Abstract

The present invention relates to a device for immobilising an animal during experimental procedures. The invention is used in the field of animal experimentation, more specificially in the odontological field, such as in the experimental model of periodontal disease and mucositis, inter alia.

ANIMAL IMMOBILIZATION DEVICE DURING PROCEDURES

EXPERIMENTAL

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to a device for immobilizing. during experimental procedures.

[002] The invention has applications in the area of animal experimentation, more specifically, dental as in the experimental model of periodontal disease and mucositis. among others.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The following are the main state of the art documents involving devices for handling and immobilization.

EP1695617_A1 describes a device for immobilizing large animals and comfortable antigen during handling.

US4261295-A relates to a device for limiting the movement of small animals in experiments, however this technology allows only the immobilization of the animal in the supine position, which could compromise its breathing. The described technology of the patent document

US5184604___A is a device for keeping the upper and lower jaws separate during an intubation procedure for large animals.

Document CN201279198U refers to a utility model _/ em. lip-shaped, for experiments where mouth opening is required, and therefore the device is not about animal welfare.

[009] The device described in patent document

CN203169357U refers to a technology that allows to maintain the mouth opening of large animals.

State-of-the-art devices for small animals only concern the immobilization of the animal and the maintenance of the mouth opening, but without concern for providing comfort and welfare to the animal during immobilization.

While the devices intended for large animals deal mostly with animal immobilization and mouth opening, they do not describe care with. animal welfare, ensuring a comfortable immobilization, minimizing any distrust. Although patent document SP1695617_A1 permits animal welfare, it does not apply to small animals as in the proposed technology, which is aimed exclusively at access and precise manipulation of the orefacial region. EP1695617_A1 provides for the immobilization of the animal by means of a side barrier minimizing clearances. In the proposed technology, the animal is immobilized directly on the work field by means of immobilization that promotes safety to the animal, having its lower limbs fully immobilized without compromising its welfare.

[Q12J In view of the literature, it would be useful if the technique had an animal immobilization device capable of facilitating the handling, preparation and administration of samples and reagents involved in the experimental model under test. The animal can be contained comfortably without suffering and in accordance with good animal testing standards for experimental studies. The architecture of the equipment enables good animal handling practices combined with the production efficiency of the analysis measures. The present invention allows the animal to lie prone, remaining with the lower jaw separated from the upper jaw, enabling dental and ophthalmic treatments facilitating manipulation without compromising animal welfare.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVESTION

[013] The present invention relates to. a device for immobilization of animals during experimental procedures.

[014] The device for animal immobilization during experimental procedures comprises:

- a rectangle trapezoid bearing base (1), formed by a folded flat flat bar and its welded joints; support shoes (5) and lifting bolts (6);

- a working base (2) of transparent acrylic folded at 90 °, fixed to the support base (1) by screws; comprising a working field (71;

- mandibular support (10); and

- means for immobilization.

[015] The support base (1) comprises variable height adjustment between 20 ° and 25 °.

Embodiment Example

[024] The tests performed with the device were performed on 20 adult rats weighing between 300 and 450g for treatment of mucositis, periodontal and ophthalmic diseases _/ considering the weight of animals between 20g to 500g.

Periodontal disease

The animals were submitted to the test with extracts and. fractions of Pterodon pubescens Benth. Artemisia annua and ArraMdea chica to treat the periodontal disease, who had the disease for 1 day.

[026] The animal was anesthetized and after 30 minutes was placed in prone position, its paws were immobilized with a string; its body immobilized with a Veleró® strap and under the jaw was placed a silicone base jaw support (10), providing comfort and well-being.

[027] The upper and lower incisor teeth were fixed using string and elastic respectively. On day 6, a groove with orthodontic wire 0.20 d steel was made in both mucous membranes. On days 1, 8, 10, 12, 15 the animals were weighed, anesthetized and all mucosa everted for photography. After experimentation the animals were euthanized and their organs analyzed.

- a support base (1) in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid, formed by a folded flat flat bar and its welded joints; support shoes (5) and lifting bolts (6) /

- a transparent acrylic workbench (2) folded at 90 °, fixed to the support base (1) by screws; comprising a working field (7);

- mandibular support (10); and

- means for restraint,

Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the support base (1) comprises a variable height adjustment between 20 ° and 25 °.

Device according to claim 2, characterized in that the securing means can be selected from the Velcro®, string and elastic group.

Use of the device as defined in claims 1 to 3 for application in dental and ophthalmic animal experiments.
