Description
A Case
Introduction
This invention relates to a case and more particularly to a travel case such as a vanity case for carrying beauty products or cosmetics, a travel case for baby items or a handbag.
Background of the Invention
Travel cases or bags such as vanity cases for carrying beauty products, cosmetics and the like (hereinafter referred to collectively as beauty products) or travel bags for baby items are well known in the art. For example, vanity cases are widely used, principally by women, to carry beauty products when travelling. However, as discussed further below, a number of disadvantages exist with such travel cases. Accordingly, in the following description, reference is principally made to vanity cases and the invention is exemplified as such. However, as will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, the invention finds application in all travel cases or bags including vanity cases, bags for beauty or baby items and handbags generally.
Therefore, the invention should not be construed as being limited to vanity cases and the term "travel case" is intended to include all the aforementioned travel case and bag types.
Due to the wide range of shapes and sizes of beauty products ranging from bottles to packets to complex containers, known vanity cases must in general be provided
with a broad range of fixings in the form of, inter alia, straps, pockets and elasticated grips to hold the myriad beauty product types in place in the vanity case. As a result of the need for such a range of fixings, the limited storage space within known vanity cases is not optimised with the result that preferred beauty products must sometimes be omitted when travelling. Moreover, the fixings used to secure beauty products in place frequently prevent easy access to the beauty products when travelling while unsecured beauty products within the vanity case can move about in the travel case frequently causing spillages and damage to other beauty products within the vanity case.
More recently, security and size restrictions on baggage has resulted in limits being placed on the size and type of hand luggage allowed on board aircraft while the type and contents of the hand luggage, particularly in relation to fluids, has been further restricted. In order to enforce these restrictions, the contents of hand luggage should be available for inspection inspected by security personnel. In particular, liquid contents must be removed and placed separately for inspection by security personnel. However, due to the complex nature of the fixings used, known vanity cases can be difficult and time-consuming to examine for security personnel resulting in delays at security checkpoints.
Summary of the Invention
According to the invention there is provided a travel case for carrying items comprising:
an outer casing and
a storage space within the outer casing wherein the storage space comprises at least one adhesive panel for gripping the items.
Preferably, the adhesive panel comprises a microsuction panel. More preferably, the adhesive panel comprises a microsuction tape.
In a preferred embodiment, the travel case comprises a vanity case and the items comprise beauty products. Alternatively, the travel case comprises a baby item travel case. Alternatively, the travel case comprises a handbag.
Suitably, the outer casing comprises a base shell and a lid shell hingedly attached to the base shell at a hinge. Optionally, the hinge comprises a fold in the outer casing.
Preferably, the travel case comprises a removable inner casing.
Advantageously, the storage space is sub-divided into compartments.
Preferably, each compartment comprises a microsuction panel. More preferably, the microsuction panel comprises an acrylic foam. Most preferably, the microsuction panel comprises a Regabond-S (Trade Mark) material.
The invention also extends to the use of an adhesive material in a travel case for reversibly securing items in the travel case.
Preferably, the adhesive material comprises an adhesive panel.
More preferably, the adhesive panel comprises a microsuction panel. Most preferably, the microsuction panel comprises a microsuction tape. Suitably, the microsuction tape comprises an acrylic foam.
Suitably, the travel case comprises a vanity case and the items comprise beauty products. Alternatively, the travel case comprises a baby item travel case.
Alternatively, the travel case comprises a handbag.
The travel case is adapted to safely and securely store and hold in place, on an adhesive material, its contents such as beauty or baby products (or indeed other products to be transported) of all shapes and sizes in a compact and space-saving manner without the need for a range of complex internal fixings such as straps and the like.
The adhesive material in the form of microsuction panels can reversibly and repeatedly grip and hold (beauty) products of all shapes, sizes and materials e.g. round, oval, square and ranging in size from about 6mm to 50mm and manufactured from, for example, PET, HDPE, ABS and glass. Unlike conventional adhesive materials, the adhesive capacity of the microsuction panels does not become exhausted over time as the microsuction panels rely on a physical adhesion mechanism as opposed to chemical adhesion.
The travel case in the form of a vanity case allows for easy access to and quick examination of the contents due to the safe and secure manner in which the contents are stored while the removable nature of the inner casing allows for ease of
inspection of fluids contained within the bottles. Accordingly, a user can easily and safely transport fluids and the like whilst the contents of vanity cases of the invention can be easily and quickly examined by security personnel when required.
As products contained within the travel case are securely held in place, the products do not become loose and collide so that no damage occurs to the contents during travel.
Due to the hinged nature of the base shell and the lid shell, the vanity case can also be opened out flat in the open accessible position for ease of access to the beauty products.

Detailed Description of the Invention
As shown in the drawings, a travel case in the form of a vanity case in accordance with the invention is generally indicated by the reference numeral 1 and is made up of an outer casing 2 defined by a deeper base shell 3 and a shallower lid shell 4 hingedly attached to the base shell 3 at a hinge 5 (which can be formed from a fold in the outer casing 2) and an internal storage space 6 within the outer casing 2 for storing beauty products 7. The storage space 6 is sub-divided into internal compartments 8 provided with an adhesive material in the form of microsuction panels 9 for reversibly and removably holding and securing beauty products 7 in place within the compartments 8 either individually or within an inner container 10 without the need for fixings such as straps. The base shell 3 and the lid shell 4 are reversibly attached at a zip 11 so that the base shell 3 and the lid shell 4 are movable between a closed transportable position in which the vanity case 1 can be carried and an open accessible position in which the beauty products 7 in the vanity case 1 can be accessed or examined.
The base shell 3 is made up of a base shell major wall 12 and a base shell bottom wall 13, a base shell first sidewall 14, a base shell second sidewall 15 and an outwardly curved base shell top wall 16 upstanding from the base shell major wall 12. The base shell bottom wall 13, base shell first sidewall 14, base shell second sidewall 15 and base shell top wall 16 together define a base shell edge 17 on which the zip 1 is mounted while the base shell walls 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 also define in combination a base shell storage chamber 18 for the beauty products 7.
The base shell storage chamber 18 is sub-divided by a dividing wall 19 extending between the base shell bottom wall 13 and the base shell top wall 16 to define a relatively large fluid container storage compartment 20 and a relatively smaller beauty product storage compartment 21 both of which are fitted with microsuction panels 22 for, firstly, reversibly gripping relatively large beauty product containers 23 in place within the beauty product storage compartment 21 and, secondly, reversibly gripping a transparent inner casing 24 for a plurality of bottles 25 within the fluid container storage compartment 20.
The shallower lid shell 4 is made up of a lid shell major wall 26 and a lid shell bottom wall 27, a lid shell first sidewall 28, a lid shell second sidewall 29 and an outwardly curved lid shell top wall 30 upstanding from the lid shell major wall 26. The lid shell bottom wall 27, lid shell first sidewall 28, lid shell second sidewall 29 and lid shell top wall 30 together define a lid shell edge 31 on which the zip 11 is also mounted for attachment to the base shell 3 while the lid shell walls 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 also define in combination a relatively shallow lid shell storage chamber 32 for beauty products
The lid shell storage chamber 32 is also fitted with a lid shell microsuction panel 33 for reversibly holding relatively shallow beauty product containers 34 in place within the lid shell storage chamber 32.
