  • many different pieces of equipment are utilized together on the same site in order to achieve a specific goal.
  • a very popular piece of equipment is that which is called a "compact excavator". These machines are very useful in excavating (normally in a location where access is limited). A problem in using such a piece of equipment is their inefficiency in moving large amounts of material at a single time. Frequently, contractors will utilize an additional piece of equipment such as a skid steer or loader to displace large amounts of material.
  • track excavators include a digging bucket with a hydraulic levelling blade being located at one end thereof.
  • the hydraulic levelling blade is attached to a hydraulic cylinder which supports the levelling blade, also known as a dozer blade, which is designed to lift and stabilize an excavator during digging.
  • the lifting capacity of the hydraulic cylinder is substantial in order to manage the considerable weight capacities.
  • the track excavator will have a digging bucket which is designed to form the conventional excavation function of the excavator.
  • a material handling implement comprising a container, the container having a base, first and second side walls, a rear wall, and a cradle secured to one of the side walls and rear wall, the cradle having first and second arms, each of the arms being movable between a first position wherein the base remains substantially horizontal when the container is lifted and a second position wherein the base extends diagonally when the container is lifted such that material may be discharged therefrom.
  • Track excavators are well known in the prior art and generally comprise an operator's booth mounted on a frame which is movable through the use of a pair of caterpillar threads on either side of the device.
  • Mounted on the tractor is an excavating bucket or digging bucket.
  • the levelling blade is simply used for pushing earth or the like. It is hydraulically connected to move vertically as required.
  • the excavating bucket functions through a hydraulic drive which can move the arms on which the bucket is mounted and thereby perform the excavating function. Such arrangements are well known in the art.
  • the implement of the present invention is preferably made of a steel material.
  • Suitable metallic materials are known in the art.
  • the implement may be coated to withstand rusting thereof.

  • Material handling implement 10 includes a base 12 having a front edge 14, a rear edge 16, and a pair of side edges 18, 20.
  • a vertically extending back wall 22 extends upwardly from rear edge 16 of base 12 while side walls 24, 26 extend upwardly from side edges 18, 20, respectively.
  • Side walls 24 and 26 are also connected to back wall 22. It will be noted that side walls 24, 26 are substantially triangular in nature. This configuration helps in optimum loading of material handling implement 10.
  • Retaining members 28 comprise a member which extends upwardly from each of side walls 24, 26 at a point near where side walls 24, 26 meet front edge 14 of base 12.
  • the retaining members are designed to retain any longitudinally extending member which may extend beyond the capacity of material handling implement 10— i.e. the distance between side walls 24, 26.
  • Brackets 30, 32 are designed to mount a cradle generally designated by reference numeral 34. Naturally, brackets 30, 32 could be connected to any appropriate surface.
  • Cradle 34 includes first and second cradle arms 36 and 38. As each cradle arm 36, 38 is of a similar construction, only one will be described herein.
  • Cradle arm 36 has a first segment 40 which is contiguous with a second segment 42.
  • First segment 40 and second segment 42 are substantially perpendicular to each other— the angle would generally range between 80 ° and 100°.
  • a third segment 44 is contiguous with second segment 42 and again is substantially perpendicular thereto. In other words, generally the angle between second segment 42 and third segment 44 would be between 80° and 100° .
  • a fourth segment 46 is contiguous with third segment 44 and forms an acute angle with respect thereto. Segment 42, third segment 44 and fourth segment 46 together define a recess generally designated by reference numeral 48.
  • recess 48 is such that when the arms are in an upward position (as shown in Figure 14), the bucket of the tractor will securely grip material handling implement 10 such that the same may be lifted without falling off.
  • fourth segment 46 forming an acute angle with respect to third segment 44.
  • second segment 42 extends sufficiently rearwardly such that discharge of the contents from the material handling implement is accomplished.
  • third segment 44 is located such that it is rearward of back wall 22.
  • First horizontal member 50 comprises an inner tube 52 and an outer tube 54.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un outil de manipulation de matériau (10) qui comprend un contenant qui comporte une base (12), des première et seconde parois latérales (24, 26), une paroi arrière (22) et un berceau (34) fixé à l'une des parois latérales et la paroi arrière, le berceau comportant des premier et second bras (36, 38), chacun des bras étant mobile entre une première position dans laquelle la base reste sensiblement horizontale lorsque le contenant est levé et une seconde position dans laquelle la base s'étend diagonalement lorsque le contenant est levé.
