Description
"CONTAINER FOR FOOD PRODUCTS"
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a container for food products.
BACKGROUND ART
In particular, the present invention relates to a container for food products of the type comprising a tray that is made of heat-sealable plastic material, is cup-shaped and is delimited by a side wall, which protrudes from a bottom wall of the tray and is ring-shaped closed around the bottom wall .
The bottom wall has a stepped shape and comprises a substantially flat central portion and a raised peripheral edge, which extends in a containment plane substantially parallel to and separate from the central portion, and is ring-shaped closed around the central portion at a given distance from the central portion.
The container further comprises a support sheet, which is made of heat-sealable plastic material, is inserted in the tray and is connected by welding to the peripheral edge of the bottom wall.
The central portion of the bottom wall and the support sheet define between them a space housing a pad of absorbent material.
The support sheet has a plurality of perforations and/or openings allowing the juices and/or liquids in the food product packed in the container to drip through the support sheet and to be absorbed by the pad of absorbent material. Because of the presence of the support sheet and of the pad of absorbent material, the known containers for food products of the aforesaid type have a relatively high number of components, require a relatively long manufacturing cycle and are therefore relatively complex and expensive.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to provide a container for food products that is free from the aforesaid drawbacks and that is simple and inexpensive to implement. According to the present invention, it is provided a container for food products as claimed in the appended claims .
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings showing a non-limiting embodiment, wherein:
Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the container of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of a detail of Figure 1 ;
Figure 3 is a sectional side view of the detail of Figure
2;
Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of a variant of the container of Figure 1 ;
Figure 5 is a plan view of a detail of Figure 4; and
Figure 6 is a sectional side view of the detail of Figure 5.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
With reference to Figures 1, 2 and 3, 1 indicates in its entirety a container for food products (not shown) .
The container 1 comprises a tray 2, which is made of plastic material and is cup-shaped (in this case, a substantially rectangular cup shape) .
The tray 2 is delimited by a bottom wall 3 and has a side wall 4, which protrudes from the bottom wall 3 and is ring- shaped closed around the bottom wall 3.
The container 1 further comprises a support sheet 5, which is inserted in the tray 2, is made of plastic material (in this case a heat-sealable plastic material) and is connected to the bottom wall 3 e.g. by welding or gluing. The tray 2 and the sheet 5 can be made of the same plastic material to allow an undifferentiated recycling of the unused containers 1, or can be made of different plastic materials to allow a differentiated recycling of the trays 2 and of the sheets 5.
The sheet 5 comprises a lower layer 6 delimited by a shaped
lower face 7 facing the bottom wall 3 and an upper layer 8 delimited by a shaped upper face 9, which is opposite to the face 7 and defines a support surface for at least one food product (not shown) .
Each layer 6, 8 is further delimited by a coupling face 10, facing the other layer 6, 8 and allowing the coupling (in this case by welding) of the two layers 6, 8.
Each layer 6, 8 has an annular cavity 11, which opens outwards at the relative face 10 and is ring-shaped closed along a peripheral edge of the layer 6, 8.
Moreover, each layer 6, 8 has a plurality of shaped cavities 12, which open outwards at the relative face 10, and are formed in the cavity 11.
The layer 6 has no openings, while the layer 8 has, at each cavity 12, at least one opening 13 formed through the layer 8.
Once connected the two layers 6, 8, each cavity 12 of the layer 6 defines, together with a corresponding cavity 12 of the layer 8, a respective collecting chamber 14 open outwards through respective openings 13, while the two cavities 11 define a sealed air chamber 15, ring-shaped closed around the chambers 14.
In use, the chambers 14 allow collecting in them the juices and/or liquids present in the food product (not shown) packed in the container 1. Since the layer 6 has no
openings, the juices and/or liquids present in the food product (not shown) enter the chambers 14 through the openings 13 and are collected in the sheet 5.
The chamber 15 allows supporting the food product (not shown) and avoiding the crushing of the chambers 14 and defining a containment barrier to prevent the juices and/or liquids present in the food product (not shown) from dripping out of the sheet 5, thus compromising the cleanliness of the container 1.
The embodiment shown in Figures 4 to 6 differs from the one shown in the preceding figure only because a part of the cavities 12 (hereinafter indicated with 12a) of the layer 8 have no openings 13 and define, together with the corresponding cavities 12 of the layer 6, relative sealed air chambers 16 and only the remaining cavities 12 (hereinafter indicated with 12b) of the layer 8 have openings 13 and define, together with the corresponding cavities 12 of the layer 6, relative collecting chambers 14.
Obviously, according to some variants not shown:
the arrangement of the collecting chambers 14 and of the air chambers 16 in the air chamber 15 varies, for example, depending on the configuration of the food product (not shown) packed in the container 1; and
the air chamber 15 is suppressed.
Therefore, the support sheet 5 allows collecting the juices and/or liquids present in the food product (not shown) packed in the container 1 without compromising the cleanliness of the tray 2.
Once used the container 1, the support sheet 5 containing the juices and/or liquids of the food product (not shown) is removed and separated from the clean tray 2, thus allowing a correct differentiated recycling of the components of the container 1.
