Description

IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE PROVIDED WITH SPEECH-TO-TEXT PROCESSING FUNCTION
The present invention relates to an image display device having an alternative video processing function such that users can view different relevant scenes of a broadcast content on a TV channel.
Digital and interactive TV systems provide a comprehensive amount of TV channels and programs leading to the general outcome that conventional methods for interacting with the TV system in accordance with personal viewing preferences may become inefficient to the extent that such methods are simply unperformable in an efficient manner using conventional systems.
Image display devices today offer a versatile and wide range of functions, services as well as connectivity to the Internet. It is to be noted that a plurality of channels from different countries may be broadcasted in a multitude of categories. It is desirable to allow users to interact with the viewed program content in accordance with a given user’s interests. TV channels may for instance broadcast programs focusing on certain areas such as stock markets or sporting events and interested information contained in these programs might be missed as the user may not be continuously viewing the respective program.
Accordingly, in accordance with the present invention, users can be offered interested information by way of locating such information in the actual program content and rewind within the broadcast program content to the point where the interested information was presented.
Among others, one of the prior art disclosures in the technical field of the present invention can be referred to as WO2014186662, which discloses a cloud based video delivery system along with a method and graphical user interface for streaming synchronized video content data to a group of user devices. The user devices of the group receive speech to text converted audio (or speech-to-text communications) generated by the different users of their group along with the streaming video content data from the cloud based video delivery system. The speech to text communication and streaming video content data are then displayed on the user devices of the users in a synchronized fashion.
The present invention provides a system and method by which an image display device is operated such that users are provided with interested information being previously presented in the course of a broadcast program by way of performing a keyword search. The present invention therefore solves the technical problem of timewise locating of an already presented verbal statement in a broadcast program.
The present invention provides a method by which an image display device is operable to display a certain earlier scene or part of a broadcast program by way of performing a keyword search, as provided by the characterizing features defined in Claim 1.
Primary object of the present invention is to provide a system and method for operating an image display device by which a desired earlier scene or part of a broadcast program can be located and viewed.
The present invention proposes an image display device operable to selectively display interested portions of recorded program content. An electronic control unit of the image display device is configured to record broadcast program content and transform the audio signal content thereof into a time stamped text file. The user can then perform a keyword search in the time stamped text file and the part of the broadcast program content containing an interested keyword is displayed.
Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying a system and method by which an image display device is operable, whose advantages over prior art were outlined above and will be explained in brief hereinafter.
The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in the claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.
Fig. 1 demonstrates a general flow diagram according to which the image display device of the invention executes the method of automatically pinpointing a desired scene according to the present invention.
The present invention provides a system and method by which an image display device is operable to display potentially interested program content that was displayed earlier during the course of a TV program.
It is known that the PVR (Personal video recorder) function enables the users to make recordings of broadcast programs so that it is possible to pause the program being viewed and unpause it later to keep watching from the pausing point. It is also possible to rewind and fast forward the same within the recorded part of the broadcast.
In accordance with the present invention, the image display device automatically records any broadcast program being viewed and transforms the audio data transmitted through and stored in the transport stream. It is to be noted that the desired information may include anything like weather forecast data, road traffic data, sporting events results or stock market data. For instance, the user may miss information such as weather forecast data for a certain city or comments on a stock market company by a market analyst. In similar cases, he/she can reach relevant information previously presented on the screen and that was missed, as will be explained hereinafter.
The image display device of the present invention may be fitted with an internal memory in order for processing and storing transformed audio data. The audio data is conventionally transformed by processing the transport stream of a channel being viewed. It might happen that a channel currently not viewed by the user is recorded using a second tuner. As is known to the skilled worker, digital and interactive TV systems provide a comprehensive amount of TV channels and programs. A conventional structure receiving program contents receives a transport stream via a tuner. In order for viewing a first program content and processing a second program content, the receiver-decoder should have two tuners, which also enables various types of services including interactive functions such as picture-in-picture.
The signal processing device in the form of an image display device in accordance with the invention can be connected to a set-top box, the latter having a first tuner and a second tuner. The image display device itself or the receiver (set-top box) can therefore have multiple tuners as well as a first and second demodulator suitable for receiving broadcast multimedia content. In this regard, receivers capable of receiving and tuning to signals of different generations (e.g. DVB-T and DVB-T2, DVB-S and DVB-S2, DVB-C and DVB-C2) can be in use.
According to the present invention, an electronic control unit of the image display device decodes the received programs and the audio content of the program being viewed as extracted from the transport stream thereof is transcribed as a time stamped text file. To that end, the electronic control unit stores the time stamped text file in the internal memory, allowing the user to perform keyword searches in the text file.
If a keyword inputted by the user matches at least one expression in the converted audio data, the respective time stamped part of the recorded broadcast program is displayed on the screen, allowing the user to retrieve the interested information. This approach might prove particularly advantageous for news and latest headlines because while an Internet user can easily perform news searches to locate critical and interested information, TV users are not provided with advanced options to perform similar searches. Therefore, the present invention is devised under the recognition that older or technically-challenged persons cannot reach certain earlier parts of a broadcast program. While it is possible to rewind to a certain frame of recording, it is not possible to locate the exact part that contains relevant information the user is in fact interested. To that end, the converted audio files are processed as searchable text data and only the relevant parts of the recording in the broadcast program containing a certain keyword are presented to the user. Therefore, only the part with the core information is intended to be delivered.
As a practical example, a conversation between two sports commentators can contain certain keywords; for example, upon locating the name of a football team in the conversation as inputted by the user, the image display device will display that part of the conversation in the broadcast program and the user will have a chance to review the relevance of the information being presented.
As it is also known to the skilled worker, speech recognition and translation of spoken language into text is a field which is under practice for several years. The present invention also provides that the image display device also enables a user to configure a list of interested program categories. It is known that digital broadcasting services generally provide information in regards to the genre of the programs being watched. The genre information may typically define a certain number of categories characterizing the content of a program. A content identifier therefore describes the contextual category of the digital program so as to let users obtain information as to the classification of an event or a program.
According to an alternative embodiment of the present invention, a currently non-viewed channel can be automatically recorded if the program is in a category in the interest list of the user or other criteria as set by the user are fulfilled, such as for instance the name, genre, or any other particular as defined by the user. For instance, the user may set various settings in order for recording any broadcast program containing a certain actor’s name in the Electronic program guide (EPG) data.
Therefore, a certain program of interest can be detected based on the information provided by the broadcasting service provider. Only interested portions starting with the predetermined keywords can be viewed in a filtered manner, that is, only when predefined keywords are found in the source program.
In accordance with the invention, the image display devices having Internet connectivity may also alternatively retrieve a time stamped text file of a certain program from a remote source or database.
In the case of keyword-match based scene display, if more than one location in the time stamped source file is spotted, the user can preferably switch from one scene to another by simply pushing a dedicated remote control button in a conventional manner.
In summary, the present invention proposes an image display device receiving a plurality of broadcast program contents with audio signal contents from broadcasting service providers, the image display device comprising an electronic control unit.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the electronic control unit is configured to record a broadcast program content and transform the audio signal content associated with the broadcast program content in the form to be transcribed as a time stamped text file.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the image display device is fitted with an internal memory on which the electronic control unit stores the time stamped text file.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the electronic control unit performs a keyword search in the time stamped text file and the part of the broadcast program content containing the keyword is displayed.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, transformed audio signal content associated with the broadcast program content is processed as searchable text data.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the image display device comprises a plurality of tuners and the broadcast program content is recorded by a second tuner other than a first tuner used in viewing a broadcast program content other than the recorded broadcast program content.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, a channel being currently not viewed is recorded using the second tuner.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the electronic control unit is configured to retrieve a broadcast program content’s genre information from a broadcasting service provider on a program-specific basis,
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the broadcast program content is recordable based on the genre information in a selective manner.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the electronic image display devices has Internet connectivity and retrieves a time stamped text file of a broadcast program content from a remote source or database via a network connection.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, if more than one location in the time stamped source file is spotted, the more than one location are subsequently displayed.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the recorded broadcast program content is rewinded or fast forwarded around time stamped locations containing the keyword.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the part of the broadcast program content containing the keyword is displayed from an earlier predetermined point than the location of the keyword.
In this regard, the present invention ensures that an image display device is operable to selectively display recorded program content portions containing relevant content as located by way of transforming the audio content of the program into a searchable text data. The main advantage of the invention therefore lies in that the user is given more flexibility in the cases where he/she needs to pay attention to other things than viewing the program content, but can yet locate any missed relevant part of the program by performing simple keyword searches. The system can be particularly advantageous for content-specific channels such as news or stock market channels, in which case the user can record for instance a second non-viewed channel and review its content later thanks to the system of the present invention and locate any interested critical keywords (such as a stock market company name).
