Abstract
The present invention relates to methods of metabolic engineering to increase the levels of short branched-chain fatty acids (SBCFAs) produced by microorganisms such as yeast. More particularly, the invention provides methods to engineer Saccharomyces cerevisiae to overexpress Ehrlich pathway genes, inhibit at least one alcohol dehydrogenase and enhance secretion of the produced SBCFAs, and also provides recombinant cells produced by such methods.
