[0008] FIG. 4 illustrates a method for securing a multiple accessory connector system to a headgear, according to another example implementation of the present subject matter. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0009] Headgears are used in various endeavors, such as sports, police and military applications. Typically, military and police personnel carry variety of accessories, such as Night Vision Devices (NVD), lamps, face visors, oxygen masks, and cameras, during training. Such accessories provide additional capability to the headgear and/or additional protection to a wearer of the headgear. Nowadays, these accessories are attached to the headgears to allow ease in movement of the police or military personnel by keeping their hands free to hold other equipment.
[0010] Presently, to attach the accessories to the headgear, holes are drilled in the headgear to fix an attachment system on which accessories may be mounted. However, drilling of holes in the headgear compromise ballistic strength or protection capability of the headgear and the headgear may not serve its intended purpose. In addition, the wearer may have to carry additional tools for attaching and detaching the attachment system to the headgear. In addition, such attachment system may involve external assistance. Besides, such mounting of the attachment system may be cumbersome and time consuming for the wearer. In an alternate approach, the accessories may be attached to the headgear by means of an adhesive tape. The adhesive tape; however, may not support the accessories for longer duration of time. Moreover, in case of heavy accessories, the adhesive tape cannot be relied upon as the adhesive tape may be unable to hold the weight of the heavy accessories.
[0011] Since geometry of each headgear is different for different size, the attachment systems should be as per a specific headgear geometry. Conventional mounting facilities are specific to the size of the headgear and do not fit on different sized headgears.
[0012] Approaches for mounting accessories on a headgear, especially a headgear employed by police and military personnel, are described herein. The present subject matter includes a multiple accessory connector system (hereinafter referred to as a connector system) for facilitating mounting of different accessories on the headgear. The connector system provides a plurality of frames for facilitating attachment of multiple accessories to the headgear. The plurality of frames includes multiple slots that facilitate in adjusting the connector system as per the shape and size of the headgear. Further, the plurality of frames is detachably connected to each other.
[0013] In an implementation, the connector system includes a first slotted frame adapted to be mounted on the outer shell of the headgear. In an example, when the headgear fitted with the first slotted frame is worn by a wearer, the first slotted frame is positioned towards a ventral side of the wearer. Further, the first slotted frame may include a plurality of slots to facilitate adjustment of the connector system across a periphery of the outer shell of the headgear. For example, based on the size of the headgear, the connector system may be adjusted across the outer shell of the headgear. To attach accessories, a front bracket is disposed on the first slotted frame. The front bracket is configured to receive a first holder, such as a removable hook, to attach a plurality of accessories thereto. In an example, the first holder facilitates in mounting vision enhancing accessories, such as Night Vision Devices (NVD), visors, and lights to the headgear.
[0014] The connector system further includes a second slotted frame having a left arm, a right arm, and a serrated channel connecting the left arm with the right arm. The serrated channel is disposed in a manner so as to allow adjustment of the connector system. For example, at one end, the serrated channel is engaged by a latch which is disposed on either the left arm or the right arm. And at another end, the serrated channel is fixed at appropriate slots of the second slotted frame, to adjust the connector system according to the size of the headgear. [0015] In an implementation, the second slotted frame is connected to the first slotted frame by a pair of lateral frames, such that the second slotted frame is mounted diametrically opposite to the first slotted frame on the outer shell of the headgear. The pair of lateral frames is connected to appropriate slots of the first slotted frame and the second slotted frame to provide a tightly fit connector system. When connected together, the first slotted frame, the second slotted frame, and the pair of lateral frames circumscribe an outer shell of the headgear. Accordingly, the connector system may be assembled without using external tools. This offers ease in handling (assembling or disassembling) of the connector system. In an example, each of the lateral frames is adapted to receive a second holder for holding one or more accessories, such as an oxygen mask and a communication device. [0016] Accordingly, the first slotted frame and the second slotted frame of the connector system facilitates in tightly fitting the connector system on the headgear. In addition, each of the first slotted frame, the second slotted frame and the pair of lateral frames facilitates in mounting multiple accessories on the headgear without drilling any holes in the headgear. Therefore, the connector system maintains the rigidity and the ballistic strength of the headgear. Further, as the plurality of frames of the connector system is detachably secured to each other, assembling and disassembling of the connector system can be performed quickly and without additional tools or expertise. In addition, the first slotted frame and the second slotted frame facilitate in adjusting the connector system based on the size of the headgear. As a result, the connector system of the present subject matter can be secured onto headgears of different sizes.
[0017] The present subject matter is further described with reference to the accompanying figures. While assembling, one end of the serrated channel 1 14 is connected to the latch 1 16 and the other end of the serrated channel 1 14 is connected to the opposite arm of the second slotted frame 1 10. Though the present subject matter describes that the serrated channel 1 14 is connected through the latch 1 16, it will be understood that the any other fastener may be employed instead of the latch 1 16 for connecting the serrated channel 1 14.
[0029] Further, the latch 1 16 may be used for locking and unlocking the serrated channel 1 14 with the second slotted frame 1 10. Accordingly, the serrated channel 1 14 facilitates in adjusting the connector system 102 according to a size of the headgear 150. Thereby, the serrated channel 1 14 enables the connector system 102 to be used with any size of headgear 150. In an example implementation, the serrated channel 1 14 is made of a mix of polypropylene and nylon materials.
[0030] In an implementation, the second slotted frame 1 10 is connected to the first slotted frame 104 such that the second slotted frame 1 10 is positioned diametrically opposite to the first slotted frame 104. In an example, the first slotted frame 104 is connected to the second slotted frame 1 10 by the pair of lateral frames 1 18. In an example, the pair of lateral frames 1 18 is detachably or fixedly connected to the first slotted frame 104 and the second slotted frame 1 10. As may be seen in FIG. 2A, the pair of lateral frames 1 18 connect with the first slotted frame 104 and the second slotted frame 1 10 by a fastening mechanism 206, such as a spring loaded stud. The fastening mechanism 206 offers ease in adjusting the connector system 102 across the outer shell 152. In addition, the fastening mechanism 206 facilitates in forming an integrated connector system 102. [0031] The fastening mechanism 206, though described as a spring loaded stud, may include any other fastener that provides ease in adjustment of the connector system 102. Further, each of the lateral frames 1 18 may be adapted to receive a second holder 208. In an example, the second holder 208 is a hook that facilitates in attaching accessories, such as oxygen mask, to the headgear 150. The pair of lateral frames 1 18 may be made of a nylon or similar material.
[0032] In order to assemble the connector system 102, the front bracket 106 is slipped on to the first slotted frame 104.
