  • the applicant has constructed a number of 3d printed plastic versions of Figure E. When made from plastic the locking has been seen to be sufficient to hold the fastening element to the support under action of hand pressure. Extruded embodiments made from aluminium are yet to be tested. It is anticipated that the extruded embodiments will function in a similar manner and provide a tighter holding of the fastening element to the support.

  • the elongate body 14 comprises two side wall abutments 11 providing an engagement surface 13 for bearing against a wall or post structure 15(See Figure 9).
  • the two side wall abutments 11 allow the elongate body 14 to be fixed to the wall structure 15.
  • the elongate body 14 provides an opening 26 extending along the length of the body 14 for receiving the support 12.
  • the elongate body 14 includes an internal locator 21 for locating the support 12 at a fixed insertion depth 25 when inserted into the opening 26.
  • the elongate body 14 comprises a head portion 16 and a lower portion 17 having a first side wall 18 and a second side wall 20.
  • the second side wall 20 is of a greater lateral depth than the first side wall 18.
  • the head portion 16 connects the first side wall 18 to the second side wall 20.
  • the head portion 16 is configured to allow the wall mounting element 10 to be mounted against the wall structure 15 using conventional wall fasteners 23 (See Figure 9) that are inserted into the opening 26 and are fixed through the body 14 into the wall structure 15.

  • Various forms of fastener could be used to screw or otherwise fix the wall mounting element 10 to the wall structure 15.

  • the internal locator 21 comprises an extension 28 that extends along the elongate body 14 in a longitudinal direction and across the elongate body 14 in a lateral direction. This occurs at the location of the insertion depth 25, inset from the opening 26.
  • the internal locator 21 comprises a pair of internal walls 27 that provide a back wall structure 34 for the support 12. More particularly the internal locator 21 comprises two tab portions that extend from opposite sides 18, 20 of the body 14 across the elongate body 14 at a location inset from the opening 26.
  • each of the side wall abutments 11 comprise adjacent side wall abutments 11 arranged at offset angles relative to the opening.
  • the wall mounting element 10 is considered to be advantageous in terms of applications to systems such as those described in Australian Provisional Application 2016902172 filed 3 June 2016 and entitled 'PANEL SYSTEMS AND COMPONENTS'. This is because the fastening systems therein described are directed towards supports 12 (panel mounts 10) having tolerances where play can be accommodated by the panel members 20.
  • the wall mounting element 10 includes an internal locator 21 that advantageously allows the support 12 to be fixed at the insertion depth 25 within the elongate body 14 using the fasteners 45.
  • the fasteners 45 can be screwed or otherwise fixed to secure the support 12 at the insertion depth within the elongate body 14 by boring through the walls 18, 20.
  • a wall mounting element 10 is secured to a wall structure 15 using fasteners 23.
  • the wall mounting element 10 then receives the support 12 through the opening 26.
  • the support 12 is located against the internal locator 21 and is fixed at the insertion depth 25 using fasteners 45.
  • FIGS 6, 7 and 8 illustrate a fastening system 55 comprising: a support 12 and a plurality of fastening elements 59 .
  • Each fastening element 59 comprises a fastener- support mating portion 61 for engagement with a corresponding support-fastener mating portion 63 of the support 12.
  • the support 12 has the corresponding support-fastener mating portions 63 . disposed therealong.
  • the fastening system further includes a wall mounting element 10 comprising: an elongate body 14 having at least one side wall abutment 11 providing an engagement surface for bearing against a wall structure 15; the at least one side wall abutment 11 allowing the elongate body 14 to be fixed to the wall structure 15; the elongate body 14 has an opening 26 extending along the length of the body 14 for receiving the support 12; the elongate body 14 includes an internal locator 21 for locating the support 12 at a fixed insertion depth 25 when inserted into the opening 26.
  • the fastening elements 59 provide a degree of play when connecting to the horizontal panels 65.
  • Figures 9 and 10 illustrate a further embodiment having conventional wall fasteners 23 and rivets 45 that are used to fix the wall mounting element to the wall and the support to the wall mounting element.
  • Figures 11 to 14 show a number of alternative embodiments.
  • the head portion may be configured as a further alternate side wall abutment in the form of three adjacent side wall abutments, or 5 adjacent side wall abutments. It would be considered that the addition of further adjacent side wall abutments may provide the advantage of forming a wall mounting element that may be applied to a wall structure at various angles.
  • the tab portions may be of any length that is suitable for use in the role of the internal locator for the support.
