Abstract
In this invention, we maintain application level objects containing counters for different application statistics. We maintain this for all applications by having a bitmap where there is one bit per application identifier or process identifier mapping to its corresponding memory region consisting of the application objects containing its counters for statistics. The above capability is provided in the form of a library. Also each thread of the process or application registers with the library before doing any atomic increment or decrement operations on its counters part of its statistics and the library allows only one thread per application to write at a time.
Description
In this invention, we maintain application level objects containing counters for different application statistics. We maintain this for all applications by having a bitmap where there is one bit per application identifier or process identifier mapping to its corresponding memory region consisting of the application objects containing its counters for statistics. The above capability is provided in the form of a library. Also each thread of the process or application registers with the library before doing any atomic increment or decrement operations on its counters part of its statistics. Hence, only one thread per application or process is allowed to access its
corresponding memory region containing application level objects with the help of the bitmap for writing and it does so by atomically setting the corresponding bit for the process or application in the bitmap to value 1.
Claims
1. In this invention, we maintain application level objects containing counters for different application statistics. We maintain this for all applications by having a bitmap where there is one bit per application identifier or process identifier mapping to its corresponding memory region consisting of the application objects containing its counters for statistics. The above capability is provided in the form of a library.
2. Also each thread of the process or application registers with the library before doing any atomic increment or decrement operations on its counters part of its statistics. Hence, only one thread per application or process is allowed to access its corresponding memory region containing application level objects with the help of the bitmap for writing and it does so by atomically setting the
corresponding bit for the process or application in the bitmap to value 1.
