Description

PROTECTIVE SCREEN FOR STOVES
The present invention relates to a protective screen for stoves.
Nowadays screens are known which can be positioned in front of the scorching hot glass of stoves in order to render it inaccessible and therefore prevent users from accidentally being subjected to burns.
Among these are screens that can be used both for stoves and for fireplaces, made of painted steel and often also provided with magnets that can resist the temperatures reached by the surfaces of stoves and fireplaces, and which keep them coupled stably thereto.
These protections have some non-negligible drawbacks in their use.
First of all is the fact that a screen made of metallic material is by its nature a conductor of heat and, therefore, although they are capable of offering protection from the high temperatures to which the surfaces of stoves are subjected, they still reach temperatures that are hazardous for the user who comes into contact with it.
Another drawback lies in the fact that these screens are adapted for maximum temperatures of 50°C (measured at about 10 cm from the heat emission surface) and therefore they are not very effective for wood-fired stoves, where the heat is greater.
A further drawback lies in the fact that such screens have a considerable overall weight, owing to the very material of which they are made and to the fact that in order to maintain their rigidity and level of protection their structure cannot be lightened, and in fact they have only a few slits on the surface for aesthetic purposes and which barely make it possible to see the fire inside the stove.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a protective screen for stoves which is capable of improving the known art in one or more of the above mentioned aspects.
Within this aim, an object of the invention is to provide a protective screen that can also be used with wood-fired stoves. Another object of the invention is to provide a screen with a pleasing visual impact and the structure of which favors the diffusion of heat outside.
Furthermore, another object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the known art in an alternative manner to any existing solutions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a screen that is highly reliable, easy to implement and low cost.
This aim and these and other objects which will become better apparent hereinafter are achieved by a screen according to claim 1 , optionally provided with one or more of the characteristics of the dependent claims.
Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment of the screen according to the invention, which is illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings wherein:
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the screen according to the invention;
- Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the screen according to the invention.
With reference to the figures, the screen according to the invention, generally designated by the reference numeral 10, comprises a substantially frame-like supporting framework 11 for a protective grille 12 to be arranged in front of the glass of a stove.
The supporting framework 11 and the protective grille 12 are made of wood.
The supporting framework 11 has two diverging side portions 13 that protrude from the rear, and which are designed to be arranged at the sides of the stove, and it also has a front cambering in order to follow the curvature of the stove, which is more or less pronounced as a function of the model of stove. The side wings 13 advantageously each have a longitudinal opening, in order to lighten the structure.
The protective grille 12 is advantageously constituted by parallel bars 14 (vertical and circular in cross-section in the example shown) which allow the passage of heat and of light through the slots that separate them. The arrangement of the bars 14 follows, preferably, the cambering of the framework 11.
The supporting framework 11 is made of multi-layered wood with fire- resistant treatment, preferably of multi-layered poplar wood, while the bars 14, therefore the front part of the screen 10, are constituted by posts of Koto wood, also with fire-resistant treatment, for example with water-based fire- retardant paint, ideal for indoor environments.
The screen 10 also advantageously comprises means 15 for association with the stove on the rear side of the supporting framework 11. Such association means 15 are preferably constituted by ten magnets (illustrated in Figure 2), five along the upper side and five along the lower side of the framework 11 (at the cambered part which acts as a frame to the protective grille 12), which are capable of keeping the screen associated with the stove by adhering to a metallic portion of the latter. Such magnets are preferably constituted by neodymium magnets and are adapted to be used where temperatures reach 150°C.
In the same region, along the upper side and along the lower side, there are holes 16, preferably equidistant (provided for example every 5 cm), in some of which the magnets are installed. The number of holes 16 is greater than the number of magnets, so as to allow the positioning of the latter along the framework 11 thus adapting the screen to the dimensions of the stove.
The screen 10 can be conveniently provided with a pair of lower wheels, in order to facilitate its movement and so adjust its distance from the stove.
Use of the screen according to the invention is evident from the foregoing description.
In particular, it is clear that the wooden structure, in addition to being aesthetically pleasing and with a low environmental impact owing to the materials with which it is provided, renders the glass of the stove inaccessible and ensures a good level of thermal insulation, both with pellet stoves and with wood-fired stoves, for which the temperatures reached by the front glass are typically higher, thus preventing the possibility that the user might get burned by coming into contact with the surface of the glass.
In the event of a fire, the wood structure with fire-resistant treatment will not collapse, as the flames and the heat create a carbonization on the surface that limits the propagation of the combustion internally. Fire- retardant paints increase safety for the user.
Furthermore, the grille enables the diffusion outside of the heat originating from the fire port of the stove and at the same time the bars that constitute the grille can be arranged at a distance from each other such as to prevent the passage between them of the fingers of a hand, even that of a child.
The use of wood makes it possible to limit the overall weight of the screen, thus making it suitable for being supported by magnets.
It should also be noted that the cambered shape makes it possible to adapt the screen to glass fronts of different types: both flat and cambered or glass fronts with special concavities, for example shaped like a circular arc, oval, trapezoid etc.
In practice it has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects by providing a protective screen that can also be used with wood-fired stoves, which is effective and has a pleasing visual impact and the structure of which enables the diffusion of heat outside.
The invention, thus conceived, is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the appended claims. Moreover, all the details may be substituted by other, technically equivalent elements.
In practice the materials employed, provided they are compatible with the specific use, and the contingent dimensions and shapes, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.

Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly, such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
