Background
[0003] Cosmetic applicator technology has focused on size and shape of an applicator to achieve a desired result of cosmetic application. However, size and shape of applicators, such as brush bristles have not prevented problems with cosmetic application, such as application of a cosmetic in an area not intended for application. Products such as peel-off base coat or liquid tape which were first applied on skin area around nails before applying lacquer have been used to capture misapplied cosmetic.
Summary
[0004] Embodiments disclosed herein include an applicator that includes a stem; and an applier attached to the stem, wherein the applier is coated with a material that prevents liquid from adhering to the applier.

[0013] One embodiment disclosed herein includes a brush, as illustrated in one embodiment at 10 in Figure 1 . The brush 10 includes a handle 12 attached to a ferrule 16 that terminates in a heel 18. The term, "stem" as used herein, refers to all of the handle 12, ferule 16 and heel 18. A plurality of bustles 14, defining a belly 20 and a toe 22 are attached to the ferrule 16 at the heel 18. One or more bristles 14 or the plurality is made of or coated with a material that prevents liquid from adhering to or allows liquid to be wiped off easily from the one or more bristles 14. For some embodiments, the entire length of the bristle is made of or coated with the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the bristle or allows liquid to be wiped off easily. For other embodiments, only the tip of the bristle is coated with or formed from, the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the bristle or allows liquid to be wiped off easily from the bristles. For other embodiments, other lengths are coated with or formed from the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the bristle. For some embodiments, the coating of multiple bristles is of a uniform length. For other
embodiments, the coating on multiple bristles with the material that prevents liquid from adhering is not uniform. As used herein, the reference of a "material that prevents liquid from adhering to the bristle," a "material that allows liquid to be wiped off easily," and "impregnating liquid" all refer to the same material. Such ionic impregnating liquids can include, for example, tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene), phenyl isothiocyanate (phenyl mustard oil), bromo benzene, iodobenzene, obromotoluene, alpha-chloronaphthalene, alpha-bromonaphthalene, acetylene tetrabromide, 1 -butyl - 3-metliylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide (BMim), tribroniohydrin (1 ,2,3- tribromopropane), tetradecane, cyclohexane, ethylene dibromide, carbon disulfide, bromoform, methylene iodide (diiodomethane), stanolax, Squibb's liquid petrolatum, p-bromotoluene, monobromobenzene, perchloroethylene, MCT oil, carbon disulfide, phenyl mustard oil,

Examples of non-toxic liquid- impregnated surfaces are described in U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 /878,481 , (the '481 application) entitled "Non-toxic Liquid-Impregnated Surfaces", filed Sep. 16, 2013, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference herein.
[0019] In othe embodiments, the material coating one or more of the bristles or another part of the brush can include a material or coating comprising a hydrophobic or a superhydrophobic material. Hydrophobic material can include materials having a surface water contact angle of about or less than 90 degrees. Superhydrophobic materials can include materials having water contact angle of about or greater than 150 degrees. The material can comprise a lubricant-impregnated material or a self-repairing slippery surface. [0020] In one embodiment, illustrated at 50 in Figure 4, the brush 50 with the plurality of bristles 52 includes edge bristles 54 and interior bristles 56. In one embodiment, the brush 50 includes edge bristles 54 that are coated with the impregnating liquid that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles. In the bristle embodiment shown in Figure 4, coated edge bristles 54 are shorter than interior bristles 56. In another embodiment, shown in Figure 3, coated edge bristles 62 are longer than 64 interior bristles, hi another embodiment, the tips of one or more bristles of different lengths are coated with the impregnating liquid that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
[0021] Fig. 2 illustrates a brush with bristles of different lengths throughout the belly of bristles. In one embodiment, all of the bristles are coated with the impregnating liquid. In other embodiments, individual bristles are coated at different lengths.

The inventive brush embodiments disclosed herein conserves time and nail lacquer by allowing for precise lacquer delivery .
[0025] Stand alone brushes are disclosed herein. It is understood that brushes attached to caps wherein the bristles are immersed in nail lacquer are also treatable as disclosed herein.

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A brush comprising:
a stem;
a plurality of bristles attached to the stem, wherein one or more bristles comprises a material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
2. The brush of claim 1, wherein the plurality of bristles includes edge bristles and interior bristles.
3. The brush of claim 2, wherein the edge bristles are coated with the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
4. The brash of claim 2, wherein the edge bristles are longer than the interior bristles.
5. The brush of claim 1, wherein tips of one or more bristles are coated with the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
6. The brush of claim 1, wherein the plurality of bristles are coated at different lengths for each bristle of the plurality, with the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
7. The brash of claim 1, wherein the plurality of bristles are coated at the same length for each bristle of the plurality, with the material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
8. The brush of claim 2, wherein the edge bristles are longer than the interior bristles.
9. The brush of claim 2, wherein the edge bristles are shorter than the interior bristles.
10. The brush of claim 2, wherein the edge bristles and interior bristles are each of different lengths.
11. An applicator, comprising:
a stem;
a plurality of appliers attached to the stem, wherein one or more appliers comprises a material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more appliers.
12 A brush comprising:
a stem; a plurality of bristles attached to the stem, wherein the stem and optionally, one or more bristles comprises a material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more bristles.
13. An applicator, comprising:
a stem;
a plurality of appliers attached to the stem, wherein the stem and, optionally , one or more appliers is coated with a material that prevents liquid from adhering to the one or more appliers.
