Description

Pot with a Lid
Description
The present invention relates to a pot with a lid for cooking food, in particular for boiling water, and for the consequent drainage of the cooking liquid itself.
It is known that for the preparation of cooked food such as pasta, vegetables and others by boiling, which provides the use of boiling water, a subsequent drainage is necessary in order to separate the cooking liquid, which is still hot, from cooked food.
The drainage usually is performed by means of tools or utensils such as colander or strainers with various sizes and the like.
However, said process involves risks for the person who performs it and even for other people who in case are in close proximity, considering the high temperature which often the cooking liquid has.
Moreover, one wants to avoid that the portions of cooked food could break upon impacting on the utensil which is used for drainage. Such utensil then has to be washed separately and the washing process is quite boring due to the possible food residues jammed in the small holes therethrough the liquid passes.
Some solutions to the above-illustrated problem are known. In some cases the use of a strainer is provided which remains inside the pot while the food is being cooked, and which allows the drainage of the same by simply lifting the strainer from the liquid remaining in the pot .
Such solution, common in the professional kettles, however requires that cooking is performed with a greater quantity of water, which should fill-in the space between pot and strainer. Moreover, the presence of an additional utensil in water determines a greater heat consumption for cooking, which then results to be a few effective and to have longer cooking time. On the other side, when the strainer is substantially constituted by a metallic grid, the strainer requires a difficult and accurate washing after use due to the residues which could stick to the meshes of said grid and, in each case, it represents a third element which has to used in addition to the pot itself and to its lid.
Another known solution consists in accessories which could be connected to the pots, that is perforated screens which could be secured to the inner edge of the pot, in case equipped with manually actuated fastening means .
This type of tools is used when the lid has been removed and they constitute a perforated barrier against the passage of the solid food product contained in the vessel, by allowing the cooking liquid to flow out.
This type of utensil is sufficiently effective on itself, but it does not represent a solution as it represents and additional utensil to be used and then washed, exactly like a strainer. Furthermore, the drainage has to be performed very slowly in order to avoid a not controlled outflow of the boiling water due to an abrupt detachment of the screen.
US patent No. 3,065,855 describes a complex pot for boiling which comprises a double lid equipped with holes and a complex fixing system providing the insertion of the innermost lid inside the pot.
Even US patent No. 2,541,094 describes a dome-like lid which is put inside a low pot and which could be useful to drain the inner liquid.
British patent No. 304, 971 describes a pot with a lid which can be fixed inside the upper edges of the vessel, with a series of holes formed at such edge for draining a cooking liquid.
Even British patent No. 231,024 describes a pot with a concealed draining device formed on the lid, which is inserted inside the pot and hooked there.
Another concealed device is described in US patent No. 1,997,509.
US patent No. 1,328,558 describes a pot wherein the lid is fastened to a rounded edge of the pot mouth, which implements a fastening on a partial arc of the mouth.
Finally, International patent application No. WO 00/45687 describes a pot with a lid equipped with perforation to drain the inner liquid, having an extension fixed in the mouth of the pot body thereof.
As it can be noted, in the state of art whenever one wishes to implement a firm and safe fixing between a perforated lid and the pot thereof, a portion of the lid is inserted in the mouth.
The mechanical contact between lid and pot, then, over time, produces a wear of the pot itself, in particular of the inner portion thereof which usually is coated with an anti-adherent resin. This wear then causes the removal of such resin which, even if in minimum quantity, could pollute the inner portion of the pot, that is the food which is being cooked. This risk, even if it may be theoretical, represents a very negative factor for the pot users, who tend not to use it if the inner coating is not perfectly integer and, on the contrary, it has scratches or abrasions.
The technical problem underlying the present invention is to provide a pot with a lid which can be fixed to the pot body allowing to obviate the drawback mentioned with reference to the known art.
Such problem is solved by a pot as specified above which characterizes in that it comprises a pot vessel with a circular mouth limited by an edge and a likewise circular lid, having a central portion, with substantially conical or dome-like shape, with a perforation on an area of the lid, wherein:
· the lid further comprises an edge structure providing a first radial extension joined to a coronal extension by forming inside the lid a concave annular groove, the coronal extension comprising a pair of pins projecting therefrom; and · the vessel, at the edge, comprises a second radial extension projecting radially so as to unite to the first radial extension of the lid by constituting a resting base thereof, with sizes so as to insert inside the coronal extension of the lid, the second radial extension comprising a pair of opposite notches, positioned so as to allow the insertion, therethrough, of the pins.
The main advantage of the pot with a lid according to the present invention lies in the fact of allowing a firm and effective connection of the lid, so that there are not mechanical wear phenomena in the pot inner coating.
The present invention will be described hereinafter according to a preferred embodiment example, provided by way of example and not for limitative purposes by referring to the enclosed drawings wherein:
* figure 1 show a side view in partial section of the upper portion of a pot according to the present invention, with the detached lid;
* figure 2 shows a plan view in partial section of the upper portion of figure 1;
* figure 3 a side view in partial section of the upper portion of figure 1, with the lid connected to the pot;
* figure 4 shows an enlarged detail and in partial section of the pot of figure 1; and * figure 5 shows a whole side view of the pot of figure 1 during the use thereof.
By referring to the figures, a pot is designated as a whole with 1. It has a pot vessel 2, equipped with side handles 3 opposite one with respect to the other one and fastened near the upper edge 4 of the mouth of the vessel 2, and a lid 5 circular like said mouth, equipped with central knob 6.
It is to be meant that the represented pot type (figure 5) is shown purely as an example of the type, but it does not limit the applicability of the present invention.
The lid 5 has a central portion 7 with substantially conical or dome-like shape, and it has a perforation 8 of holes with small sizes, distributed over an area of the lid 5 itself, which extends from the base to the top of the central portion 7. Such area can occupy an arc of such cover comprised between 60° and 180°. It is to be meant that the conical or dome-like shape of the central portion projects in direction of the central axis of the pot, moving away from the inside of the pot itself, so that the lid 5 has a concavity faced towards the inside of the pot 1.
The lid 5 further comprises an edge structure 9 providing a first radial extension 10 which forms an annular concavity faced in direction opposite to the concavity of the central portion 7, and which surrounds said central portion .
The radial extension 10 joins to a coronal extension 11 extending in opposite direction with respect to that of the annular concavity, so that inside the lid 5 a concave annular groove 12 is implemented.
The lid 5 then comprises a pair of pins 13 projecting from said coronal extension 11 inside the lid 5, that is towards the centre thereof. It is to be noted that the arrangement of the pins 13 is substantially horizontal, that is perpendicular to the central axis of the pot 1.
The pot body 2 comprises a second radial extension 14 projecting radially from the edge 4 of the vessel, so as to unite to the first radial extension 10 of the lid by constituting a resting base thereof.
The second radial extension 14 has sizes so as to insert inside the coronal extension 11 of the lid 5, with a minimum clearance between the two portions, both with circular development and then capable of rotating one with respect to the other one. When the lid 5 is positioned on the pot vessel 2 the terminal end of the second radial extension 14 of the edge 4 will be inserted in the annular groove formed in the lid 5.
The second radial extension 14 has a pair of opposite notches 15, positioned so as to allow the insertion, therethrough, of the pins 13.
Once performed this insertion and by rotating the lid 5 with respect to the vessel 2, the pins 3 will fix under the second radial extension 14, implementing a bayonet coupling .
In order to limit the rotation of the lid, from the outer surface of the vessel near the edge 4 the pot 1 comprises a pair of stops 16 for each notch 15, arranged to limit the stroke of the pins 13.
The position of the pins is so as to allow the positioning of the perforated area 8 of the lid 5 in a position comprised between the two handles 3, to be able to perform easily a draining procedure.
The herein described pot with a lid can be used for boiling and cooking with the lid 5 on the mouth of the vessel 2, with the coupling implemented by the above- described fixing. In this way, heat saving, less cooking time and greater safety, deriving from the fact that the pot content will not outflow in case of fall, are obtained .
During drainage (figure 5), the water or other cooking liquid outflows, with the lid 5 locked in its working position, from the perforated area 8.
To the above-described pot with a lid a person skilled in the art, in order to satisfy additional and contingent needs, could introduce several additional modifications and variants, all however comprised in the protective scope of the present invention, as defined by the enclosed claims.
