Description

"Flexible tube disposable assembly with filter mouthpiece and water pipe adapter”
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a flexible tube assembly with a filter mouthpiece and a water pipe adapter. In particular, the invention refers to a flexible tube and disposable filter mouthpiece assembly.
Background of the Invention
The term water pipe means known devices such as hookahs, bongs and similar which are used for smoking, for example tobacco and flavored tobacco. A typical water pipe consists of several elements:
- an upper entrance, generally in the form of a mouthpiece, placed at the head of a flexible tube;
- a room or base containing water and smoke;
- a stem placed in the base protruding outside the chamber until it exits outside the chamber itself, even at a level much higher than that of the water;
- a container/brazier for the substance to be smoked, placed at the end of the stem, usually in the form of a removable cap or a container cone, wherein the substance to be smoked must be placed and then lit.
In order to use the water pipe, the smoker must suck from the upper entrance, so that the smoke coming from the brazier rises to the inner tube after passing through the stem and the water on the bottom.
Water pipe filters are known (FR 2798826), but they have the disadvantage of not being disposable and need to be cleaned periodically, furthermore they do not adapt to different types of water pipes.
Flexible tubes for water pipes are also known (WO 01/97641), which comprise an attachment suitable to be inserted in the special seat of the hookah and a mouthpiece with a filter, the central part of which is made of synthetic material sufficiently resistant to the flattening in a manner such that it does not close during its use.
Disposable type filters are known (IT 281.479 in the name of the same owner), but they have the disadvantage that saliva residues can remain inside the flexible tube and that, associated with the naturally occurring condensate, generate excessive concentrations of bacterial charges. The latter may be harmful for the successive use, making these devices non-hygienic according to the new sanitary rules adopted by many countries, and making obligatory to equip the water pipes not only with a disposable mouthpiece, but also with a disposable flexible tube, in order to avoid not only the use by several people of the mouthpiece with filter, but also of the flexible tube.
Summary of the Invention
It is therefore an object of present invention a flexible tube assembly for water pipes consisting of a single disposable device and comprising:
a first rigid tube portion provided at its end with an adapter element made of soft resilient rubber, such that it can be inserted inside a seat of a water pipe;
a second, flexible, plastic tube portion;
a third plastic tube portion, which is rigid and shaped so as to form a grip for easy handling;
a plastic mouthpiece provided with a filter body of the cellulose acetate type, this mouthpiece being arranged at the free end of the third tube portion;
wherein the three tube portions and the mouthpiece are in fluid communication and joined together as a single sealed part.
Another object of the invention is a water pipe provided with the flexible tube including a filter in a single disposable type device according to the present invention. Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description of a preferred embodiment.
Brief description of the figures
The description of the invention will be better understood with reference to the attached figures, which represent a preferred embodiment thereof by way of a non-limiting example.
Figure 1 shows a schematic view of the basic elements forming a water pipe, in this case a hookah;
Figure 2 shows a schematic embodiment of the flexible tube assembly with a filter mouthpiece of the disposable type according to the invention;

Detailed Description of the Invention.
With reference to the invention, Figure 1 schematically shows the general structure of a water pipe comprising a cruet containing water and comprising a space suitable to form the chamber in which the smoke accumulates, obtained by burning the substance inside the brazier (typically plant products such as tobacco) that is located in the container/brazier placed at the head of a stem that connects the brazier itself and the inside of the cruet. The smoke is sucked through a blowpipe (more blowpipes for each pipe can be provided), that is generally in the form of a flexible tube, one end of which is provided with means of coupling with the cruet, while the free end of the tube provides a mouthpiece with a cellulose acetate filter element. According to another embodiment, the filter itself can act as a mouthpiece.
With reference to Figures 2, 3 and 4, the flexible tube disposable assembly 1 with filter mouthpiece and adapter comprises in a single disposable device a first rigid tube portion 2, for example of high impact polystyrene, provided at its end with an adapter element 3 made of soft elastic rubber suitable to be inserted tightly in a convenient seat of a water pipe.
The adapter element 3 is advantageously configured so as to be inserted in seats of different size/diameter, so as to constitute a substantially universal adapter for the different types of existing pipes. According to an embodiment example, this is achieved by a conformation of the adapter 3 in the form of a flared hollow body 3 of soft elastic rubber, for example with a generally frustum-shaped longitudinal section, the lower base of which is adapted to be arranged inside the pipe and whose larger base, opposite to the previous one in the longitudinal direction, is able to form the coupling seat with the first tube portion 2.
The tube assembly 1 further comprises a second plastic flexible tube portion 4, preferably of the corrugated type, which gives greater flexibility and strength to the tube and avoids crushing during use, and a third rigid plastic portion 5, for example of crystalline polystyrene (GPPS), shaped so as to constitute a comfortable grip to be easily handled and retained by the user.
This second portion of corrugated tube 4 is preferably made of a plastic material selected from the following polymers: low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyethylenefuranoate (PEF), perfluoroalkoxy (PFA), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidenfluoride (PVDF), ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), silicone vinyl, braided silicone. Preferably, low density polyethylene (LDPE) is used to make the corrugated portion 4. The free end of the third portion 5 consists of and/or houses a mouthpiece 6, preferably of crystalline polystyrene (GPPS), provided with a filtering body 7 of the cellulose acetate type.
Indicatively, the filtering body 7 is contained/inserted in the mouthpiece 6 and has a length generally between 15 and 25 mm, preferably between 18 and 22 mm, with a diameter generally between 11 and 16 mm, preferably between 12 and 15 mm.
A head portion 6' of the mouthpiece 6 is designed with a rounded and smooth edge to allow a comfortable contact with the lips of the water pipe user.
With particular reference to the filtering body 7, the latter can be made of traditional materials, preferably of a cellulose acetate material, generally in the form of fibers (cellulose fibers of food grade in line with the standards of the sector), suitably pressed and wrapped in a porous filter paper.
However, according to a preferred aspect of the invention, the material is pressed so as to have a density such as to allow a pressure drop (or resistance to inhalation) of less than 100 mm of water column (Water Gauge), preferably 50-80 mm, more preferably 65-75 m of water column (Water Gauge) [1 mm WG is equal to 9.8 Pascal] In comparison, the filters of the cigarettes have a pressure drop of 250 mm of water column, too high and absolutely unacceptable for large filters, such as those used in the device of the present invention, as it does not allow an adequate flow of smoke. In fact, filters with a pressure drop in the order of 250 mm WG clog within a few minutes, making them unusable when used in water pipes.
Furthermore, the paper used to wrap the filter preferably has a porosity in CORESTA units in the range 65-75 CU, preferably about 70 CU (CORESTA Unit). Such a porosity of the paper surrounding the filtering body facilitates the flow of air into and around the filter and keeps its density and compactness constant. The CORESTA unit is a measure of the permeability of the cigarette paper, defined as the flow (in cm3 mhr1) passing through 1 cm2 of the sample under test with an applied pressure of 1.00 kPa.
The filtering body 7 can have a transparent plastic coating, for example of the BOPP type (polypropylene), which maintains the structure and the material of the filter protected from moisture, intact and avoids cleavage, even in the eventuality of a second personal use of the mouthpiece.
The whole mouthpiece 6 is preferably coated and heat-sealed in an adherent and non-removable way, as a guarantee and safety seal, by a thin plastic covering film, for example of the BOPP type (bi-oriented polypropylene) which guarantees the fact of being new, intact and hygienic.
The conformation of the flexible tube assembly 1 in three portions ensures a convenient and economical production. The three portions are hot-assembled so as to constitute a single sealed piece by means of a production process which may include, for example, the following steps:
- manufacturing a first rigid plastic tube portion (2) provided at its end with an adapter element (3) made of soft resilient rubber such that it may be sealingly inserted inside a seat of a water pipe;
- manufacturing a second, flexible, plastic tube portion (4);
- manufacturing a third plastic tube portion (5) which is rigid and shaped so as to form a grip for easy handling;
- manufacturing a plastic mouthpiece (6) provided with a filter body (7) of the cellulose acetate type and arranged at the free end of the third portion (5); - joining together using heat the three tube portions (2, 4, 5) so that they are in fluid communication and joined together as a single sealed piece.
Clearly, if the portions are separated, a reassembly of the same does not guarantee the same tightness and adhesion, thus indicating the lack of integrity of the device.
The disposable flexible tube assembly with filter mouthpiece and water pipe adapter according to the invention has the following advantages:
- It is of the disposable type, in line with the legislation of different countries.
- It allows an easy inhalation of the smoke, also thanks to the characteristics of the filtering body 7, made of cellulose acetate with a pressure drop not exceeding 100 mm WG. These elements are in a cooperative relationship each other and allow an adequate flow of smoke from the tube of the pipe to the user's mouth.
- It preserves the aroma of tobacco, due to the material in which it is made (typically polystyrene).
- it allows a lasting and hygienic use for a whole session of smoke (typically 90-120 min) and is designed to be single use.
- The entire disposable flexible tube assembly 1 can be packaged according to the health safety guidelines in plastic bags or cellophane and is eventually subjected to UV sterilization to eliminate the risk of a possible bacterial contamination.
