Description
A METHOD FOR RATING/SCORING INDIVIDUALS ON A SOCIAL
NETWORKING PLATFORM
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The invention establishes or creates a method to score/ rate an individual's character or personality using basic personality traits resulting an overall character score of an individual within the range of 1 - 10 with 10 being the highest or best score an individual can obtain. Individuals can use an online or web based social media platform (computer or mobile) for rating/scoring other individuals on a social networking environment, more particularly, rating/scoring them based on numerous character traits on a social networking platform/interface, thereby generating a quantified or weighted average character score of said individual(s) ranging from 1 - 10. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] Character traits are the aspects of a person's behavior that make up the personality. Everyone has character traits, both good and bad that define a person's personality. Even characters in books have character traits. The character traits are often shown with descriptive adjectives, like honest, loving, trustworthy, respectful, courageous, polite, etc. Some examples of good character traits include: honesty, loyalty, love, kindness and generosity.
[003] Individuals, groups, organizations, communities, and cultures have always sought to understand and evaluate human character traits as a basis for human social interactions. The internet provides an electronic medium of communication to which this fundamental human activity can be transferred to global audiences. However, there is no established system or method that is consistent and semantic viable on social networking platforms on the world wide web by which individuals can rate each other and on normative character traits.
[004] The existing solutions in today's market are fragmented and do not offer a comprehensive picture of the character traits of individuals. There exists no single system for measuring or quantifying an individual(s) character or overall personality score. [005] Therefore, the said need is fulfilled by the method of present invention in the form of a scoring model where individuals who actually know each other like friends, school friends, colleagues, family, relationships, family friends, acquaintances, or through any other meeting or interaction are able to score or provide a rating from 1- 10 on numerous character traits like forgiveness, fairness, honorability, honesty, loyalty, caring, calmness, loving, trustworthiness, respectfulness, courageous, polite, generous etc. on a user platform/interface, thereby generating a quantified overall character score of an individual(s).
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [006] The present invention is directed to a computer implemented method where individuals can rate each other based on numerous character traits like honesty, loyalty, caring, calmness, loving, trustworthiness etc. on an online social networking platform/interface, and generating a quantified overall character score of said individual(s) on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the highest/best possible score).
[007] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method comprises the steps of: creating profile of an individual on a user platform/interface; listing associated members (friends, co workers, aquaintances, family members etc.) of said individuals(s) on said user platform/interface; sending an invitation to said member(s) for joining and creating their profile; rating said member(s) by said individual(s) based on character traits; calculating individual character traits score and ultimately the overall character score of said member(s) using weighted score of the each of the character traits displayed.
[008] In another embodiment of the present invention, the character score obtained using the method is beneficial for match making, employment, meeting people at social events/gatherings, and overall general awareness of an individual's character or personality by enabling individuals to be aware of the overall character score of an individual based on the
ratings on numerous traits given by people knowing the individual personally, professionally, or through family ties etc.
[009] In another embodiment of the present inevntion, the criteria of weighting the character score is based on length of relationship or knowing someone for a longer period of time and the type of relationship. The maximum percentage of 40% is given to the relationship of more than 10 years, 25% for more than 5 years but less than 10 years, 20% for more than 2 years but less than 5 years and 15% for less than 2 years. Further, immediate family members like siblings, parents is provided more weightage (40%) as compared to extended family relations, colleuagues, co workers, and acquaintances.
[010] In another embodiment of the present invention, the profile on the social networking platform/interface includes photograph, work information, educational information and address, and other administrator set paramters of the individuals and also the associated members. These parameters are not restricting and may vary as per the target and applicable users.
[011] In another embodiment of the present invention, the score of 1 is considered to be lowest score, whereas score of 10 is considered to be the highest score on a scale of 1-10.
[012] These and other features and advantages of the present invention may be incorporated into certain embodiments of the invention and will become more fully apparent from the following description, or may be learned by the practice of the invention as set forth hereinafter. The present invention does not require that all the advantageous features and all the advantages described herein be incorporated into every embodiment of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[013] The following description describes various features and functions of the disclosed method with reference to the accompanying figures. The illustrative method described herein is not meant to be limiting. It can be readily understood that certain aspects of the disclosed method can be arranged and combined in a wide variety of different configurations, all of which are contemplated herein.
[014] The embodiment is chosen and described to provide the best illustration of the principles of the invention and its practical application, and to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to utilize the invention in various embodiments and with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
[015] Figure 1 represents the character traits of an individual corresponding to which score is provided from the people known to said individual. Average score is then calculated by combining score of the each of said character traits divided by the number of said traits. [016] Figure 2 represents process flow chart commencing from creating profile of an individual on social media platform till generation of character score.
[017] The present invention is directed to a method for rating/scoring individuals based on numerous character traits like honesty, honorability, respect, fairness, forgiveness, generosity, courageousness, politeness, loyalty, caring, calmness, loving, trustworthiness etc. on a social networking platform/interface, thereby generating a quantified character score of said individual(s) on a scale of 1-10 as shown in Figure 1.
[018] The computer implemented method, comprises the steps (as shown in Figure 2) of;
• creating profile of an individual on a social networking platform/interface;
• listing associated members of said individuals(s) on said user platfrom/interface;
• sending an invitation to said member(s) for joining and creating profile;
• rating said member(s) by said individual(s) based on the listed character traits; and · calculating character score of said member(s) using weighted score of each of the character traits displayed.
[019] In the present invention, users are able to view each others profile and the character score of each of the individuals on the platfrom.
[020] In the present method, an individual is not able to provide a poor rating to another without any explanation of why he/she feels so and also at least 5 individuals in the same tree/circle or the same level of knowing. For example - If a close friend (for more than
10 years, and whose score has more weight to the overall character score) changes a rating significantly, let's assume from 9 to 4 out of 10; then similar level of knowing/individuals whose rating has similar weight must give their consent for a poor rating. Based on the relationship between two individuals, tree or circles are formed. Only after 5 or more have vetted the change in score on a particular character trait; only then the rating change is accepted and adjusted to the overall character score of an individual. This will enable misuse and will enable proper and justified representation of an individual(s) overall character score.
[021] As shown in Figure 1 , an individual (' A') can rate others ('Β') in their tree/chain of knowing. Firstly, A having a profile on the user platfrom invites B to join and provides the information of relationship with B (i.e. School friend, known for 20 years); secondly B joins and creates his/her profile and automatically gets listed as a friend of A ; thirdly B then provides rating to A on scale of 1-10, based on the character traits listed on the user platform. For example, if B feels A is very trustworthy, then B shall provide a high score of 9 or 10 to A . Similarly, if B feels that A is trustworthy, but not caring then A shall give B a low rating for the particular character trait, maybe a score of 4 or 5.
[022] The average score is calculated by combining score of the each of the character traits divided by the number of traits as depicted in Table 1. Afterwards the weighted average character score is calculated which is an average where each value has a specific weight or frequency assigned to it, to calculate the overall score. The criteria of weighting the character score is based on length of relationship or knowing someone for a longer period of time and the type of relationship between the individulas on the user platform. The maximum percentage of 40% is given to the relationship of more than 10 years, 25% for more than 5 years but less than 10 years, 20% for more than 2 years but less than 5 years and 15% for less than 2years. Further, immediate family members like siblings, parents is provided more weightage as comapred to extended family relations and acquaintances as depicted in Table 2 and Table 3.
[023] Table 1 shows the calculation of average character score:
Character/Personality Trait Score Given
Honest 9.0
Honorable 8.0
Respectful 9.0
Fair 7.0
Forgiving 6.0
Generous 8.0
Courageous 9.0
Polite 6.0
Loving 8.0
Trustworthy 10.0
Overall Character Score 8.0
Hence, 8.0 would be the average of all scores given for each character trait.
[024] Table 2 shows the criteria and weightage assigned to the same during character score calculation.
In this case, weighted average character score is calculated, which is an average where each value has a specific weightage or frequency assigned to it, to calculate your overall score.
For example - More weightage will be given to someone who knows you for a longer period of time.
Criteria for Weightage:
1) Length of Relationship/Knowing someone: More weightage will be given to scores of individuals who have known the individual they are rating/scoring longer.
• More than 10 years - 40%
• 5 - 10 Years - 25%
• 2 - 5 Years - 20%
• Less than 2 years - 15%
2) Type of Relationship:
• Immediate family members like siblings, parents will be given more weightage.
• Immediate Family - 1st Level of knowing (Direct Relationship).
• Extended Family, Close Friends, Girlfriend, Boyfriend - 1st level of knowing (Direct Relationship).
• Friends of Friends, Co - Workers, Family Friends etc. - 2nd Level of knowing (Non Direct).
Example 1: Simple average character score
Hence, 7.9 would be the overall "Simple Average" character score after individulas (A, B, C and D) have rated.
Example 2: Weighted Average character score
"Criteria (1) "Criteria (2)
Individuals Giving
Length of Type of Weight
Scores
Relationship" Relationship"
Person A More than 10 years Sibling 40%
Person B 5-10 years Girlfriend 25%
Person C 2-5 years Co-worker 20%
Person D Less than 2 years Family friend 15%
[025] Table 3 shows the calculation of weighted average score of an individual.
Therefore, 7.7 would be the overall "Weighted Average" character score after individulas (A, B, C and D) have rated.
In this case the Overall "Weighted Average" Character score drops to 7.7 because Person A's weight of 40% towards the overall score.
[026] These and other features and advantages of the present invention may be incorporated into certain embodiments of the invention and will become more fully apparent from the description or may be learned by the practice of the invention as set forth hereinafter. The present invention does not require that all the advantageous features and all the advantages described herein be incorporated into every embodiment of the invention.
[027] Although the embodiments herein are described with various specific embodiments, it will be obvious for a person skilled in the art to practice the invention with modifications. However, all such modifications are deemed to be within the scope of the invention.
