Abstract
A device and a method for attaching a drill body (8) to a tubular slot drill (1) which is arranged to drill in the ground (4), the slot drill (1) being provided, at its lower end portion (10), with at least one drill body (8) detachable from the slot drill (1).
Description
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ATTACHING A DRILL BODY TO A SLOT DRILL
This invention relates to a device for attaching a drill body to a tubular slot drill which is arranged to drill in the ground. The invention also comprises a method for attaching a drill body to a tubular slot drill.
It is known to drill a slot-shaped opening in the ground, for example to be able to insert a tubular composite mast or an adapter belonging to a composite mast into the slot, the slot constituting a mounting device between the composite mast and the ground.
Patent documents WO2004/101914 and DE29703858 disclose slot drills with fixed teeth integrated in the slot drill itself.
A tooth, termed a drill body below, which is made of a relatively hard material, such as diamond or tungsten carbide, is attached to the, in the position of application, lower end portion of the slot drill. A form of soldering is often used to attach the drill body to the end portion. So-called hard soldering has been used, using a silver-containing binder.
It is obvious that soldering new drill bodies and desoldering worn drill bodies are conditional on the slot drill being demounted from its driving unit and carried to a suitable place where the soldering operations can take place under controlled conditions.
The invention has for its object to remedy or reduce at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art or at least provide a useful alternative to the prior art.
The object is achieved through the features that are specified in the description below and in the claims that follow.
The device and the method according to the invention include releasably attaching the drill body to the slot drill. Tests have been done, in which the drill body has been sol-
dered to an intermediate piece which has been bolted to the end portion of the slot drill. A solution like that enables replacement of drill bodies without the slot drill having to be demounted from the driving unit to which it is mounted.
The invention is defined by the dependent claims. The independent claims define advantageous embodiments of the invention.
In a first aspect, the invention relates to a tubular slot drill, which includes a lower end portion, arranged to drill in the ground, the slot drill further including a drill body, the drill body being placed in the lower end portion, and the drill body being detachable from the slot drill .
By detachable is meant that the drill body may be attached to or removed from the slot drill by means of a tool and without melting processes having to be used.
The replacement of worn drill bodies is thereby considerably simplified as the worn drill bodies may be detached and new ones be fitted to the slot drill at the drilling site by means of a simple tool. No demounting of the slot drill from the driving unit or heating of the slot drill or drill bodies is required.
The detachable drill body may be attached to the slot drill by means of at least one fastener. By a fastener are understood all the fasteners that will be known to a person skilled in the art.
In a preferred embodiment, the at least one fastener comprises a screw connection. The at least one fastener may consist of a bolt.
The at least one fastener may consist of a rivet, a hook or a wedge.
In a second aspect, the invention relates more specifically to a method for attaching a drill body to a tubular slot drill which is arranged to drill in the ground, the method comprising :
- releasably attaching the drill body to the slot drill.
The method may comprise attaching the detachable drill body to the lower portion of the slot drill by means of at least one fastener.
In some cases, it is practical to form the drill body in such a way that it may, for example, be bolted directly to the slot drill, but as relatively brittle materials are involved here, it is advantageous to use an intermediate piece.
The device and method according to the invention solve the task by attaching the drill body to the slot drill in a relatively simple and cost-effective way.
In what follows, examples of preferred embodiments and methods are described, which are visualized in the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 shows schematically a vertical section of a slot drill with a suitable driving unit during the drilling of a slot-shaped opening in the ground;
Figure 2 shows a section I-I of figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a view II-II of figure 2. The view shows a drill body which is attached, according to the prior art, to a slot drill;
Figure 4 shows the section I-I of figure 1, but after the slot drill has been provided with a drill body which is attached to the slot drill according to the invention; and
Figure 5 shows a section IV-IV of figure 4.
In the drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates a drill which is being moved into the ground 4 by means of a driving unit 2. The ground 4 may consist of, for example rock, unconsolidated masses or bog, alternatively a combination of these.
The driving unit 2 is typically trued up and secured to the ground 4 or to some other suitable device, not shown, after which the driving unit 2, which is typically electrically or hydraulically driven, moves the slot drill under rotation into the ground 4. A slot- shaped opening 6 with an even cross section is thereby formed. The slot drill 1 is then pulled out of the opening 6.
In figure 2, a section is shown, in which a drill body 8 is attached to the lower end portion 10 of the slot drill 1 by means of prior art, for example by hard soldering. In hard soldering, both soldering and desoldering must be performed on a demounted slot drill, which takes a relatively long time.
Figure 3 shows a side view of the slot drill 1 of figure 2.
In figure 4, a section is shown, in which the slot drill 1 is provided with drill bodies 8 which are attached to the slot drill according to the invention, see also figure 5.
In figures 4 and 5, the drill bodies 8 are shown attached to an intermediate piece 12 by means of hard soldering . The intermediate piece 12 is bolted to the slot drill by
means of fasteners 14, here in the form of bolts 16. To further ensure that the drill body 8 is prevented from becoming displaced relative to the end portion 10, a transverse groove 18 has been made in the end portion 10, cooperating with a bead 20 on the intermediate piece 12. As shown, the bead 20 projects into the groove 18.
The drill body 8 has been recessed somewhat into the intermediate piece 12 to ensure improved attachment to the intermediate piece 12.
It should be noted that all the above-mentioned embodiments illustrate the invention, but do not limit it, and persons skilled in the art may construct many alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the attached claims. In the claims, reference numbers in brackets are not to be regarded as restrictive. The use of the verb "to comprise" and its different forms does not exclude the presence of elements or steps that are not mentioned in the claims. The indefinite article "a" or "an" before an element does not exclude the presence of several such elements.
The fact that some features are indicated in mutually different dependent claims does not indicate that a combination of these features cannot be used with advantage.

C l a i m s
A tubular slot drill (1), which includes a lower end portion (10), arranged to drill in the ground (4), the slot drill (1) further including a drill body (8), c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that:
- the drill body (8) is placed in the lower end portion (10); and
- the drill body (8) is detachable from the slot drill (1) .
The slot drill according to claim 1, wherein the detachable drill body (8) is attached to an intermediate piece (12).
The slot drill according to claim 2, wherein the intermediate piece (12) includes a bead (20) projecting into a transverse groove (18) in the end portion (10).
The slot drill according to claim 1, wherein the detachable drill body (8) is attached to the slot drill (1) by means of at least one fastener (14).
The slot drill according to claim 3, wherein the at least one fastener (14) is a screw connection.
The slot drill according to claim 3, wherein the at least one fastener (14) is a bolt (16).
The slot drill according to claim 3, wherein the at least one fastener (14) is a rivet.
The slot drill according to claim 3, wherein the at least one fastener (14) is a hook.
The slot drill according to claim 3, wherein the at least one fastener (14) is a wedge.
