Description

A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE COMPRISING A WATERPROOF CONTROL PANEL ASSEMBLY
The present invention relates to an electrical household appliance comprising a control panel assembly involving a liquid insulation arrangement to protect an electronic control card of the electrical household appliance.
Modern household appliances having different structural forms, laundry treatment machines such as washing, drying or combo washing drying machines usually accommodate a control panel on the upper front face thereof designed to be facing the user, thereby allowing ease of access.
The control panel assembly typically comprises a main body and a plurality of buttons and/or knobs assigned to perform different functions in association with the electrical household appliance. The buttons may be provided to operate tactile switches in the form of on/off electronic switches, operable when a given button is pressed. Therefore the user presses a button and the corresponding function on the control panel assembly of the appliance is executed.
Said buttons of the control panel assembly are typically installed into button recesses of a button bearing portion so as to communicate with an electronic control card of the household appliance. However, these button recesses increase the risk of water leakage to the electronic control card positioned behind the control panel assembly so that liquid leakage and damage to the electronic control card as well as more dangerous situations such as fire must be avoided.
To address the above mentioned risks, the button recesses can be integrated with panel body as a monolithic body and preventing liquids to reach the electronic components of the control card.
A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as CN101377048, which discloses a button waterproof structure of a washing machine; the button waterproof structure comprises a control panel on the top of the washing machine, a decoration board above the control panel and a computer board component below the control panel; the control panel is provided with a plurality of sets of buttons and display areas corresponding to a computer board circuit; the computer board component comprises a circuit board with a display screen, a computer board box below the computer board and used to support the computer board, and a box cover plate above the computer board and used to protect the computer board; the lower bottom surface of the decoration board and the upper plane of the box cover plate are provided with an upper lug and a lower lug corresponding to the display areas, so as to protect a water permeability resistant component of the display screen; waterproof mechanisms used to prevent water from being leaked from the gaps of button holes are arranged at the positions of corresponding buttons of the decoration board and between the buttons and the box cover plate.
The present invention provides a household appliance control panel assembly with an electronic control card which is effectively protected against water intrusion and providing improved engineering tolerance as pointed out by the characterizing features defined in Claim 1 and subsequent Claims.
Primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved protection for the electronic control card of an electrical household appliance against liquid intrusion.
The present invention relates to an electrical household appliance with a control panel assembly. Said assembly has a panel body, buttons, electronic control card and integrally configured auxiliary parts to protect the electronic card against liquid intrusion. The control panel assembly comprises a panel body first portion and a panel body second portion creating a button zone between inwardly and integrally extending panel body first and second members to receive at least one button. A centrally extending switch interaction part of the button is surrounded by two button recess blocks in each horizontal or vertical direction, these blocks being integral with said panel body first and second members.
Each button has side extensions at its sides. If more than one button is disposed side by side vertically or horizontally, a side extension of a button is received into a first intermediate zone formed by said panel body first member and an integral button recess block. The opposite side extension of the button is then received into a second intermediate zone formed by two button recess blocks.

The present invention provides a control panel assembly (1) for an electrical household appliance such as for instance a dishwasher or a laundry treatment appliance in the form of a washing machine, drying machine or combo washing/drying machine, comprising an electronic control card (2) attached on the inner side of a panel body (15).
Pairs of neighboring buttons (6) with their longitudinal body portions extending perpendicular to the electronic control card (2) are separated by small intermediate spaces on the front surface of the control panel assembly (1), which might cause risk of water leakage into the inner components of the electrical household appliance.
The present invention overcomes the problem of liquid leakage through said intermediate spaces in between and around the touch buttons (6) to the electronic control card (2) by way of creating a button zone (5) covered by button recess blocks (14) in front of said electronic control card (2). Said button zone (5) has an improved structural design with the button recess blocks (14) receiving said buttons (6) mechanically communicating with said tactile switches (8) without creating water flowing paths in the direction of the electronic control card (2).
In conventional electrical household appliances, typically a separator (7) is positioned in front of the electronic control card (2) to be functioning as a physical separator, light carrier and liquid leakage barrier preventing liquids reaching to the circuit elements of the electronic control card (2) as illustrated in Figure 1b. In reference to Figure 2, in order to mount the separator (7) on the panel body (15), several connection elements such as latching members (9) and positioning extensions (10) are needed. The present invention eliminates the need for making use of such additional components and provides a more cost effective and compact configuration. Instead of using interengaging elements assembled to prevent liquid leakage, an integrally configured monolithic structure is proposed as will be delineated hereinafter.
Said control panel assembly (1) has a panel body first portion (3) and a panel body second portion (4) creating said button zone (5) delimited between a panel body first member (16) and a panel body second member (17) respectively integral with said panel body first portion (3) and panel body second portion (4). Said button zone (5) receives at least one button (6) which activates a tactile switch (8) of the electronic control card (2). The fact that said panel body first member (16) and panel body second member (17) extending in the direction of an operational displacement axis of a button (6) and being integral with button recess blocks (14) extending parallel with said operational displacement axis to carry and guide buttons (6) provides protection to ensure impermeability against liquid passage and associated electronic card damages.
Two button recess blocks (14) are provided around the longitudinal body of a button (6) to form a carrying and guiding support for the same while movable to contact a respective tactile switch (8). Said panel body (15) and the button recess blocks (14) have a monolithic structure such that the user operates the control panel assembly (1) by way of pressing buttons (6) installed so as to communicate with the electronic control card (2) in a preserved manner, i.e. without allowing liquid flow into the control card.
In reference to Figure 3b, a button tip tab (18) is provided as a projected part at the end of the longitudinal button body to press on a tactile switch (8). Another extension on the button (6) tip at its inner side is a button tooth (12) that acts as an engagement end when retracting. It then cooperates with a button recess extension (13) to prevent release of the button (6).
In case of vertically or horizontally neighboring buttons (6) as it is illustrated in Figure 4a, one side of the longitudinal button array on the panel body (15) constitutes the panel body first portion (3) and the other side thereof constitutes the panel body second portion (4). The button zone (5) between the panel body first portion (3) and the panel body second portion (4) and as delimited by said panel body first member (16) and panel body second member (17) as shown by dashed lines in Fig. 4b includes at least one button (6) and at least two button recess blocks (14). In other words, when the user presses a button (6) dedicated to execute a specific function of the household appliance, the button (6) moves in the button zone (5) and two side extensions (19) of the button (6) extending perpendicular to the front surface are received into an intermediate zone (20). The latter can be formed by one of the panel body first or second members (16 or 17) and a button recess blocks (14). Alternatively, an intermediate zone (20) can be formed by two button recess blocks (14). As shown in Fig. 4b, the upper side extension (19) of the upper button (6) is received into an intermediate zone (20) formed by said panel body first member (16) and a button recess block (14) whereas the lower side extension (19) of the upper button (6) is received into an intermediate zone (20) formed by two button recess blocks (14). All button recess blocks (14) are integral with a single monolithic structure, which is also integral with said panel body first and second portions (3, 4).
In reference to Figure 5, the flexible movement of the buttons (6) is ensured by at least one of flexible arm (11) integral therewith and leaning on an inner wall portion of the panel body (15) in the button zone (5).
In a nutshell, the present invention provides an electrical household appliance comprising a control panel assembly (1), said control panel assembly (1) having a panel body (15) provided with a plurality of buttons (6) to effect control of said electrical household appliance by pressing on tactile switches (8) of an electronic control card (2).
