Definitions
- the present invention falls in the field of the treatment and disinfection of water or other liquids, more specifically it is referred to a box for open system of disinfection of water or other liquids by application of UV light.
- UV light has been used since the beginning of the last century as a reliable and safe disinfection system with reduced environmental costs in water treatment.
- the shortage of fresh water has driven sustainable technologies to meet the growing demand for clean and sanitary water.
- An ultraviolet disinfection system is conceptually simple, consists of a UV radiation chamber, one or more ultraviolet lamps installed inside quartz protective tubes in contact with water, sensors and an electrical cabinet for feeding and control of the UV system.
- the existing UV disinfection equipment is a closed type, which implies another type of structure and dimensions for its installation as well as the conduits or pipes that will carry the water to said equipment and discharge or outlet; also open-type ios are on the market, but for the functionality of these, a concrete construction has to be carried out for the installation of UV lamps and channels for water entry, which implies a greater area for functionality of it and its infrastructure is bigger so its cost is higher.
- a search was carried out to be able to define the state of the closest technique, finding the following related documents.
- US Patent No. 5,660, 719 (which we have designated as document D1) of Mark E. Kurtz and Paul Albertazzi, dated December 23, 1994, which discloses an apparatus for the treatment of a fluid including a housing, was located. separate and an enclosure for at least one ballast and electrical means, respectively, to control the operation of a plurality of vertically placed UV lamps that are immersed in a fluid to be treated.
- Each compartment serves as an individually insulated area to provide enhanced accessibility, maintenance and maximum performance of the various components of an ultraviolet light purification apparatus in the environment intended for its operation and use.
- Document D1 discloses an ultraviolet light apparatus for the purification of a fluid comprising: a plurality of ultraviolet lamps arranged vertically; means for allowing the lamps to be submerged in the fluid to be treated; at least one ballast to feed said lamps; at least one housing to contain the ballast inside; electrical means that provide communication between the ballast and the lamps to allow the operation of the lamps; and at least one enclosure disposed between the housing and the plurality of UV lamps for containing the electrical means therein; wherein each of the lamps is vertically aligned with said enclosure.
- US Patent No. US7981285 B2 (which has been designated as document D2) was also placed by George W. Thorpe, July 7, 2008.
- Said document D2 discloses a drinking water system, comprising: at least one container in which a volume of water is resident for a prolonged period during operation of said system and at least one UV lamp mounted in said container for subjecting said volume of water to antimicrobial UV Radiation during said period in which said water is resident in said container, said UV lamp being enclosed within a protective quartz sleeve in said interior of said container and immersed in water during the operation of said system; said container being a faucet having said UV lamp and a quartz sleeve mounted on a spigot portion thereof. Also found is patent US5208461 (which we have called document D3) by Frederick D.
- a closed wastewater disinfection system comprising: a flow treatment chamber for treating water residuals, said chamber having an inlet end and an outlet end for waste water; and a plurality of tube-type ultraviolet lamps placed in a parallel arrangement within said treatment chamber during the operation of the system, said series of lamps being disposed at an acute angle with respect to the flow of waste water therethrough and transverse manner, so that the wastewater passes through said set of ultraviolet lamps as it flows through said treatment chamber and is disinfected in this way, said set of lamps fulfill the dual functions of disinfecting the wastewater and act as a flow control baffle to direct the flow of wastewater.
- US Patent No. 6454937 (which has been designated as document D4) by Isaac Horton, et al. of October 20, 2000, which reveals a system of disinfection of water, comprising: a housing having a vertically oriented axis; a water inlet disposed at a lower end of said housing; a water outlet disposed in said lower end of the housing; a plurality of vertically oriented channels within said housing, each housing a separate flow water column in the interior, each of said channels having an open upper end and an interior channel space extending downwardly from said upper end to a lower end, separated from a bottom of said housing to form a common manifold in communication with the inlet to introduce water into said channels; and a source of ultraviolet (UV) light disposed above said plurality of vertically oriented channels to direct UV light down through the open upper end of each of said channels.
- UV ultraviolet
