Description
SYSTEM AND METHOD OF WIRELESS MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION AND MOBILE
PHONE NUMBER VERIFICATION
FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention generally relates to system and method for registering new members. In particular, the invention relates to system and method for registering new members wirelessly with provided identity document and validate mobile phone number using mobile device, smartcard reader, magnetic stripe reader. Optical Character Reading (OCR) technology, Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) or Short Message Service (SMS).
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The gaming industry in Asia has boomed over the last decade especially Macau after opened its doors to foreign gaming operators. In 2015, Macau recorded a total of 31 million visitors as stated in Tourism Statistic report published by Macau Tourist Government Office; of the 31 million, majority is from Mainland China about 67% (21 million) and Hong Kong about 21% (6.5 million) thus is a huge tourist or foreigner market. And the 21 million visitors from Mainland China only equates to 1.55% of China's population of 1.357 billion estimated for year 2015.
The biggest assets for any gaming operators are their customers' as known as players - thus its top priority to grow their membership base by consistently registering new members for the purpose rating and more importantly direct marketing.
To lure visitors into registering, operators would often offer free meal to credit play and accommodation for new registration; and the registration process is usually performed
on site where the potential new member would be given a Registration Form to be filled and sign if Terms & Conditions (T&C) outlined is accepted.
The completed Registration Form along with a proof of Identity Document (ID) such as passport or National ID is then handed over to the Membership or Customer Service counter for further processing and if a physical ID scanner is available and compatible to read the ID provided, the personnel will proceed to scan the ID to retrieve the required details (e.g. Name, Gender, Nationality and Birthdate) for registration, followed by manual input of contact number and email address as per Registration Form. Next, a photo of the member is required before submitting the registration request and a unique membership number will be generated by the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and assigned to the new member.
After the above process, the collected manual Registration Forms are scanned and stored in digital copy for future reference.
With such a lengthy process and stationary, it will somewhat deter visitors from registering especially when there is queue and peak season; also possibility of loss of revenue while potential members wait, and wastage from disposal of completed Registration Forms.
Also the challenge to validate if the mobile phone number provided during registration is genuine and not duplicate in the system as part of "know-your-customer" (KYC) objective.
OCR technology is commonly used to digitally recognise and capture information from almost all types of documents into editable and searchable data; and it's common for
international passport to have two lines MRZ at the bottom with each line having up to 44 characters containing essential information of the owner. And SMS is a method of short messaging between compatible devices.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, the main object of the present invention is to provide an efficient system and method of registering member wirelessly and verify mobile phone number.
