Abstract

Vehicle exterior parts assembly comprises a hood (1), a bumper bracket (2), and a bumper (3). The bumper (3) is fixedly mounted onto the bumper bracket (2), and the bumper bracket (2) is provided with a first flexible positioning structure by which an assembled position of the hood (1) relative to the bumper bracket (2) is delimited such that the bumper (3) is matched with the hood (1) once assembled. A flexible positioning and connecting structure can determine the matching position of the hood (1) by the first flexible positioning structure and determine the matching position of the bumper (3) by a second flexible positioning structure. Thus, the presence of defects in the matching area between the bumper (3) and the hood (1) can be avoided, the disparity between an actual value and a theoretical value of the gap and the difference in surface alignment between the two can be reduced, and the theoretical state of design can be approached, thereby improving the consistency in appearance.

Description

[Title established by the ISA under Rule 37.2] FLEXIBLE POSITIONING AND CONNECTING STRUCTURE Field of the Invention
The invention relates to an automobile front bumper assembly, and more particularly, a flexible positioning and connecting structure.
Background of the Invention
An automobile front bumper assembly comprises a hood, a bumper bracket, and a bumper, in which the bumper is fixedly mounted onto the bumper bracket via positioning structures and connecting structures at both ends, and the top of the bumper needs to be matched with the hood.
In the prior art, generally, an installer needs to push a bumper from various directions manually for fixedly mounting it. After actual connection via connecting structures has been done, defects (e.g., relatively large gaps and differences in surface alignment) usually appear in the matching area between the bumper and the hood, thus resulting in relatively poor consistency in appearance.
Summary of the Invention
The invention aims to provide a flexible positioning and connecting structure to solve the above problem of relatively poor consistency in appearance of automobile front bumper assembly in the prior art.
According to the invention, a vehicle exterior parts assembly is provided, comprising a hood, a bumper bracket, and a bumper, characterized in that the bumper is fixedly mounted onto the bumper bracket, and the bumper bracket is provided with a first flexible  positioning structure by which an assembled position of the hood relative to the bumper bracket is delimited such that the bumper is matched with the hood once assembled.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first flexible positioning structure is a pivot structure and can be housed inside the bumper bracket.
The vehicle exterior parts assembly according to the invention may also comprise alone or in combination the following characteristics:
The first flexible positioning structure is pivoted around an axis between a retracted position, in which position the first flexible positioning structure is retracted on, preferably housed inside, the bumper bracket, and an extended position, in which position the first flexible positioning structure delimits the assembled position of the hood relative to the bumper bracket.
The first flexible positioning structure comprises a support plate and a hinge, the support plate being pivoted around the hinge between a retracted position and an extended position.
The bumper bracket further comprises a first through opening, and in the retracted position, the support plate is housed inside the first through opening and connected to a side wall of the first through opening via the hinge.
A free end of the support plate is provided with a flange for abutting against the hood in the extended position.
In the extended position, the support plate abuts against a front edge of the hood.
The bumper is provided with a second flexible positioning structure by which an assembled position of the bumper relative to the bumper bracket is delimited.
The second flexible positioning structure comprises a snap arranged on the bumper and the bumper bracket further comprises a second through opening, the snap being inserted into the second through opening while positioning the bumper relative to the bumper bracket.
The second flexible positioning structure further comprises an elastic member, for example a spring, arranged on the bumper and the snap is connected to the bumper via the elastic member.
A grille is fixedly mounted on a backside of the bumper and the snap or the snap and the elastic member is/are arranged on the grille.
The flexible positioning and connecting structure of the invention can determine the matching position of the hood by the first flexible positioning structure and determine the matching position of the bumper by the second flexible positioning structure. Thus, the presence of defects in the matching area between the bumper and the hood can be avoided, the disparity between an actual value and a theoretical value of the gap and the difference in surface alignment between the two can be reduced, and the theoretical state of design can be approached, thereby improving the consistency in appearance.
Description of the Drawings
Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a vehicle exterior parts assembly according to a preferred embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 2 is a partial, perspective view of the vehicle exterior parts  assembly of Figure 1.
Detailed Description of the Invention
A preferred embodiment of the invention is provided and described in detail below in relation with the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 presents a schematic diagram of a vehicle exterior parts assembly according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the vehicle exterior parts assembly comprising a hood 1, a bumper bracket 2, and a bumper 3, wherein the bumper 3 is fixedly mounted onto the bumper bracket 2 via positioning and connecting structures at both ends, and a top of the bumper 3 is matched with the hood 1.
Figure 2 is a partial, perspective view of the vehicle exterior parts assembly of Figure 1, in which the bumper bracket 2 has a front wall 21a facing the bumper 3 and a top wall 21b facing the hood 1.
The bumper bracket 2 has a first through opening 22, which is formed by a partial cutting of the front wall 21a and of the top wall 21b. A support plate 23, in an initial (retracted) position, is housed inside the first through opening 22 and connected to a side wall of the first through opening 22 via a hinge 24. In the present embodiment, the support plate 23 is provided with a flange 23a in the proximity of its free end. In the course of actual operation, an installer can exercise an external force on the support plate 23 so as to pivot it around the hinge 24, up to an intermediate position shown by the dotted line 23’, until a supporting (extended) position shown by the dotted line 23”. In the state of the supporting position, the flange 23a of the support plate 23 abuts against a front edge 11 of the hood 1, delimiting the position of the hood 1 relative to the bumper bracket 2. It can be understood that once the relative placement position of the hood 1 has been determined, the installer can  exercise an external force on the support plate 23 so as to pivot it down, around the hinge 24, passing through the intermediate position shown by the dotted line 23’, and back to the initial position.
Advantageously, the bumper bracket 2 further comprises a second through opening 25, which is formed by a partial cutting of the top wall 21b. In reference to Figure 1, a grille 31 is mounted on a backside of the bumper 3. The grille 31 is connected to a snap 33 via a spring 32. The snap 33 can be inserted into the second through opening 25 for positioning the bumper 3 relative to the bumper bracket 2.
A specific application of the vehicle exterior parts assembly of the invention is described in detail below in relation with Figures 1 and 2:
As mentioned above, in the initial state, the support plate 23 is molded to be housed in the first through opening 22 of the bumper bracket 2. First, an installer exercises an external force on the support plate 23 so as to pivot it, around the hinge 24, up to the supporting (extended) position shown by the dotted line 23”. At this state, the relative position of the hood 1 is delimited by the abutting of the flange 23a against the front edge 11 of the hood 1. Then, the installer exercises an external force on the support plate 23 so as to pivot it down, around the hinge 24, to return to the initial (retracted) state of being housed in the first through opening 22 of the bumper bracket 2.
At this state, since the position of the hood 1 has been determined, the installer only needs to elevate the bumper 3 to an appropriate height and then push the bumper 3 backwards toward the bumper bracket 2, eliminating the step of adjusting the bumper 3 in the vertical direction.
While pushing the bumper 3 backwards toward the bumper bracket 2, the position of the snap 33 of the bumper 3 is slightly adjusted by an  elastic member, for example a spring 32, and enters into the second through opening 25. Then, when a front end of the snap 33 comes into contact with a side wall of the second through opening 25, the action of pushing backwards the bumper 3 is terminated. At this state, the installer only needs to connect the bumper 3 to the bumper bracket 2 through a connecting structure, eliminating the steps of adjusting the bumper 3 in the front-back direction and in the left-right direction.
It can be understood that the support plate 23 and the hinge 24 can be called the first flexible positioning structure. Through this first flexible positioning structure, the position of the hood 1 can be determined (i.e., the matching position of the hood 1 can be determined) . In addition, the spring 32 and the snap 33 can be called the second flexible positioning structure. Through this second flexible positioning structure, the position of the bumper 3 in the front-back and/or left-right directions can be determined (i.e., the matching position of the bumper 3 can be determined) . Thus, the presence of defects in the matching area between the bumper 3 and the hood 1 can be avoided, the disparity between an actual value and a theoretical value of the gap and the difference in surface alignment between the two can be reduced, and the theoretical state of design can be approached.
What has been described above is merely a preferred embodiment of the invention, and is not to limit the scope of the invention. The embodiment of the invention described above can be subject to various modifications. All simple, equivalent modifications and embellishments made based on the contents of the claims and the specification of the invention fall within the scope of protection of the claims of the invention. What has not been described in detail in the invention is conventional technology.
