Description

Title: Device for attaching mutually attachable and alignable picture screens thereto in order to create a video wall
Description
According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a device for attaching mutually attachable and alignable picture screens thereto in order to create a video wall.
In particular, the invention is aimed at a device on which a number of picture screens provided next to and/or above one another, such as for example LED matrix tiles, can be attached. The image which is displayed on the individual picture screens may form part of a larger collective image, wherein, due to the use of LED matrix tiles, the image is free from disruptive lines as known LED matrix tiles do not have an edge surrounding the LED matrix, such as a bezel.
With a known device, the picture screens are mutually attached in order to produce a desired alignment of the picture screens and the picture screens are connected to the device for attaching the picture screens to a support, such as a wall, ceiling and/or floor. To this end, the picture screens to be connected may be provided with coupling means which are configured to press a picture screen against neighbouring picture screens and thus align the picture screen with the neighbouring picture screens. A drawback of the known device is the fact that this can be improved with regard to the durability of the video wall to be produced.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device to create a video wall with improved durability.
This object is achieved by the device according to Claim 1 by the fact that the coupling members, the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets are configured to allow, in a coupled position, a movement of each coupling member with respect to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets for mutually attaching and mutually aligning the picture screens to be connected to the device. Allowing this movement of the coupling members when using the device ensures that the picture screens can be mutually coupled and thus align with neighbouring picture screens. With this mutual attachment of the picture screens, the picture screens can move with respect to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets. This prevents or at least greatly reduces the induction of stresses in the picture screens and the device as a result of the attachment of the picture screens to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets due to the alignment. The present invention is at least partly based on the insight that the known device is configured to fix the picture screens on a rigid construction by means of screws. Consequently, stresses in the rigid construction and the picture screens occurring during mutual attachment of the picture screens result from dimensional tolerances of the device and the picture screens. By preventing or at least greatly reducing such induced stresses, the risk of a picture screen or the device prematurely failing is reduced.
An additional advantage of the present invention is the fact that it is relatively less expensive to produce a video wall. Due to the fact that the coupling members are movable with respect to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets, it is ensured that the device according to the present invention can have relatively large dimensional tolerances. As a result thereof, the costs of producing the device are reduced.
A further additional advantage of the present invention is the fact that the durability of the video wall is improved with regard to a desired alignment of the picture screens during the lifespan of the video wall. Due to the fact that the picture screens can be mutually aligned and attached independently from the device in order to thus prevent, or at least greatly reduce, stresses on the picture screens induced by the device, it is ensured that the screens do not, or only to a limited degree, move with respect to each other due to such induced stresses during the lifespan of the video wall. As a result thereof, the introduction of disruptive lines in the collective image of the video wall is greatly reduced during the lifespan of the video wall.
In the instances above or below where the terms vertical or horizontally are used, these are to be interpreted in the situation in which the device according to the invention is used.
In this case, it is advantageous if, in the coupled position, the coupling members are movable in a horizontal first direction which, in use, extends parallel to the video wall and in a vertical second direction which, in use, extends parallel to the video wall, wherein the second direction is substantially at right angles to the first direction, in order to allow the mutual attaching and mutual aligning of the picture screens to be connected to the device. This is advantageous in order to enable the screens to mutually align in a picture screen surface of the video wall during fastening to each other in order thus for the rows and columns of the pixels of the picture screens to match up. In an embodiment, it is advantageous if, in the coupled position, the coupling members are movable in a third direction in order to allow the mutual attaching and mutual aligning of the picture screens to be connected to the device, wherein the third direction, at least in use, is substantially at right angles to the first direction and the second direction. This is advantageous for aligning the picture screens in a direction which is directed substantially at right angles to the picture screen surface of the video wall in order to produce a substantially flat picture screen surface of the video wall in order to achieve a relatively good picture quality.
In a practical embodiment, each attaching member comprises an, at least in use, horizontally extending, elongate first profiled section. A number of supporting members can be connected next to each other to such horizontal profiled sections in order to thus produce a relatively large video wall in which several picture screens are provided next to each other.
In a practical embodiment, each supporting member comprises an, at least in use, vertically extending, elongate second profiled section. Such a vertical profiled section is advantageous for attaching a number of picture screen brackets above one another.
It is advantageous if the attaching brackets of each supporting member comprise a first attaching bracket and a second attaching bracket, wherein one of the first attaching bracket and the second attaching bracket is configured to be fastened to an attaching member of the pair of attaching members and wherein the one of the first attaching bracket and the second attaching bracket is connected to the supporting member so as to be pivotable, via a first pivot bracket, about a horizontal pivot axis which, in use, extends parallel to the picture screens. This is advantageous for attaching the supporting member to the attaching member using a relatively simple operation in a relatively short time.
In this case, it is advantageous if the first pivot bracket is provided with an adjustment member for, at least in use, adjusting the supporting member in a vertical direction with respect to the pair of attaching members. This is advantageous in order to enable a relatively large tolerance for the mutual positioning of the pair of attaching members while maintaining a detachable fastening of the supporting members to the attaching members.
In an embodiment of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention, one of the first attaching bracket and the second attaching bracket comprises a latching member for latching the pair of supporting members onto the pair of attaching members. This is advantageous in order to produce a relatively reliable and durable fastening between the supporting members and the attaching members.
In a practical embodiment of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention, the pivot axis is formed by a pivot member, wherein, in a first position of the pivot member, the one of the first attaching bracket and the second attaching bracket is pivotable about the horizontal pivot axis with respect to the supporting member and, in a second position of the pivot member, the one of the first attaching bracket and the second attaching bracket is blocked for pivoting about the horizontal pivot axis with respect to the supporting member. This is advantageous so as to be able to attach the supporting members to the attaching members relatively easily when fitting the device, wherein a relatively robust and stable device is obtained by blocking pivoting about the horizontal pivot axis.
Preferably, the device is provided with fixing members for fixing the second end brackets to a supporting member of the pair of supporting members. This is advantageous in order to ensure a relatively reliable fastening of the second end brackets to the supporting members and thus to hold a bottom picture screen on the device in a relatively reliable manner.
It is advantageous if the first end brackets and the second end brackets are provided on the supporting members so as to be displaceable in an, at least in use, vertical direction. This is advantageous in order to bring about a coupling of a coupling member and the end brackets during installation in a relatively practical manner in a relatively short time. By configuring the end brackets to be displaceable, it is not necessary to align the end brackets relatively accurately before fitting the picture screens.
In this case, it is advantageous if the device is provided with blocking members for blocking a displacement of the first end brackets and the second end bracket beyond a bottom end and a top end of the supporting members. This is advantageous in order to prevent a picture screen to be attached using the device, a connection between the first and/or the second end bracket and the supporting member from being interrupted, during installation of the video wall, for example due to vertical positioning of the end bracket with respect to the supporting member, as a result of which a picture screen to be attached becomes damaged, for example due to the picture screen falling. In a practical embodiment, the device is provided with setting elements for setting and maintaining an, at least in use, vertical position of the screen brackets on a supporting member of the pair of supporting members. This is advantageous in order to set a position of the screen brackets during installation in a relatively practical manner in a relatively short time so as to ensure a coupling of a coupling member and the screen brackets at a desired position. By designing the screen brackets to be adjustable, it is not necessary to align the screen brackets relatively accurately before fitting the picture screens.
In this case, it is advantageous if each supporting member is provided with a receiving space extending in a longitudinal direction of the supporting member, wherein each setting element is at least partly accommodated in the receiving space and is displaceable in the receiving space in order to set an, at least in use, vertical position of a screen bracket on a supporting member of the pair of supporting members. This is advantageous in order to connect a setting element and a supporting member in a relatively practical and reliable manner.
In this case, it is advantageous if each setting element is provided with a setting member, wherein the setting member is configured to be removable from the receiving space, in a first position, and to be engaged with a wall surrounding the receiving space, in a second position, in order to hold the setting element on the supporting member. It is advantageous for the setting member to be removable from the receiving space in order to detach the setting element from the supporting member, in which case it is not necessary to fit and remove the setting element from one end of the supporting member in the receiving space. This is particularly advantageous for adding or removing setting elements to/from the device during installation.
In an embodiment of the device, each setting element is provided with a forcing member for forcing the setting member into engagement in the second position thereof. This is advantageous in order to achieve a durable and reliable engagement of the setting member and the supporting member.
In a practical embodiment of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention, the screen brackets are slidably fittable to the setting elements and the device is provided with securing members for securing the screen brackets to the setting elements. This is advantageous in order to change or fit screen brackets in a relatively practical manner during installation. Changing a screen bracket is a practical solution in case of a defective screen bracket. Fitting screen brackets in this way is practical in order to be able to use screen brackets of different sizes during installation, for example for coupling with different kinds of picture screens.
It is advantageous if the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets are provided with coupling openings, wherein the coupling members are at least partly provided in the coupling openings in order to couple the picture screens and the device via the coupling members. This is advantageous in order to constructively produce a space to move in a relatively simple way when coupling a coupling member to first end brackets, second end brackets and screen brackets. In an embodiment, the space to move in order to allow the mutual attaching and mutual aligning of the picture screens to be connected to the device is achieved by the fact that the dimensions of the coupling openings are larger than the dimensions of the coupling members at the location of the coupling of the coupling members to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets. Preferably, the space to move for allowing the mutual attaching and mutual aligning of the picture screens to be connected to the device is in the range of 0.5 to 4 mm, more preferably in the range of 1 to 3 mm.
In a practical embodiment of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention, a coupling member of the coupling members is provided with a screw thread for attaching the coupling member of the coupling members to rear sides of the picture screens. This is advantageous for setting a range for the alignment of the picture screens in a direction which is directed substantially at right angles to the picture screen surface of the video wall in order to achieve a substantially flat picture screen surface of the video wall in order to achieve a relatively good picture quality. To this end, the threaded coupling members are preferably screwed into the picture screens up to a certain distance.
According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a video wall comprising mutually attached picture screens and a device according to the present invention, wherein the mutually attached picture screens are connected to the first end brackets, second end brackets and/or the picture screen brackets. The advantages of such a video wall are analogous to the advantages of the device according to the present invention. According to a third aspect, the present invention relates to a device for attaching mutually attachable and alignable picture screens thereto in order to create a video wall, the device comprising:
first end brackets and second end brackets which are configured to hold a top and a bottom picture screen of the video wall, respectively,
screen brackets which are provided between the first end brackets and the second end brackets, wherein each screen bracket is configured to hold neighbouring picture screens of the video wall,
coupling members which are configured to be fastened to rear sides of the picture screens and to be coupled to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets in order to achieve a coupled position, wherein the coupling members, the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets are configured to allow, in the coupled position, a movement of each coupling member with respect to the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets for mutually attaching and thus mutually aligning the picture screens to be connected to the device. The advantages of the device according to the third aspect are analogous to the advantages of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention.
In this case, it is advantageous if the device is provided with:
- a pair of attaching members for fastening the device to a support;
a pair of supporting members, wherein each supporting member comprises attaching brackets for detachably attaching the supporting member to the pair of attaching members, wherein first end brackets and second end brackets are provided on each supporting member,
wherein the first end brackets, the second end brackets and the screen brackets are provided on the pair of supporting members.
Further advantages and embodiments of the device according to the third aspect of the present invention are identical to embodiments and advantages of the device according to the first aspect of the present invention.
The invention will be explained in more detail by means of the description of a possible embodiment of a device according to the invention with reference to the following figures, in which: Fig. 1 : shows a perspective view of a possible embodiment of a device according to the invention with a number of associated flat picture screens;
Figs. 2 - 7: show a perspective view of elements of the embodiment according to Fig. 1 ;
- Fig. 8: shows a perspective view of a rear side of a picture screen provided with a part of the device in the embodiment according to Fig. 1 ;
Fig. 9: shows a perspective view of a detail from Fig. 8;
Figs. 10 - 14: show a perspective view of elements of the embodiment according to Fig. 1 .
Device 1 is provided with a first elongate profiled section 5 and a second elongate profiled section 7. The first and second elongate profiled sections, together also referred to as horizontal profiled sections, are configured as attaching members for attaching the device 1 to a wall which is not shown in more detail. In this case, at least one of the horizontal profiled sections is relatively accurately aligned horizontally, in horizontal direction H, in order to provide a horizontal reference for the horizontal alignment of picture screens 3 to be attached using the device 1 . The horizontal profiled sections 5 and 7 are obtained by extruding aluminium. In an embodiment, it is conceivable for the horizontal profiled sections to be produced by, for example, rolling sheet material and/or folding sheet material and/or to be made from a metal other than aluminium, such as steel or magnesium. In order to fasten the horizontal profiled sections to the wall, clamping brackets 2 are provided on the side of the horizontal profiled sections 5 and 7 to be turned towards the wall. The clamping brackets 2 provide a force-fitting connection with the horizontal profiled sections 5 and 7 and can be fitted to a horizontal profiled section from one end of the horizontal profiled section and can be pushed to a desired position along the horizontal profiled section. The clamping brackets 2 are provided with holes (not shown in more detail) in order to attach the device 1 to the wall by means of bolts.
Vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 in the form of supporting members are attachable to the horizontal profiled sections 5 and 7 in order to produce a framework. The vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 have also been produced by extruding aluminium and are configured as elongate profiled sections which, in use, extend in a vertical direction V. In an embodiment, it is conceivable for the vertical profiled sections to be produced by, for example, rolling sheet material and/or folding sheet material and/or be made of a metal other than aluminium, such as steel or magnesium. In an embodiment, it is conceivable for at least four vertical profiled sections to be attachable and attached to the framework in the form of supporting members. In order to fasten the vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 to the horizontal profiled sections 5 and 7, attaching brackets 13 and 15 are provided on the vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 . A first attaching bracket 13 of the attaching brackets is provided at a top end of the vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 via a pivot bracket 23. The first attaching bracket 13 is coupled to the pivot bracket 23 by means of a screw bolt 4, with the first attaching bracket 13 being pivotable about a central axis of the screw bolt 4 when the screw bolt 4 is in a first position, wherein, in the first position of the screw bolt 4, the first attaching bracket 13 and the pivot bracket 23 are free fixing with respect to each other by the screw bolt 4. The pivot bracket 23 is provided with adjustment members configured as slotted holes 25 in order to be able to displace the pivot bracket 23 with respect to the first pivot bracket 13. The first pivot bracket 13 is furthermore provided with a latching member 6 in order to latch the first pivot bracket 13 onto the first horizontal profiled section after the first pivot bracket 13 has been hooked onto the first horizontal profiled section 5. To this end, the latching member 6 is formed in such a way that a form-fitted connection of the first pivot bracket 13 and the first horizontal profiled section 5 can be achieved. After latching the first pivot bracket 13 onto the first horizontal profiled section 5, the vertical profiled section is movable in a direction at right angles to the first horizontal profiled section 5 by moving the screw bolt 4 in the slotted hole 25 when the screw bolt 4 is in the first position, in which the first attaching bracket 13 and the pivot bracket 23 are free fixing with respect to each other by the screw bolt 4. By means of the movement of the vertical profiled section with respect to the first horizontal profiled section 5, a second attaching bracket 15 of the attaching brackets is connectable to the second elongate profiled section 7. By moving the screw bolt 4 into a second position, due to tightening of the screw bolt 4, the first attaching bracket 13 and the pivot bracket 23 are fixable with respect to each other and thus the position of the second attaching bracket 15 with respect to the second elongate profiled section 7 is also fixable.
At a bottom end of the vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 , the device 1 is provided with a bottom blocking member 45. At a bottom head end of the vertical profiled section, the bottom blocking member 45 closes off a receiving space 33 and further receiving space 8 provided in the vertical profiled section. A second end bracket 19 is provided in the further receiving space 8. The second end bracket 19 is fixed to the vertical profiled section by means of a bolt/hole connection 27 with the bottom blocking member 45 bearing against the second end bracket 19. The second end bracket 19 is provided with elongate openings 41 which is opened at a top side thereof by folding the second end bracket 19.
At a top end of the vertical profiled sections 9, 10 and 1 1 , the device
1 is provided with a top blocking member 47. At a top head end of the vertical profiled section, the top blocking member 47 closes off a receiving space 33 and further receiving space 8 provided in the vertical profiled section. A first end bracket 17 is provided in the further receiving space 8. The first end bracket 17 is connected to the top blocking member 47 by means of a bolt connection 10 in order to provide a lifting safeguard for the screens 3. The first end bracket 17 is provided with elongate openings 39 which is opened at a bottom side thereof by folding the second end bracket 17.
Setting elements 29 are provided in the further receiving space 8 between the first end bracket 17 and the second end bracket 19. A first part of the setting elements 29 is accommodated in the further receiving space 8 and a setting member 49 of the setting elements is accommodated in a receiving space 33. The receiving space 33 and the further receiving space 8 are open towards an outer side of the vertical profiled section, in which case an inner space of the receiving space 33 and the further receiving space 8 extending in the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section extends along the wall at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section over a greater distance than an opening by means of which the receiving space 33 and the further receiving space 8 opens outwardly in order to ensure the first part of the setting element 29 engages with a wall surrounding the further receiving space 8 and the setting member 49 engages with a wall surrounding the receiving space 33. The setting member 49 is removable from the receiving space 33 because the setting member 49 is provided with an elongate engagement head (not shown in more detail) which, in a first position, in which a long side of the elongate engagement head is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section is removable from the receiving space 33. In a second position of the elongate engagement head, the long side of the elongate engagement head is substantially at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section in order to hook the engagement head into the receiving space 33. On a side of the setting element 29 facing away from the vertical profiled section, a forcing member is provided which is configured as a spring 31 . On one side, the spring 31 rests on a nut 12 connected to the setting member 49 in order to force the engagement head into engagement with the wall surrounding the receiving space 33. By applying a force on the setting member 49 to overcome a spring force exerted by the spring 31 , the engagement head can be freed from engagement with the wall of the receiving space 33 in order to be able to displace the setting element 29 in the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section. Due to the spring action of the spring 31 , a setting element 29 can be positioned and held in a desired vertical position of the device 1 .
A screen bracket 21 can be displaced over the setting elements 29. In this case, the screen bracket 21 can displaced as far as into the further receiving space 8, so that a bottom part and a top part of the screen bracket 21 , which are each provided with a securing opening 14, viewed in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the vertical profiled section, extend between the setting element 29 and the vertical profiled section. By fitting a securing member which is configured as a pin 35, the screen bracket 21 can be secured to the setting element 29. The screen brackets 21 are provided with coupling openings 43 which are open at a top side thereof by folding the screen brackets 21 . The elongate openings 39 and 41 and the coupling openings 43 are provided substantially in vertical direction V one above the other in order to be able to provide neighbouring picture screens 3 substantially directly above one another.
The device 1 shown in Figs. 1 - 14 is configured to be coupled to picture screens 3 which, on a rear side thereof, near the corners, are provided with threaded holes (not shown in more detail). The device 1 is provided with coupling members 37 to allow coupling with the picture screens 3. The coupling members 37 are configured as rotationally symmetrical hooks, the hooks being formed by a round flange 16 provided at a first end of the coupling members 37. At a second end of the coupling members 37, the coupling members 37 are provided with a screw thread (not shown in more detail) in order to screw the coupling members 37 into the threaded holes of the picture screen 3. The distance of the round flange 16 to the picture screen 3 is adjustable by screwing the screw thread of the coupling members 37 further or less far into the picture screen 3.
In order to couple the picture screens 3 to the device 1 , four coupling members 37 are screwed into the threaded holes of the picture screens 3. Subsequently, two bottom coupling members 37 which are connected to a bottom picture screen 3 are arranged in elongate openings 41 of second end brackets 19, with the flanges 16 of the coupling members 37 ends up on a side of the end bracket 21 facing away from the picture screen 3 in order to hook the coupling member 37 into the elongate opening 41 . In this case, the two bottom coupling members 37 rest on the second end brackets 19. Due to the fact that, in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the elongate opening 41 , the opening has a larger dimension than the coupling members 37, a tolerance is created between the coupling member 37 and the second end bracket 19 in order to provide space to move for the coupling member 37 with respect to the second end bracket 19 in order to enable mutual coupling and thus alignment in a horizontal direction H with neighbouring picture screens 3. A vertical alignment with neighbouring picture screens is permitted by movement of the coupling member 37 in a vertical direction V in the elongate coupling openings 41 . In order to align neighbouring screens in a direction D substantially at right angles to the picture screen surface formed by the picture screens 3, a distance of the flange 16 up to the picture screen 3 is greater than a thickness of the second end brackets 19.
Two top coupling members 37 which are connected to a picture screen 3 are then hooked into the coupling openings 43 of the screen brackets 21. To this end, the screen brackets 21 are brought to a desired vertical position by operating the setting member 49 and while hooking in the two top coupling members 37. In this case, the screen brackets 21 are positioned at such a height that the top coupling members 37 rest on the screen brackets 21 at a bottom end of the coupling openings 43. Due to the fact that the opening has a larger dimension in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the coupling openings 43 than the coupling members 37, a tolerance is created between the coupling member 37 and the screen bracket 21 in order to provide space to move for the coupling member 37 with respect to the screen bracket 21 in order to enable mutual coupling and thus alignment in a horizontal direction H with neighbouring picture screens 3. A vertical alignment with neighbouring picture screens is permitted by movement of the coupling member 37 in a vertical direction V in the coupling opening 43. In order to align neighbouring screens in a direction D substantially at right angles to the picture screen surface formed by the picture screens 3, a distance of the flange 16 up to the picture screen 3 is greater than a thickness of the screen bracket 21 . A picture screen which is to be provided above the bottom picture screen 3 and is also provided with coupling members 37 is then brought into the coupling openings 43 and in this case rests on the bottom picture screen 3. On a top side, two top coupling members 37 of the picture screen provided above the bottom picture screen 3 rest against a bottom end of coupling openings 43 of a further screen bracket 21 . A top picture screen 3 is hooked into a screen bracket 21 analogous to a picture screen provided between the bottom picture screen and top picture screen. Two top coupling members 37 which are connected to the top picture screen 3 are hooked into the coupling openings 39 of the first end brackets 17. Due to the fact that the opening has a larger dimension in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the coupling openings 39 than the coupling members 37, a tolerance is created between the coupling member 37 and the first end bracket 17 in order to provide space to move for the coupling member 37 with respect to the first end bracket 17 in order to enable mutual coupling and thus alignment in a horizontal direction H with neighbouring picture screens 3. A vertical alignment with neighbouring picture screens is permitted by movement of the coupling member 37 in a vertical direction V in the coupling opening 39. In order to align neighbouring screens in a direction D substantially at right angles to the picture screen surface formed by the picture screens 3, a distance of the flange 16 up to the picture screen 3 is greater than a thickness of the first end brackets 17.
