  • the system for providing a mobile terminal of cellular telephony with information and/or service associated with localisation of the mobile terminal may be used in many various situations, inter alia, for transmitting to the user of the mobile terminal marketing messages, information about points received in a customer loyalty program, competitions, start or end of parking payment collection, welcome notifications, discount coupons, information about deactivation of lighting or air-conditioning at home or in the office, information about safe arrival of a child at home or school, information about alarms, threats or evacuation, a phone call, an opinion survey, age verification during shopping, verification of access to a part of a building (opening doors using the phone) , sending a webpage link in connection with current whereabouts .
  • the invention is based on the use of the existing known infrastructure of a cellular telephony network.
  • an area is covered with a grid of high- power base stations BTS 1 with a given range.
  • the infrastructure of the system 100 of the mobile network operator (MNO) also contains low-power base stations 2 (e.g. on the milliwatt or watt level) forming small cells (as shown in Fig. 1) .
  • small cells e.g. femtocells, picocells, attocells and the like are distinguished.
  • the low-power base stations 2 may be installed, e.g., in buildings, tunnels and similar places, which are hardly accessible for a cellular telephony network. Both the high-power base stations 1 and the low-power base stations 2, or mini BTS stations 2, have their individual identifiers in the cellular network, broadcast by corresponding signals. In accordance with the invention, it is anticipated that the system and the method may use the infrastructure of one or several MNOs. In one of the variants, several MNOs 100 may use one low-power base station 2 simultaneously .

For instance, the fact of entering the range of the low-power base station 2 is detected as a value of power of the signal being received from the low-power base station 2, which is noted or noticed by the mobile terminal. For instance, it is detected based on changes in the list 3a of strongest signals received by the mobile terminal 3 (which is shown in Fig. 2) . A change in this list 3a is indicated to the program 3b running on the SIM card 3c or the mobile terminal 3.
  • the identifier of each new low- power base station 2 in the list 3a is checked. If the identifier originates from the range allocated to the base stations and is used for localisation, Information on this event is transmitted to the central 102. Based on this and using the database 101 of base stations (BTS) known to the cellular network operator, the location of the mobile terminal 3 is determined as the location of the low-power base station 2. It is also possible to use another method for determination of location of the mobile terminal as the location of the low-power base station 2. For instance, the application monitoring the identifiers of the low- power base stations 2 may run on the phone and may require a login, password, which may be shared on several mobile stations 3.
