light weight detachable Air Purifier capable of purifying environmental air in an open area at a large scale.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a light weight detachable Air Purifier that can be installed or mounted on any vehicle for purifying environmental air in an open area at a large scale.
A yet another object of the present invention is to provide a Detachable Vehicle Mountable Air Purifier capable of purifying environmental air in an open area at a large scale without use of any extra energy source i.e. fan or motor.
The foregoing summary, as well as the following detailed description of various embodiments, is better understood when read in conjunction with the drawings provided herein. For the purposes of illustration, there is shown in the drawings exemplary embodiments; however, the presently disclosed subject matter is not limited to the specific methods and instrumentalities disclosed.

The presently disclosed subject matter is described with specificity to meet statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this patent. Rather, the inventors have contemplated that the claimed subject matter might also be embodied in other ways, to include different steps or elements similar to the ones described in this document, in conjunction with other present or future technologies.
It is to be understood that both the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory only, and are not restrictive of the invention, as claimed. In this application, the use of the singular includes the plural, the word "a" or "an" means "at least one", and the use of "or" means "and/or", unless specifically stated otherwise. Furthermore, the use of the term "including", as well as other forms, such as "includes" and "included", is not limiting. Also, terms such as "element" or "component" encompass both elements and components comprising one unit and elements or components that comprise more than one unit unless specifically stated otherwise.
The above noted and other objects, in one aspect, may be achieved by an apparatus or a system of the present disclosure. The system includes a detachable vehicle mountable Air Purifier for Open Air Cleaning comprising an apparatus and unique method for filtering of outdoor air that can be removably associated to any vehicle.
The present disclosure illustrates, as shown in FIG. 1, a detachable Air Purifier (100) for filtering outdoor air. The apparatus comprises a case (102), a mesh layer (104), a plurality of filter layers (shown in FIG. 5A and FIG. 5B), an outlet in the apparatus (shown in FIG. 4) and a plurality latching assemblies (106) present on either side. The Air Purifier can be removably mounted on any vehicle and can clean the air when the vehicle is in movement.
Further, the approximate roof height of any vehicle is between 5-8feet and it has been shown that at this height there is maximum concentration of suspended particulate matter. Hence, the Air Purifier will be most effective at this height by filtering maximum amount of suspended particulate matter in the air.
Furthermore, the case (102) of the detachable Air Purifier (100) is made of a light weight material so as to avoid excess weight on the vehicle. The case (102) of the detachable Air Purifier (100) is preferably made of aluminum or any similar lightweight material thereof. The case (102) can also be made from magnesium alloys, aluminum alloys, carbon fibers, polymer composites, and the like.
In one of the exemplary embodiment, the detachable Air Purifier (100) is provided with the mesh layer (104) in the front which is in direct contact with the open area environment and provides path to inlet air. The mesh layer acts as a filter layer for big objects suspended in the air which can block the intake air into the detachable Air Purifier system (100) if get stuck in front of the Air Purifier system. These big particles may include leaves, poly bags, papers and so forth.
In one of the exemplary embodiment, the mesh layer (104) is made of metallic wire or fiber or plastic or any similar material which can sustain the inlet air pressure or drag.
In one of the exemplary embodiment, the detachable Air Purifier (100) does not require any additional source of energy. The detachable Air Purifier (100) does not use any motor and/or fan to filter the air. Hence, the detachable Air Purifier (100) does not put any extra load on the vehicle and will not increase fuel consumption.
The system (100) further comprises a plurality of latching assemblies (106) present on either side which is used to removably mount the system on the exterior of any vehicle. Preferably, the system (100) is mounted on the top of the vehicle. The latching assembly is designed in a novel manner for quick and easy installation without a need for any conventional fastener. At the system ends, the latching assembly initially is formed as two relatively simple subassemblies adapted to be fitted into the vehicle roof (202) and the handle 108 thereon for fastening the system on the top of the vehicle together by moving the handle in clockwise direction. Further, the handle can be moved in anti-clockwise direction for releasing the system from the vehicle roof.
Figure 2 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the system as mounted on the vehicle (200). The system is fastened or mounted on the top or roof of the vehicle with the help of the latching assembly 106. As shown, the system is mounted in such a manner that the mesh layer (104) is in direct contact with the environment and facilitate the entry of external air into the system. Thus, the mesh layer act as the inlet for the system.
Further, the system is mounted in such a manner that the mesh layer faces the direction of movement of the vehicle.
Figure 3 illustrates the front view of the detachable air purifying system (100). As shown in the figure, the mesh layer (104) is in the front of the system followed by the cassette assembly (not shown in FIG. 3). The mesh layer and the cassette assembly are fitted or assembled inside the case 102. Further, the mesh layer provides an inlet path to external air into the system for purification.
Figure 4 illustrates the back view of the detachable air purifying system (100). The back layer (402) is for covering the system from back or rear side. It comprises a mesh type structure which may be similar to the mesh layer 104. The back layer provides outlet path to the purified air into the environment.
Figure 5A illustrates the cassette assembly (500) used for the purification of inlet air. The cassette assembly comprises three filter layers 502, 504 and 506.
In one of the preferred embodiment, these filter layers are three in number, where each filter layer is used to filter different sized particulate matter in the air. The first filter layer (502) is the outermost layer which filters the bigger sized suspended particulate matter of the air. The first filter layer (502) filters the suspended particulate matter ranging from 5-10ppm. The first filter layer (502) is preferably made of foam like material and it can be washed, cleaned and replaced.
Further, the second filter layer (504) filters the medium sized suspended particulate matter of the air. The second filter layer (504) filters the suspended particulate matter ranging from 2.5-5ppm. The second filter layer (504) is preferably made of foam like material and it can be washed, cleaned and replaced.
Further, the third filter layer (506) filters small sized suspended particulate matter of the air. The third filter layer (506) filters the suspended particulate matter up to 2.5ppm. The third filter layer (506) is preferably made of cotton and it can be replaced.
In one of the preferred embodiment, the external air enters the system via the mesh layer 104 and interacts with the first filter layer (502) which filter the suspended particulate matter ranging from 5-10ppm and allows the passage of filtered air to interact with second filter layer 504. The second filter layer filters the suspended particulate matter ranging from 2.5-5ppm and allows the passage of filtered air to interact with the third filter layer 506.The third filter layer filters the suspended particulate matter ranging up to 2.5ppm and allows the passage of filtered air into the environment via the back layer 402.
Experimental Data
The data provided here is experimental data and the prototype is tested in extreme conditions in Delhi over a drive of about 80 to 100 kilometers.

Claims (20)

  1. A vehicle mounted detachable air purifier system (100) for purification of open area environment comprises:

  3. a mesh layer (104), wherein the mesh layer is in direct contact with the open area environment and provides path to inlet air;
  4. a cassette assembly (500), wherein the cassette assembly comprises:
  5. a first filter layer (502), wherein the first filter layer is configured to filter particle sizes in the range of 5-10 ppm from the inlet air;
  6. a second filter layer (504), wherein the second filter layer is configured to filter particle sizes in the range of 2.5-5 ppm from the inlet air; and
  7. a third filter layer (506), wherein the third filter layer is configured to filter particle sizes up-to 2.5 ppm from the inlet air; and
    a latching assembly (106),wherein the latching assembly is designed to removably mount the air purifier system on to the vehicle.
  8. The case as claimed in claim 1, wherein the case (102) is made of light weight material.
  9. The mesh layer (104) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mesh layer (104) provides protection from clogging of the air purifier system by blocking large objects that can cause hindrance to the path of inlet air.
  10. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the system (100) does not require any additional source of energy for purifying the air.
  11. The first filter layer (502) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first filter layer (502) is made from a foam like material which is washable and replaceable.
  12. The second filter layer (504) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second filter layer (504) is made from foam like material which is washable and replaceable.
  13. The third filter layer as claimed in claim 1, wherein the third filter layer (506) is made from cotton which is replaceable.
  14. The cassette assembly (500) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cassette assembly (500) comprises at-least three filter layers.
  15. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the system (100) is used for large scale air purification.
  16. A method for cleaning outside environmental air comprising:
  17. assembling a cassette module with at-least three filter layers into a case;
  18. mounting the case on exterior of a vehicle;
  19. facilitating inlet of outside air by driving the vehicle; and
  20. purifying the inlet air by passing through the cassette module.
