Description

GAS FLOW LIMITATION RING TO A CONTAINER OF
FLUCTUATING DIAMETER
Technical Field
The present invention constitutes an amendment of the Greek Patent No. 1008914 which relates to a gas flow limiter to be used in a pressurized- gas container, which comprises a single plastic ring with no additional components, which when placed inside the container it limits the gas flow if, for some reason, said gas container, supplying with gas an appliance, is dismounted from the appliance.
The basic characteristic of the present ring is that, due to its constructive characteristics, its diameter is able to fluctuate and to be effectively adjusted to containers of different capacity and consequently of different diameters.
Technical background
The known technology for manufacturing analogous items has not presented any similar item combining the above characteristics.
In particular, the existing gas flow limiters comprise more components made of more than one material, such as metal, plastic etc., and with the use of additional components, for example sealing rings, they attempt to stop the gas flow.
The basic disadvantage of the above- mentioned flow limiters is that, due tq the numerous components and materials they comprise, their construction is complicated and it is difficult to be placed inside the containers during the manufacture process, a fact which dramatically increases the production time and cost and, in practice, makes their use in gas containers forbidden, the retail price of which is low.
In addition, all existing gas flow limiters cover a specific container size and, consequently, each type of flow limiter is produced in various sizes in order to cover the respective container sizes. This results in the need for installation, operation and use of more molds and production machines, in order for more gas container sizes to be covered, which also significantly increases the production cost and the unit price, while creating the need for the construction of bigger facilities for their production.
All the above disadvantages prompted me to find a solution, the result of which was initially the object of the EP No. 1008914 which relates to a gas flow limitation ring consisting of only one piece and made of only one material (plastic or other suitable), in the center of which there is a shaping in order for the gas flow from the container to be stopped, if required, a fact which makes its construction rather cost effective and easy- to- be installed, during the production process, inside the container.
The present invention has achieved the objective of producing a cost- effective, easy-to-install and highly efficient flow limiter. However, the disadvantage of the need to produce several sizes of this type of flow limiter, in order to be able to be placed in containers of various sizes, has not been eliminated. Despite the above, the disadvantage for the need of production of many sizes of the particular type of flow limiter in order to be able to be placed into containers of various sizes.
With the present invention, which constitutes an amendment of the above Patent, the advantages of the above described gas limitation ring are combined with its ability to be effectively adjusted to containers of different sizes. Given the proper configuration of its perimeter, in combination with the shaping of its radii, its diameter fluctuates by adjusting it to all sizes and thus to the perimeters of the gas containers available on the market.
Disclosure of the invention
The present invention will be fully understood by those skilled in the present art with reference to the accompanying drawings and figures which depict an example of a specific industrial application of the invention. In particular
Figure 1 shows in perspective, the invented ring with three radii.
Figure 2 shows in perspective, the invented ring with four radii.
Figure 3 shows a cross-section view of a container of small diameter on which the invented ring is adjusted. Figure 4 shows the invented ring adjusted to a gas container of bigger diameter.
Figure 5 shows in perspective the invented ring, the perimeter of which is retracted.
Taking into account an example of an application of the invention, a list of its main parts is given, with reference to the respective numbering of the same parts on the attached drawings/figures. These parts are not in scale but are shown simply in size proportions. According to the selected indicative application of the invention, the invented gas flow limitation ring (1) is made of plastic or other suitable flexible material and its perimeter has a shaping where parts (3), which are reinforced and solid, alternate with parts (4) which are thinner and more flexible. From the solid parts (3) of the ring (1) begin two or more flexible radii (5) which end to the center (6) of the ring which has a circular base (7) with peripheral wall (8). The ring (1) is adjusted to the perimeter of the upper inner part of the gas container either by constructing recesses (9) at its periphery or by constructing a peripheral cord.
In this way the circular base (7) located at the center (6) of the ring (1) is located exactly under the preselected point of penetration of the container.
If the container is of small capacity and hence of small diameter, the flexible parts (4) of the perimeter of the ring (1) under the pressure of the reinforced and solid parts (3) are bent, resulting in the adjustment of the size of the perimeter of the ring (1) to the perimeter of the inner part of the container while the flexible radii (5) are bent respectively. The bigger the capacity and hence the perimeter of the container is, the less the flexible parts (4) of the perimeter of the ring (1) are bent and consequently the radii (5) which are suitably and effectively adjusted to the perimeter of the inner part of the container.
Based on the above described adjustment of the ring (1), to the inner part of the gas container, when the piercing part of the inlet port (10) of the appliance that the user wishes to connect with the gas container, penetrates the container, thus creating a hole (2) on the container, then it pushes the circular base (7) of the ring which moves away from the penetration point of the container while at the same time the radii (5) are downwardly bent under the pressure exerted by the inlet port (10) of the appliance that the user wishes to supply with gas, allowing the gas to flow from the container to the connected appliance.
If, for any reason, the appliance is disconnected from the container, while the container still contains a quantity of gas, then no pressure is exerted on the circular base (7) and the radii (5) do no longer bent and return to its original position, while the circular base (7) fits around the hole (2), stopping the gas flow from the container.
It must be understood that the object of the invention is not limited to the above example. The materialization of the invention can also be achieved with other manufacturing methods/ technics and components within the scope of the present invention.
